1 Tesalonickým 3
1 Protož nemohše se déle zdržeti, za nejlepší se nám vidělo, abychom v Atenách pozůstali my sami.
Wherefore, no longer concealing our anxiety, we were well-pleased to be left in Athens, alone,
2 A poslali jsme Timotea, bratra svého, a služebníka Božího, a pomocníka svého v evangelium Kristovu, aby potvrdil vás, a napomenul k tomu, což náleží k víře vaší,
And sent Timothy—our brother, and God’s minister in the glad-message of the Christ—that he might confirm and console you over your faith,
3 Aby se žádný nepohnul v takových těchto ssouženích. Nebo i sami víte, že jsme k tomu postaveni.
That, no one, might be shrinking back in these tribulations. For ye, yourselves, know, that, hereunto, are we appointed;
4 Ještě zajisté, když jsme u vás byli, předpovídali jsme vám, že budeme ssouženi. Jakož se i stalo, jakž víte.
For, even when we were with you, we told you beforehand—we are destined to suffer tribulation! even as it also came to pass, and ye know.
5 Protož i já, nemoha se déle zdržeti, poslal jsem, abych zvěděl o víře vaší, aťby snad nějak nepokoušel vás ten pokušitel, i byla by daremná práce naše.
For this cause, I also, no longer concealing my anxiety, sent, that I might get to know your faith, lest by any means he that tempteth, should have tempted you, and, in vain, should have been our toil.
6 Nyní pak když k nám přišel Timoteus od vás, a zvěstoval nám novinu veselou o víře a lásce vaší, a že nás připomínáte dobře, žádajíce vždycky nás viděti, jako i my vás,
But, when, just now, Timothy came unto us, from you, and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, —and that ye have good remembrance of us, continually, longing to see, us, —even as, we also, to see you,
7 Protož potěšeni jsme, bratří, z vás ve všelikém ssoužení a nesnadnosti své skrze víru vaši.
For this cause, were we consoled, brethren, over you, in all our necessity and tribulation, through your faith;
8 Nebo aj, živi jsme, jestliže vy stojíte v Pánu.
Because, now, we live, —if only, ye, stand fast in the Lord.
9 A jakým děkováním z vás můžeme se odměniti Bohu za všecku tu radost, kterouž radujeme se pro vás před Bohem svým,
For what thanksgiving can we render back, unto God, concerning you, on occasion of all the joy wherewith we rejoice, for your sakes, before our God?—
10 Dnem i noci přehorlivě modléce se, abychom uzřeli tvář vaši, a doplnili to, čehož by se nedostávalo víře vaší?
Night and day, making very abundant entreaties, that we may see your face, and fit in the things which are lacking in your faith?
11 Sám pak Bůh a Otec náš, a Pán náš Ježíš Kristus spraviž cestu naši k vám.
Now may, our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus, make straight our way unto you:
12 Vás pak ten Pán račiž rozmnožiti a rozhojniti v lásce k sobě vespolek, i ke všechněm, jako i nás k vám,
And, you, may the Lord cause to abound and excel in your love one toward another, and toward all, —even as, we, do toward you:
13 Aby tak utvrzena byla srdce vaše nepoškvrněná v svatosti, před Bohem a Otcem naším, ku příští Pána našeho Jezukrista, se všechněmi svatými jeho.
To the end he may confirms your hearts, faultless in holiness, before our God and Father, in the Presence of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
