Chronicles II 32
1 And after these things and this faithful dealing, came Sennacherim king of the Assyrians, and he came to Juda, and encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to take them for himself.
Nach diesen Begebenheiten und diesem treulichen Eifer rückte Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, an. Der rückte in Juda ein, belagerte die festen Städte und gedachte, sie für sich zu erobern.
2 And Ezekias saw that Sennacherim was come, and [that] his face [was set] to fight against Jerusalem.
Als nun Hiskia wahrnahm, daß Sanherib anrückte, mit der Absicht, Jerusalem anzugreifen,
3 And he took counsel with his elders and his mighty [men] to stop the wells of water which were without the city: and they helped him.
da wurde er mit seinen obersten Beamten und seinen Helden schlüssig, die Wasser der Quellen, die sich außerhalb der Stadt befanden, zu verstopfen, und sie unterstützten ihn dabei.
4 And he collected many people, and stopped the wells of water, and the river that flowed through the city, saying, Lest the king of Assyria come, and find much water, and strengthen [himself].
Da versammelten sich eine Menge Leute und verstopften sämtliche Quellen, sowie den Bach, der mitten durchs Land strömte, indem sie sprachen: Warum sollen doch die Könige von Assyrien, wenn sie anrücken, viel Wasser finden?
5 And Ezekias strengthened [himself], and built all the wall that had been pulled down, and the towers, and another wall in front without, and fortified the strong place of the city of David, and prepared arms in abundance.
Alsdann ging er mutig ans Werk, stellte die Mauer überall, wo sie Risse hatte, wieder her, bestieg die Türme und die äußere Mauer draußen, befestigte das Millo in der Stadt Davids und ließ eine Menge Wurfgeschosse und Schilde anfertigen.
6 And he appointed captains of war over the people, and they were gathered to [meet] him to the open place of the gate of the valley, and he encouraged them, saying,
Sodann stellte er Kriegshauptleute an die Spitze des Volks; diese versammelte er zu sich auf den freien Platz am Stadtthor und redete ihnen freundlich zu, indem er sprach:
7 Be strong and courageous, and fear not, neither be dismayed before the King of Assyria, and before all the nation that [is] with him: for [there are] more with us than with him.
Seid mutig und stark! Seid getrost und erschreckt nicht vor dem Könige von Assyrien und vor dem ganzen Haufen, den er bei sich hat! Denn mit uns ist ein größerer, als mit ihm:
8 With him [are] arms of flesh; but with us [is] the Lord our God to save [us], and to fight our battle. And the people were encouraged at the words of Ezekias king of Juda.
Mit ihm ist ein fleischerner Arm; mit uns aber ist Jahwe, unser Gott, daß er uns beistehe und unsere Kriege führe!
9 And afterward Sennacherim king of the Assyrians sent his servants to Jerusalem; and [he went] himself against Lachis, and all his army with him, and sent to Ezekias king of Juda, and to all Juda that [was] in Jerusalem, saying,
Darnach sandte Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, seine Diener nach Jerusalem (er selbst stand mit seiner ganzen Macht vor Lachis) zu Hiskia, dem Könige von Juda, und zu allen Judäern, die sich zu Jerusalem befanden, und ließ ihnen sagen:
10 Thus says Sennacherim king of the Assyrians, On what do you trust, that you will remain in the siege in Jerusalem?
So spricht Sanherib, der König von Assyrien: Worauf verlaßt ihr euch, daß ihr in Jerusalem, in der Belagerungsnot, sitzen bleibt?
11 Does not Ezekias deceive you, to deliver you to death and famine and thirst, saying, The Lord our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Wahrlich, Hiskia verführt euch, um euch vor Hunger und Durst sterben zu lassen, indem er spricht: Jahwe, unser Gott, wird uns aus der Gewalt des Königs von Assyrien erretten!
12 Is not this Ezekias who has taken down his altars and his high places and has spoken to Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem, saying, You shall worship before this altar and burn incense upon it?
Hat nicht derselbe Hiskia seine Höhen und Altäre abgeschafft, indem er Juda und Jerusalem befahl: Vor einem einzigen Altare sollt ihr anbeten und nur auf ihm dürft ihr räuchern?
13 Know you not what I and my fathers have done to all the nations of the countries? Could the gods of the nations of all the earth at all rescue their people out of my hand?
Wißt ihr nicht, was ich und meine Väter allen Völkern der verschiedenen Länder angethan haben? Haben etwa die Götter der Völker in den verschiedenen Ländern ihr Land aus meiner Gewalt zu erretten vermocht?
14 Who is there amongst all the gods of those nations whom my fathers utterly destroyed, [worthy of trust]? Could they deliver their people out of my hand, that your God should deliver you out of my hand?
Wer von allen den Göttern dieser Völker, an denen meine Väter den Bann vollstreckt haben, hätte sein Volk aus meiner Gewalt zu erretten vermocht, daß euch euer Gott aus meiner Gewalt sollte erretten können!
15 Now then, let not Ezekias deceive you, and let him not make you thus confident, and believe him not: for no god of any kingdom or nation is at all able to deliver his people out of my hand, or the hand of my fathers: therefore your God shall not deliver you out of my hand.
So laßt euch nun nicht von Hiskia bethören und auf solche Art verführen! Glaubt ihm nicht! Denn kein Gott von irgend welchem Volk oder Reich vermochte bisher sein Volk aus meiner Gewalt oder aus der Gewalt meiner Väter zu erretten, geschweige daß euch euer Gott aus meiner Gewalt erretten sollte!
16 And his servants continued to speak against the Lord God, and against his servant Ezekias.
Und so redeten seine Diener noch mehr wider Gott, Jahwe, und wider seinen Knecht Hiskia.
17 And he wrote a letter to reproach the Lord God of Israel, and spoke concerning him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the earth have not delivered their people out of my hand, so the God of Ezekias shall by no means deliver his people out of my hand.
Auch einen Brief schrieb er, um Jahwe, den Gott Israels, zu lästern und wider ihn zu reden, indem er behauptete: Wie die Götter der Völker in den verschiedenen Ländern ihr Volk nicht aus meiner Gewalt errettet haben, ebensowenig wird auch der Gott Hiskias sein Volk aus meiner Gewalt erretten.
18 And he cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language to the people of Jerusalem on the wall, [calling them] to assist them, and pull down [the walls], that they might take the city.
Und sie riefen die Bewohner Jerusalems, die sich auf der Mauer befanden, mit lauter Stimme auf judäisch an, um sie in Furcht und Schrecken zu versetzen, damit sie die Stadt in ihre Gewalt bekämen,
19 And he spoke against the God of Jerusalem, even as against the gods of the nations of the earth, the works of the hands of men.
und redeten vom Gotte Jerusalems wie von den Göttern der Heidenvölker, die nur ein Werk von Menschenhänden sind.
20 And king Ezekias and Esaias the prophet the son of Amos prayed concerning these things, and they cried to heaven.
Als nun der König Hiskia und der Prophet Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, um dieser Sache willen beteten und zum Himmel schrieen,
21 And the Lord sent an angel, and he destroyed every mighty man and warrior, and leader and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria: and he returned with shame of face to his own land and came into the house of his god: and [some] of them that came out of his bowels killed him with the sword.
da sandte Jahwe einen Engel; der vertilgte sämtliche Krieger, Heerführer und Oberste im Lager des Königs von Assyrien, so daß er mit Schmach bedeckt in sein Land zurückkehrte. Als er sich nun in den Tempel seines Gottes begab, fällten ihn dort welche, die von seinem eigenen Leibe gekommen waren, durchs Schwert.
22 So the Lord delivered Ezekias and the dwellers in Jerusalem out of the hand of Sennacherim King of Assyria, and out of the hand of all [his enemies], and gave them rest round about.
So rettete Jahwe Hiskia und die Bewohner Jerusalems aus der Gewalt Sanheribs, des Königs von Assyrien, und aus der Gewalt aller und verschaffte ihnen ringsum Ruhe.
23 And many brought gifts to the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezekias king of Juda; and he was exalted in the eyes of all the nations after these things.
Und viele brachten Jahwe Gaben und Jerusalem und Hiskia, dem Könige von Jerusalem, Kleinodien, und er stand darnach in den Augen aller Völker hoch da.
24 In those days Ezekias was sick even to death, and prayed to the Lord: and he listened to him, and gave him a sign.
Zu jener Zeit ward Hiskia todkrank. Da betete er zu Jahwe, und dieser redete zu ihm und gab ihm ein Wunderzeichen.
25 But Ezekias did not recompense the Lord according to the return which he made him, but his heart was lifted up: and wrath came upon him, and upon Juda and Jerusalem.
Aber Hiskia vergalt nicht die Wohlthat, die ihm widerfahren war, sondern ward hochmütig; darum kam grimmiger Zorn über ihn und über Juda und Jerusalem.
26 And Ezekias humbled himself after the exaltation of his heart, he and the dwellers in Jerusalem; and the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Ezekias.
Da demütigte sich Hiskia in seinem Hochmut, er und die Bewohner Jerusalems; daher kam der grimmige Zorn Jahwes nicht schon bei den Lebzeiten Hiskias über sie.
27 And Ezekias had wealth and very great glory: and he made for himself treasuries of gold, and silver, and precious stones, also for spices, and stores for arms, and for precious vessels;
Es besaß aber Hiskia sehr großen Reichtum und Macht. Er hatte sich Schatzkammern angelegt für Silber, Gold und Edelsteine, sowie für Spezereien, Schilde und allerlei kostbare Geräte,
28 and cities for the produce of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls and mangers for every [kind of] cattle, and folds for flocks;
dazu Vorratshäuser für den Ertrag an Getreide, Most und Öl, und Ställe für allerlei Arten von Vieh und Hürden für die Herden.
29 and cities which he built for himself, and store of sheep and oxen in abundance, for the Lord gave him a very great store.
Auch legte er sich Städte an und große Herden von Schafen und Rindern; denn Gott hatte ihm überaus viel Habe geschenkt.
30 The same Ezekias stopped up the course of the water of Gion above, and brought the water down straight south of the city of David. And Ezekias prospered in all his works.
Derselbe Hiskia verstopfte den oberen Ausfluß der Quelle Gihon und leitete sie hinunter nach der Westseite der Stadt Davids; und bei allem, was er unternahm, hatte Hiskia Gelingen.
31 Notwithstanding, in regard to the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who were sent to him to enquire of him [concerning] the prodigy which came upon the land, the Lord left him, to try him, to know what was in his heart.
Demgemäß gab ihn Gott auch den Gesandten der Fürsten von Babel, die zu ihm geschickt waren, um sich nach dem Wunderzeichen zu erkundigen, das im Lande geschehen war, nur so weit preis, um ihn auf die Probe zu stellen, damit er seine Gesinnung vollständig erfahre.
32 And the rest of the acts of Ezekias, and his kindness, behold, they are written in the prophecy of Esaias the son of Amos the prophet, and in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.
Die übrige Geschichte Hiskias aber und seine frommen Thaten finden sich aufgezeichnet in den Offenbarungen des Propheten Jesaja, des Sohnes des Amoz, und im Buche der Könige von Juda und Israel.
33 And Ezekias slept with his fathers, and they buried him in a high place amongst the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem gave him glory and honour at his death. And Manasses his son reigned in his stead.
Und Hiskia legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn am Aufstieg zu den Gräbern der Nachkommen Davids, und ganz Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems erwiesen ihm Ehre bei seinem Tode. Und sein Sohn Manasse ward König an seiner Statt.
