2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, according to promise of life, the [life] which [is] in Christ Jesus,

Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, pour annoncer la promesse de la vie qui est en Christ Jésus,

2 to Timotheus, [my] beloved child: grace, mercy, peace, from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.

à Timothée, mon enfant bien-aimé: Grâce, miséricorde, paix, de par Dieu le Père et Christ Jésus notre seigneur!

3 I am thankful to God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, how unceasingly I have the remembrance of thee in my supplications night and day,

J'offre des actions de grâces à Dieu, auquel je rends un culte héréditaire avec une conscience pure, de ce que je conserve de toi un perpétuel souvenir, dans mes prières nuit et jour;

4 earnestly desiring to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

désirant te revoir quand je me rappelle tes larmes, afin d'être rempli de joie,

5 calling to mind the unfeigned faith which [has been] in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.

me souvenant de la foi sincère qui est en toi, et qui habita d'abord dans ton aïeule Lois, puis dans ta mère Eunice, et qui, j'en suis persuadé, habite aussi en toi.

6 For which cause I put thee in mind to rekindle the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

C'est pourquoi je t'invite à ranimer le don de Christ, qui est en toi par l'imposition de mes mains;

7 For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of wise discretion.

car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de timidité, mais de puissance, de charité et de sagesse.

8 Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but suffer evil along with the glad tidings, according to the power of God;

Ne rougis donc point du témoignage de notre seigneur, ni de moi son prisonnier, mais prends ta part des souffrances pour l'Évangile, selon la puissance de Dieu

9 who has saved us, and has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to [his] own purpose and grace, which [was] given to us in Christ Jesus before [the] ages of time, (aiōnios g166)

qui nous a sauvés, et qui nous a adressé un saint appel, non en raison de nos œuvres, mais suivant Son propre décret, et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Christ Jésus avant les temps éternels, (aiōnios g166)

10 but has been made manifest now by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and brought to light life and incorruptibility by the glad tidings;

mais qui a été maintenant manifestée par l'apparition de notre sauveur Christ Jésus, qui, d'un côté, a détruit la mort, et qui, de l'autre, a mis en lumière la vie et l'immortalité par l'Évangile,

11 to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle and teacher of [the] nations.

pour lequel j'ai été établi prédicateur, apôtre et docteur,

12 For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.

ce qui est cause que j'endure aussi ces souffrances; mais je n'en rougis point, car je sais en Qui j'ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu'il peut, par Sa puissance, garder mon dépôt pour ce jour-là.

13 Have an outline of sound words, which [words] thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which [are] in Christ Jesus.

Retiens avec foi, et avec la charité qui est en Christ Jésus, ce modèle des vérités salutaires que tu m'as entendu prêcher;

14 Keep, by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted.

garde le bon dépôt par l'esprit saint qui habite en nous.

15 Thou knowest this, that all who [are] in Asia, of whom is Phygellus and Hermogenes, have turned away from me.

Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m'ont abandonné; parmi eux se trouvent Phygelle et Hermogène.

16 The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he has often refreshed me, and has not been ashamed of my chain;

Que le seigneur se montre miséricordieux envers la famille d'Onésiphore; car il m'a souvent réconforté, et il n'a point rougi de mes chaînes,

17 but being in Rome sought me out very diligently, and found [me] —

mais, au contraire, dès son arrivée à Rome, il m'a cherché avec plus d'empressement que je ne pensais, et il m'a trouvé;

18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from [the] Lord in that day — and how much service he rendered in Ephesus thou knowest best.

que le seigneur lui accorde d'obtenir miséricorde de la part du seigneur en ce jour-là; d'ailleurs tu sais mieux que personne tous les services qu'il a rendus dans Éphèse.
