1 To nathuem ah Herod siangpahrang mah Jesu tamthang to thaih,
About that time Herod the Tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2 anih mah a tamnanawk khaeah, Anih loe duekhaih thung hoiah kangthawk let, tuinuemhaih paekkung Johan boeh ni; to pongah ni dawnrai hmuen sakthaihaih anih nuiah oh, tiah thuih.
and he said to his courtiers, "This is John the Baptist: he has come back to life--and that is why these miraculous Powers are working in him."
3 Herod loe, Amnawk Philip ih zu Herodias pongah, Johan to naeh moe, taoengh pacoengah, thongim thungah pakhrak.
For Herod had arrested John, and had put him in chains, and imprisoned him, for the sake of Herodias his brother Philip's wife,
4 Johan mah anih khaeah, Nam nawk ih zu na lomh pae haih loe kasoem hmuen na ai ni, tiah a naa.
because John had persistently said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."
5 Anih to hum han koeh, toe kami boih mah Johan loe tahmaa ni, tiah poek o pongah, kaminawk to a zit.
And he would have liked to put him to death, but was afraid of the people, because they regarded John as a Prophet.
6 Toe Herod tapenhaih ni phak naah loe, Herodias ih canu mah nihcae hma ah hnawh pae moe, Herod to poek nawmsak.
But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before all the company, and so pleased Herod
7 To pongah to nongpata mah hnik sarui hmuen to paek hanah lokkamhaih to a sak.
that with an oath he promised to give her whatever she asked.
8 To naah nongpata ta mah, amno mah pacuek ih lok baktih toengah, Tuinuemhaih paekkung Johan ih lu to sabae pongah na paek ah, tiah a naa.
So she, instigated by her mother, said, "Give me here on a dish the head of John the Baptist."
9 To naah siangpahrang loe palungset: toe buh nawnto caa angvinnawk hma ah lokkamhaih a sak boeh pongah, nongpata ta mah hnik ih baktih toengah paek hanah a thuih.
The king was deeply vexed, yet because of his repeated oath and of the guests at his table he ordered it to be given her,
10 Anih mah kami to patoeh moe, thongim thungah Johan ih lu to takroeksak.
and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11 Anih ih lu to sabae hoiah sin pae o moe, nongpata ta khaeah paek o: anih mah amno khaeah paek.
The head was brought on a dish and given to the young girl, and she took it to her mother.
12 Johan hnukbang kaminawk loe caeh o moe, qok to lak o, aphum o pacoengah, caeh o moe, Jesu khaeah thuih pae o.
Then John's disciples went and removed the body and buried it, and came and informed Jesus.
13 To lok to Jesu mah thaih naah, to ahmuen hoiah kamding rue ahmuen ah palong hoiah a caeh ving: toe kaminawk mah thaih o naah, vangpuinawk thung hoiah khok hoiah a caeh o moe, anih hnukah bang o.
Upon receiving these tidings, Jesus went away by boat to an uninhabited and secluded district; but the people heard of it and followed Him in crowds from the towns by land.
14 Jesu tuicing bangah phak naah loe pop parai kaminawk to a hnuk, nihcae to tahmen pongah nganna kaminawk to ngan a tuisak.
So Jesus went out and saw an immense multitude, and felt compassion for them, and cured those of them who were out of health.
15 Duembangah loe, a hnukbang kaminawk anih khaeah angzoh o moe, Hae ahmuen loe praezaek ah oh, ni doeh duem boeh; to pongah hae kaminawk hae caehsak lai ah, vangpuinawk thungah a caeh o moe, caaknaek a qan o han oh boeh, tiah a naa o.
But when evening was come, the disciples came to Him and said, "This is an uninhabited place, and the best of the day is now gone; send the people away to go into the villages and buy something to eat."
16 Toe Jesu mah nihcae khaeah, Nihcae caehsak han angai ai; nihcae han caaknaek to paek o khae, tiah a naa.
"They need not go away," replied Jesus; "you yourselves must give them something to eat."
17 Nihcae mah anih khaeah, Takaw kae pangato hoi tanga hnetto khue ni ka tawnh o, tiah a naa o.
"We have nothing here," they said, "but five loaves and a couple of fish."
18 Anih mah, Hae ah na sin oh, tiah a naa.
"Bring them here to me," He said,
19 Anih mah kaminawk to phroh nuiah anghnut hanah lokpaek, takaw kae pangato hoi tanga hnetto a lak, van bangah a doeng tahang moe, anghoehaih lawkthuih pacoengah, a aeh, takaw to a hnukbang kaminawk khaeah a paek, a hnukbang kaminawk mah paroeai kaminawk khaeah paek o.
and He told all the people to sit down on the grass. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and after looking up to heaven and blessing them, He broke up the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples distributed them to the people.
20 Nihcae boih mah caak o naah, zok amhah o: caaknoi to nihcae mah phromh o naah, benthang hatlai hnetto koi.
So all ate, and were fully satisfied. The broken portions that remained over they gathered up, filling twelve baskets.
21 To ih buh caa kaminawk loe nongpata hoi nawkta thui ai, nongpa khue ah sang pangato oh o.
Those who had eaten were about 5,000 adult men, without reckoning women and children.
22 Anih mah pop parai kaminawk to caehsak naah, a hnukbang kaminawk to palong thungah akunsak moe, tuipui yaeh ah caeh o hmaloe ah, tiah a naa.
Immediately afterwards He made the disciples go on board the boat and cross to the opposite shore, leaving Him to dismiss the people.
23 Paroeai kaminawk caehsak pacoengah, lawkthuih hanah angmah bueng mae nuiah a caeh: duembang phak naah loe, angmah bueng to ahmuen ah oh.
When He had done this, He climbed the hill to pray in solitude. Night came on, and he was there alone.
24 Toe palong loe tuipui um li ah oh, takhi song pongah, tuiphu mah atoengh tahang.
Meanwhile the boat was far out on the Lake, buffeted and tossed by the waves, the wind being adverse.
25 Qum tue palito phak naah, Jesu loe nihcae khaeah tui nuiah caeh.
But towards daybreak He went to them, walking over the waves.
26 Tuipui nuiah kacaeh Anih to hnukbang kaminawk mah hnuk o naah, zit o, pakhra mue tiah poek o pongah, zit hoiah a hang o.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the waves, they were greatly alarmed. "It is a spirit," they exclaimed, and they cried out with terror.
27 Toe Jesu mah nihcae khaeah, Kamongta ah om oh; Kai ni; zii o hmah, tiah a thuih pae phrat.
But instantly Jesus spoke to them, and said, "There is no danger; it is I; do not be afraid."
28 Piter mah anih khaeah, Angraeng, Nang nahaeloe, tui nuiah nang khaeah kai angzosak ah, tiah a naa.
"Master," answered Peter, "if it is you, bid me come to you upon the water."
29 Anih mah, Angzo khae, tiah a naa. To naah Piter loe palong thung hoi anghum tathuk moe, Jesu khaeah caeh hanah, tui nuiah a caeh.
"Come," said Jesus. Then Peter climbed down from the boat and walked upon the water to go to Him.
30 Toe takhi sae to a hnuk naah, a zit; tui thungah krak naah, Angraeng, na pahlong ah, tiah a hang.
But when he felt the wind he grew frightened, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Master, save me."
31 Jesu mah ban payangh moe, anih to patawnh, Nang, tanghaih tamsi kami, tikhoe palunghaenghaih na tawnh loe? tiah a naa.
Instantly Jesus stretched out His hand and caught hold of him, saying to him, "O little faith, why did you doubt?"
32 Nihnik palong thungah angzoh hoi pacoengah loe takhi to dip.
So they climbed into the boat, and the wind lulled;
33 To pacoengah palong thungah kaom kaminawk to angzoh o moe, Nang loe Sithaw capa tangtang ni, tiah a thuih o pacoengah anih to bok o.
and the men on board fell down before him and said, "You are indeed God's Son."
34 Nihcae loe tuipui to angkat o moe, Gennesaret prae to phak o.
When they had quite crossed over, they put ashore at Gennesaret;
35 To ahmuen ah kaom kaminawk mah anih panoek o naah, a taeng ih vangpuinawk boih ah tamthang to a thuih o, to naah nathaih tawn kaminawk boih anih khaeah caeh o haih.
and the men of the place, recognizing Him, sent word into all the country round. So they brought all the sick to Him,
36 Anih ih kahni tom sui hanah anih khaeah tahmenhaih hnik o: sui kaminawk boih ngantui o.
and they entreated Him that they might but touch the tassel of His outer garment; and all who did so were restored to perfect health.
