Judges 18
1 In those days there was no king in Israel; and in those days the tribe of Dan sought for itself an inheritance to inhabit, because no inheritance had fallen to it until that day in the midst of the tribes of the children of Israel.
Đến lúc ấy, Ít-ra-ên vẫn chưa có vua, và đại tộc Đan vẫn chưa chiếm được phần đất mình nên họ đang đi tìm một nơi lập nghiệp.
2 And the sons of Dan sent from their families five men of valour, from Saraa and from Esthaol, to spy out the land and to search it; and they said to them, Go and search out the land. And they came as far as the mount of Ephraim to the house of Michaias and they lodged there,
Đại tộc này chọn năm người dũng cảm ở Xô-ra và Ê-ta-ôn, sai đi do thám đất. Họ đến miền núi Ép-ra-im và nghỉ đêm tại nhà Mai-ca.
3 in the house of Michaias, and they recognised the voice of the young man the Levite, and turned in there; and said to him, Who brought you in hither? and what do you in this place? and what have you here?
Ở đó, họ nhận ra giọng nói quen thuộc của người Lê-vi, nên đem người này ra một nơi, và hỏi: “Ai đem ông đến đây? Ông đến có việc gì?”
4 And he said to them, Thus and thus did Michaias to me, and he hired me, and I became his priest.
Người này kể cho họ nghe việc Mai-ca mướn mình làm thầy tế lễ.
5 And they said to him, Enquire now of God, and we shall know whether our way will prosper, on which we are going.
Nghe thế, họ yêu cầu: “Xin hãy cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời, xem thử chúng tôi đi chuyến này thành công không?”
6 And the priest said to them, Go in peace; your way in which you go, [is] before the Lord.
Thầy tế lễ đáp: “Các ông cứ an tâm, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu chăm sóc các ông trong chuyến đi này.”
7 And the five men went on, and came to Laisa; and they saw the people in the midst of it dwelling securely, at ease as [is] the manner of the Sidonians, and there is no one perverting or shaming a matter in the land, no heir extorting treasures; and they are far from the Sidonians, and they have no intercourse with any one.
Vậy năm người ấy tiếp tục đi, đến La-ích, họ thấy dân ở đó sống lặng lẽ, an ổn, không phòng bị. Nếp sống của họ giống người Si-đôn; các nhà lãnh đạo không phiền nhiễu dân chúng. Tuy nhiên, họ sống xa cách người Si-đôn và không giao hảo với các dân tộc khác.
8 And the five men came to their brethren to Saraa and Esthaol, and said to their brethren, Why sit you here [idle]?
Khi năm người trở về Xô-ra và Ê-ta-ôn, anh em hỏi họ: “Công việc do thám ra sao?”
9 And they said, Arise, and let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and, behold, [it is] very good, yet you are still: delay not to go, an to enter in to possess the land.
Họ đáp: “Chúng ta hãy lên đánh lấy xứ vì đây là một vùng đất rất tốt. Anh em tính sao? Đừng ngần ngại đi lên chiếm xứ làm sản nghiệp.
10 And whenever you shall go, you shall come in upon a people secure, and the land [is] extensive, for God has given it into your hand; a place where there is no lack of anything that the earth affords.
Khi anh em đến đó, sẽ thấy một vùng đất phì nhiêu, rộng rãi, dân cư sống không phòng bị gì cả. Đức Chúa Trời cho ta đất này, một miền không thiếu thứ gì cả!”
11 And there departed thence of the families of Dan, from Saraa and from Esthaol, six hundred men, girded with weapons of war.
Vậy, 600 người thuộc đại tộc Đan có trang bị khí giới, khởi hành từ Xô-ra và Ê-ta-ôn.
12 And they went up, and encamped in Cariathiarim in Juda; therefore it was called in that place the camp of Dan, until this day: behold, [it is] behind Cariathiarim.
Họ đến đóng trại phía tây Ki-ri-át Giê-a-rim trong đất Giu-đa, vì thế, đến nay nơi này vẫn được gọi là Trại Quân Đan.
13 And they went on thence to the mount of Ephraim, and came to the house of Michaias.
Họ tiếp tục ra đi đến miền núi Ép-ra-im, đến nhà Mai-ca.
14 And the five men who went to spy out the land of Laisa answered, and said to their brethren, You know that there is in this place an ephod, and theraphin, and a graven and a molten image; and now consider what you shall do.
Năm thám tử nói: “Trong nhà này có ê-phót, tượng thần, tượng đúc, và tượng chạm. Anh em biết phải hành động thế nào rồi chứ?”
15 And they turned aside there, and went into the house of the young man, the Levite, [even] into the house of Michaias, and asked him how he was.
Sau đó, năm thám tử rẽ vào nhà Mai-ca, chào hỏi người Lê-vi trẻ tuổi tử tế.
16 And the six hundred men of the sons of Dan who were girded with their weapons of war stood by the door of the gate.
Còn 600 người lính thuộc đại tộc Đan đứng bên ngoài cổng.
17 And the five men who went to spy out the land went up, and entered into the house of Michaias, and the priest stood.
Sau đó, người Lê-vi đi ra, đứng với 600 lính ở ngoài cổng, còn năm thám tử cướp lấy tượng đúc, ê-phót, và tượng thần đem ra.
18 And they took the graven image, and the ephod, and the theraphin, and the molten image; and the priest said to them, What are you doing?
Thấy năm người này cướp các vật ấy, thầy tế lễ người Lê-vi hỏi: “Các ông làm gì thế?”
19 And they said to him, Be silent, lay your hand upon your mouth, and come with us, and be to us a father and a priest: [is it] better for you to be the priest of the house of one man, or to be the priest of a tribe and house for a family of Israel?
Họ bảo: “Im đi! Cứ theo chúng tôi, làm cha và thầy tế lễ cho chúng tôi. Làm thầy tế lễ cho cả một đại tộc Ít-ra-ên không hơn làm cho một nhà, một người sao?”
20 And the heart of the priest was glad, and he took the ephod, and the theraphin, and the graven image, and the molten image, and went in the midst of the people.
Thầy tế lễ mừng quá, mang cả ê-phót, tượng thần, và tượng chạm, đi theo đám người ấy.
21 So they turned and departed, and put their children and their property and their baggage before them.
Vậy họ tiếp tục lên đường. Trẻ con, gia súc, và hàng hóa được đưa đi trước.
22 They went some distance from the house of Michaias, and, behold, Michaias and the men in the houses near Michaias' house, cried out, and overtook the children of Dan.
Khi những người thuộc đại tộc Đan rời nhà Mai-ca một khoảng khá xa, dân chúng sống gần Mai-ca cùng nhau đuổi theo.
23 And the children of Dan turned their face, and said to Michaias, What is the matter with you that you have cried out?
Nghe tiếng kêu la phía sau, người Đan quay lại, hỏi Mai-ca: “Có việc gì vậy? Ông dẫn những người này đuổi theo chúng tôi làm gì?”
24 And Michaias said, Because you have taken my graven image which I made, and my priest, and are gone; and what have I remaining? and what [is] this [that] you say to me, Why cry you?
Mai-ca đáp: “Sao các người còn hỏi: ‘Có việc gì?’ Các người lấy đi thần tượng và cả thầy tế lễ của tôi, chẳng để lại gì cả!”
25 And the children of Dan said to him, Let not your voice be heard with us, lest angry men run upon you, and take away your life, and the lives of your house.
Người Đan nói: “Im miệng đi! Nếu không, sẽ có người nổi giận, giết ông và cả nhà bây giờ.”
26 And the children of Dan went their way; and Michaias saw that they were stronger than himself, and he returned to his house.
Nói xong, người Đan tiếp tục đi. Mai-ca thấy họ đông và mạnh hơn bên mình nhiều quá, nên đành quay về.
27 And the children of Dan took what Michaias had made, and the priest that he had, and they came to Laisa, to a people quiet and secure; and they struck them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.
Như vậy, người Đan đoạt thần tượng và mọi thứ của Mai-ca, luôn cả thầy tế lễ người Lê-vi nữa, rồi họ đến La-ích, một thành có dân sống an ổn và không phòng bị. Họ xông vào chém giết và đốt thành.
28 And there was no deliverer, because [the city] is far from the Sidonians, and they have no intercourse with men, and it [is] in the valley of the house of Raab; and they built the city, and lived in it.
Chẳng có ai tiếp cứu người La-ích, vì họ ở khá xa Si-đôn và cũng không giao hảo với dân nào khác. Chuyện xảy ra trong thung lũng gần Bết-rê-hóp. Rồi người Đan xây lại thành và sống ở đó.
29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; and the name of the city was Ulamais before.
Họ lấy tên tổ tiên mình là Đan, con của Ít-ra-ên, đặt cho thành thay tên La-ích.
30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image for themselves; and Jonathan son of Gerson son of Manasse, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan till the time of the carrying away of the nation.
Họ dựng tượng lên, bổ nhiệm Giô-na-than, con Ghẹt-sôn, cháu Môi-se, và các con ông ấy làm thầy tế lễ cho đại tộc mình. Gia đình này tiếp tục giữ chức tế lễ trong đại tộc Đan cho đến ngày bị lưu Đày.
31 And they set up for themselves the graven image which Michaias made, all the days that the house of God was in Selom; and it was so in those days [that] there was no king in Israel.
Như vậy, trong khi có Đền Tạm của Đức Chúa Trời ở tại Si-lô, người Đan lại đi thờ thần tượng của Mai-ca làm ra.
