< الأمثال 14 >

حِكْمَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ تَبْنِي بَيْتَهَا، وَحَمَاقَتُهَا تَهْدِمُهُ بِيَدَيْهَا. ١ 1
Every wise woman hath builded her house, And the foolish with her hands breaketh it down.
السَّالِكُ بِاسْتِقَامَتِهِ يَتَّقِي الرَّبَّ، وَذُو الطُّرُقِ الْمُعْوَجَّةِ يَسْتَخِفُّ بِهِ. ٢ 2
Whoso is walking in his uprightness is fearing Jehovah, And the perverted [in] his ways is despising Him.
فِي أَقْوَالِ فَمِ الْجَاهِلِ سَفَاهَةٌ تُخْزِي كِبْرِيَاءَهُ، أَمَّا شِفَاهُ الْحُكَمَاءِ فَتَصُونُهُمْ. ٣ 3
In the mouth of a fool [is] a rod of pride, And the lips of the wise preserve them.
الْحَظِيرَةُ الْخَاوِيَةُ مِنَ الْبَقَرِ مَعْلِفُهَا فَارِغٌ، وَوَفْرَةُ الْغِلالِ بِقُوَّةِ الثَّوْرِ. ٤ 4
Without oxen a stall [is] clean, And great [is] the increase by the power of the ox.
الشَّاهِدُ الأَمِينُ لَا يَكْذِبُ، وَالشَّاهِدُ الزُّورُ يَنْفُثُ كَذِباً. ٥ 5
A faithful witness lieth not, And a false witness breatheth out lies.
عَبَثاً يَلْتَمِسُ الأَحْمَقُ حِكْمَةً، أَمَّا الْعِلْمُ فَمُتَيَسِّرٌ لِلْفَطِنِ. ٦ 6
A scorner hath sought wisdom, and it is not, And knowledge to the intelligent [is] easy.
انْصَرِفْ مِنْ حَضْرَةِ الْجَاهِلِ إِذْ لَا عِلْمَ فِي أَقْوَالِهِ. ٧ 7
Go from before a foolish man, Or thou hast not known the lips of knowledge.
حِكْمَةُ الْعَاقِلِ فِي تَبَيُّنِ حُسْنِ مَسْلَكِهِ، وَغَبَاوَةُ الْجُهَّالِ فِي ارْتِكَابِ خِدَعِهِمْ. ٨ 8
The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way, And the folly of fools [is] deceit.
كُلُّ جَاهِلٍ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِالإِثْمِ، أَمَّا بَيْنَ الْمُسْتَقِيمِينَ فَيَشِيعُ رِضَى اللهِ. ٩ 9
Fools mock at a guilt-offering, And among the upright — a pleasing thing.
الْقَلْبُ وَحْدَهُ يَعْرِفُ عُمْقَ مَرَارَةِ نَفْسِهِ، وَلا يُقَاسِمُهُ فَرَحَهُ غَرِيبٌ. ١٠ 10
The heart knoweth its own bitterness, And with its joy a stranger doth not intermeddle.
بَيْتُ الأَشْرَارِ يَنْهَارُ، وَخِبَاءُ الْمُسْتَقِيمِينَ يَزْدَهِرُ. ١١ 11
The house of the wicked is destroyed, And the tent of the upright flourisheth.
رُبَّ طَرِيقٍ تَبْدُو لِلإِنْسَانِ قَوِيمَةً، وَلَكِنَّ عَاقِبَتَهَا هُوَّةُ الْمَوْتِ. ١٢ 12
There is a way — right before a man, And its latter end [are] ways of death.
فِي الضَّحِكِ أَيْضاً تَطْغَى الْكَآبَةُ عَلَى الْقَلْبِ، وَعَاقِبَةُ الْفَرَحِ الْغَمُّ. ١٣ 13
Even in laughter is the heart pained, And the latter end of joy [is] affliction.
ذُو الْقَلْبِ الْمُرْتَدِّ يُجَازَى بِمُقْتَضَى طُرُقِهِ، وَالصَّالِحُ يُثَابُ. ١٤ 14
From his ways is the backslider in heart filled, And a good man — from his fruits.
الْغَبِيُّ يُصَدِّقُ كُلَّ كَلِمَةٍ تُقَالُ لَهُ، وَالْعَاقِلُ يَتَنَبَّهُ إِلَى مَوْقِعِ خَطْوَاتِهِ. ١٥ 15
The simple giveth credence to everything, And the prudent attendeth to his step.
الْحَكِيمُ يَخْشَى الشَّرَّ وَيَتَفَادَاهُ، وَالْجَاهِلُ يَتَصَلَّفُ وَيَدَّعِي الثِّقَةَ بِالنَّفْسِ. ١٦ 16
The wise is fearing and turning from evil, And a fool is transgressing and is confident.
ذُو الطَّبْعِ الْحَادِّ يَتَصَرَّفُ بِحُمْقٍ، وَذُو الْمَكَائِدِ مَمْقُوتٌ. ١٧ 17
Whoso is short of temper doth folly, And a man of wicked devices is hated.
يَرِثُ الأَغْبِيَاءُ الْحَمَاقَةَ، وَيُتَوَّجُ الْعُقَلاءُ بِالْعِلْمِ. ١٨ 18
The simple have inherited folly, And the prudent are crowned [with] knowledge.
يَنْحَنِي الأَشْرَارُ فِي مَحْضَرِ الأَخْيَارِ، وَالأَثَمَةُ لَدَى الصِّدِّيقِ. ١٩ 19
The evil have bowed down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
الْفَقِيرُ مَكْرُوهٌ حَتَّى عِنْدَ جَارِهِ، أَمَّا مُحِبُّو الْغَنِيِّ فَكَثِيرُونَ. ٢٠ 20
Even of his neighbour is the poor hated, And those loving the rich [are] many.
مَنْ يَحْتَقِرُ صَاحِبَهُ يَأْثَمُ، وَطُوبَى لِمَنْ يَرْحَمُ الْبَائِسِينَ. ٢١ 21
Whoso is despising his neighbour sinneth, Whoso is favouring the humble, O his happiness.
أَلا يَضِلُّ مُخْتَرِعُو الشَّرِّ؟ أَمَّا الْعَامِلُونَ خَيْراً فَيُلاقُونَ رَحْمَةً وَصِدْقاً. ٢٢ 22
Do not they err who are devising evil? And kindness and truth [are] to those devising good,
فِي كُلِّ جَهْدٍ مَبْذُولٍ رِبْحٌ، أَمَّا مُجَرَّدُ الْكَلامِ فَيُؤَدِّي إِلَى الْفَقْرِ. ٢٣ 23
In all labour there is advantage, And a thing of the lips [is] only to want.
تَاجُ الْحُكَمَاءِ غِنَى حِكْمَتِهِمْ، وَالْحَمَاقَةُ إِكْلِيلُ الْجُهَّالِ. ٢٤ 24
The crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools [is] folly.
شَاهِدُ الْحَقِّ يُنَجِّي النُّفُوسَ، وَالنَّاطِقُ بِالزُّورِ يَنْفُثُ كَذِباً. ٢٥ 25
A true witness is delivering souls, And a deceitful one breatheth out lies.
فِي تَقْوَى الرَّبِّ ثِقَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ؛ فِيهَا يَجِدُ أَبْنَاؤُهُ مَلاذاً. ٢٦ 26
In the fear of Jehovah [is] strong confidence, And to His sons there is a refuge.
تَقْوَى الرَّبِّ يَنْبُوعُ حَيَاةٍ لِتَفَادِي أَشْرَاكِ الْمَوْتِ. ٢٧ 27
The fear of Jehovah [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
فِي كَثْرَةِ الشَّعْبِ فَخْرٌ لِلْمَلِكِ، وَفِي فُقْدَانِ الرَّعِيَّةِ دَمَارٌ لِمَقَامِ الأَمِيرِ. ٢٨ 28
In the multitude of a people [is] the honour of a king, And in lack of people the ruin of a prince.
الْبَطِيءُ الْغَضَبِ ذُو فَهْمٍ كَثِيرٍ، أَمَّا السَّرِيعُ إِلَى السَّخْطِ فَيُبْدِي حَمَاقَةً. ٢٩ 29
Whoso is slow to anger [is] of great understanding, And whoso is short in temper is exalting folly.
الْقَلْبُ الْمُطْمَئِنُّ يَهَبُ أَعْضَاءَ الْجَسَدِ حَيَاةً، وَالْحَسَدُ يَنْخُرُ فِي الْعِظَامِ. ٣٠ 30
A healed heart [is] life to the flesh, And rottenness to the bones [is] envy.
مَنْ يَجُورُ عَلَى الْفَقِيرِ يُهِينُ صَانِعَهُ، وَمَنْ يَرْحَمُ الْبَائِسَ يُكْرِمُ خَالِقَهُ، ٣١ 31
An oppressor of the poor reproacheth his Maker, And whoso is honouring Him Is favouring the needy.
يُعَاقَبُ الشِّرِّيرُ بِمُقْتَضَى سُوءِ تَصَرُّفَاتِهِ، أَمَّا الصِّدِّيقُ فَلَهُ مُعْتَصَمٌ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ. ٣٢ 32
In his wickedness is the wicked driven away, And trustful in his death [is] the righteous.
فِي قَلْبِ الْفَطِنِ تَسْتَقِرُّ الْحِكْمَةُ، وَيَخْلُو مِنْهَا قَلْبُ الْجُهَّالِ. ٣٣ 33
In the heart of the intelligent wisdom doth rest. And in the midst of fools it is known.
الْبِرُّ يَسْمُو بِالأُمَّةِ، وَالْخَطِيئَةُ عَارٌ لِكُلِّ شَعْبٍ. ٣٤ 34
Righteousness exalteth a nation, And the goodliness of peoples [is] a sin-offering.
الْعَبْدُ الْعَاقِلُ يَحْظَى بِرِضَى الْمَلِكِ، وَالْعَبْدُ الْمُخْزِي يَسْتَجْلِبُ سُخْطَهُ. ٣٥ 35
The favour of a king [is] to a wise servant, And an object of his wrath is one causing shame!
