Joshua 3
1 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and departed from Sattin; and they came as far as Jordan, and lodged there before they crossed over.
Josué se levantó temprano por la mañana; partieron de Sitim y llegaron al Jordán, él y todos los hijos de Israel. Acamparon allí antes de cruzar.
2 And it came to pass after three days, [that] the scribes went through the camp;
Después de tres días, los oficiales pasaron por el medio del campamento;
3 and they charged the people, saying, When you shall see the ark of the covenant of the Lord our God, and our priests and the Levites bearing it, you shall depart from your places, and you shall go after it.
y ordenaron al pueblo, diciendo: “Cuando veáis el arca de la alianza de Yahvé vuestro Dios, y a los sacerdotes levitas que la llevan, dejad vuestro lugar y seguidla.
4 But let there be a distance between you and it; you shall stand as much as two thousand cubits [from it]. Do not draw near to it, that you may know the way which you are to go; for you have not gone the way before.
Pero habrá un espacio entre vosotros y ella de unos dos mil codos por medida — no os acerquéis a ella — para que sepáis el camino por el que debéis ir, porque nunca habéis pasado por aquí.”
5 And Joshua said to the people, Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow, for to-morrow the Lord will do wonders amongst you.
Josué dijo al pueblo: “Santificaos, porque mañana Yahvé hará maravillas entre vosotros”.
6 And Joshua said to the priests, Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and go before the people: and the priests took up the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and went before the people.
Josué habló a los sacerdotes, diciendo: “Tomen el arca de la alianza y pasen delante del pueblo”. Tomaron el arca de la alianza y pasaron delante del pueblo.
7 And the Lord said to Joshua, This day do I begin to exalt you before all the children of Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so will I also be with you.
Yahvé dijo a Josué: “Hoy comenzaré a engrandecerte a los ojos de todo Israel, para que sepan que como estuve con Moisés, así estaré contigo.
8 And now charge the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, As soon as you shall enter on a part of the water of Jordan, then you shall stand in Jordan.
Ordenarás a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca de la alianza que digan: “Cuando lleguéis al borde de las aguas del Jordán, os detendréis en el Jordán.”
9 And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come hither, and listen to the word of the Lord our God.
Josué dijo a los hijos de Israel: “Venid aquí y escuchad las palabras de Yahvé, vuestro Dios”.
10 Hereby you shall know that the living God [is] amongst you, and will utterly destroy from before our face the Chananite, and the Chettite and Pherezite, and the Evite, and the Amorite, and the Gergesite, and the Jebusite.
Josué dijo: “En esto sabréis que el Dios vivo está en medio de vosotros, y que sin falta expulsará de vuestra presencia al cananeo, al hitita, al heveo, al ferezeo, al gergeseo, al amorreo y al jebuseo.
11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passes over Jordan.
He aquí que el arca del pacto del Señor de toda la tierra pasa delante de vosotros al Jordán.
12 Choose for yourselves twelve men of the sons of Israel, one of each tribe.
Toma, pues, doce hombres de las tribus de Israel, un hombre por cada tribu.
13 And it shall come to pass, when the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth rest in the water of Jordan, the water of Jordan [below] shall fail, and the water coming down from above shall stop.
Cuando las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes que llevan el arca de Yahvé, el Señor de toda la tierra, descansen en las aguas del Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se cortarán. Las aguas que descienden de lo alto se pararán en un montón”.
14 And the people removed from their tents to cross over Jordan, and the priests bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord before the people.
Cuando el pueblo salió de sus tiendas para pasar el Jordán, los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca de la alianza iban delante del pueblo,
15 And when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord entered upon Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord were dipped in part of the water of Jordan; (now Jordan overflowed all its banks about the time of wheat harvest: )
y cuando los que llevaban el arca llegaron al Jordán, y los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se sumergieron en la orilla del agua (porque el Jordán se desborda por todas sus orillas todo el tiempo de la cosecha),
16 then the waters that came down from above stopped; there stood one solid heap very far off, as far as the region of Kariathiarim, and the lower part came down to the sea of Araba, the salt sea, till it completely failed; and the people stood opposite Jericho.
las aguas que descendían de arriba se detuvieron, y subieron en un montón a gran distancia, en Adam, la ciudad que está junto a Zaretán; y las que descendían hacia el mar del Arabá, el Mar Salado, fueron totalmente cortadas. Luego el pueblo pasó cerca de Jericó.
17 And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood on dry land in the midst of Jordan; and all the children of Israel went through on dry land, until all the people had completely gone over Jordan.
Los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca de la alianza de Yahvé se mantuvieron firmes en tierra seca en medio del Jordán, y todo Israel cruzó en tierra seca, hasta que toda la nación pasó completamente el Jordán.
