Hebrews 4
1 Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
Craignons donc, puisque la promesse «d'entrer dans son repos, » n'est pas retirée, que quelqu'un de vous ne paraisse l'avoir négligée.
2 For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard.
Car cette bonne nouvelle nous a été annoncée aussi bien qu'à eux; mais la parole qu'ils entendirent ne leur servit de rien, parce qu'ils ne se l'approprièrent pas par la foi.
3 For we who have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Pour nous qui avons cru, nous entrons dans «le repos» dont il a parlé, quand il a dit: «De sorte que je fis serment dans ma colère, qu'ils n'entreraient pas dans mon repos; » parole qu'il a prononcée bien que ses oeuvres eussent été achevées dès la création du monde.
4 For he hath said somewhere of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;
En effet, au sujet du septième jour, il s'exprime ainsi quelque part: «Dieu se reposa le septième jour de toutes ses oeuvres, »
5 and in this [place] again, They shall not enter into my rest.
et dans le passage ci-dessus, il dit de nouveau: «Je fais serment qu'ils n'entreront pas dans mon repos.»
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,
Puis donc qu'il est encore donné à quelques-uns d'y entrer, et que les premiers, à qui cette nouvelle a été annoncée, n'y sont pas entrés à cause de leur incrédulité,
7 he again defineth a certain day, To-day, saying in David so long a time afterward (even as hath been said before), To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.
Dieu détermine de nouveau dans David un jour qu'il appelle «aujourd'hui, » en disant si longtemps après, comme on l'a vu plus haut: «Aujourd'hui si vous entendez ma voix, n’endurcissez pas vos coeurs.»
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
Si Josué leur eût donné «le repos, » Dieu ne parlerait pas après cela d'un autre jour.
9 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.
Il reste donc un jour de repos pour le peuple de Dieu;
10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
car celui qui entre dans «le repos de Dieu, » se repose de ses oeuvres, comme Dieu s'est reposé des siennes.
11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.
Empressons-nous donc d'entrer dans ce repos-là, afin qu'aucun ne tombe en donnant le même exemple d'incrédulité.
12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Car la parole de Dieu est vivante, puissante, plus acérée qu'aucune épée à deux tranchants; elle pénètre jusqu’à la suture de l'âme et de l'esprit, jusque dans les jointures et dans les moelles; elle juge les sentiments et les pensées du coeur.
13 And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Nulle créature n'est cachée à Dieu, tout est à nu et à découvert aux yeux de celui à qui nous avons affaire.
14 Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Puis donc que nous avons en Jésus, le Fils de Dieu, un grand souverain sacrificateur qui a pénétré au haut des cieux, demeurons fermes dans la profession de notre foi;
15 For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.
car nous n'avons pas un souverain sacrificateur qui ne puisse pas compatir à nos faiblesses; au contraire, puisqu'il a été tenté comme nous en toutes choses, et n'a point commis de péché.
16 Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help [us] in time of need.
Approchons-nous donc avec assurance du trône de la grâce, afin d'obtenir miséricorde et de trouver grâce en un temps où il est possible encore d'être secouru.
