Ephesians 4
1 I, the prisoner in [the] Lord, exhort you therefore to walk worthy of the calling wherewith ye have been called,
Als der Gefangene im Herrn ermahne ich euch: Wandelt würdig des Berufs, der euch zuteil geworden ist,
2 with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love;
in aller Demut, Sanftmut, Geduld. Ertragt einander in Liebe;
3 using diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the uniting bond of peace.
seid eifrig darauf bedacht, die Einheit des Geistes zu erhalten durch das Band des Friedens.
4 [There is] one body and one Spirit, as ye have been also called in one hope of your calling;
Es ist nur ein Leib und ein Geist, wie ihr ja auch, als ihr berufen wurdet, zu einer Hoffnung berufen worden seid.
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
Es ist auch nur ein Herr, ein Glaube, eine Taufe,
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
ein Gott und Vater aller, der über allen und durch alle und in allen wirkt.
7 But to each one of us has been given grace according to the measure of the gift of the Christ.
Jedem aus uns wurde die Gnade verliehen je nach dem von Christus ausgeteilten Maß.
8 Wherefore he says, Having ascended up on high, he has led captivity captive, and has given gifts to men.
Darum heißt es auch: "Er stieg zur Höhe auf und führte die Gefangenen mit sich und gab den Menschen seine Gaben."
9 But that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?
Was setzt das Hinaufsteigen anderes voraus, als daß er vorher unter die Erde hinabgestiegen ist?
10 He that descended is the same who has also ascended up above all the heavens, that he might fill all things;
Der herabkam, ist derselbe, der über alle Himmel aufstieg, um so das Weltall zu erfüllen.
11 and he has given some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some shepherds and teachers,
Und er bestimmte die einen zu Aposteln, die anderen zu Propheten, noch andere zu Evangelisten, zu Hirten und zu Lehrern.
12 for the perfecting of the saints; with a view to [the] work of [the] ministry, with a view to the edifying of the body of Christ;
Sie sollen so die Heiligen zur Ausübung des Amtes bilden, zum Aufbau des Leibes Christi,
13 until we all arrive at the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, at [the] full-grown man, at [the] measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;
bis wir alle zur Einheit im Glauben kommen und zur vollen Erkenntnis des Sohnes Gottes und zum vollendeten Manne, zum Maß der Reife der Christusfülle.
14 in order that we may be no longer babes, tossed and carried about by every wind of that teaching [which is] in the sleight of men, in unprincipled cunning with a view to systematized error;
Dann sind wir nicht mehr unmündige Kinder, die sich schaukeln und tragen lassen durch jeden Windhauch irgendeiner Lehre, durch der Menschen Trugspiel und durch die Arglist in der Kunst der Irreführung.
15 but, holding the truth in love, we may grow up to him in all things, who is the head, the Christ:
Nein, an die Wahrheit wollen wir uns halten, in Liebe ganz und gar in den hineinwachsen, der das Haupt ist, Christus.
16 from whom the whole body, fitted together, and connected by every joint of supply, according to [the] working in [its] measure of each one part, works for itself the increase of the body to its self-building up in love.
Von ihm aus fügt und schließt sich der ganze Leib zusammen - und jedes der Gelenke leistet seinen Dienst dabei -, und jedem Teil ist sein ganz bestimmtes Maß der Arbeit zugemessen, und so vollzieht sich das Wachstum des Leibes, bis er sich auferbaut in Liebe.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in [the] Lord, that ye should no longer walk as [the rest of] the nations walk in [the] vanity of their mind,
So sage ich denn und beschwöre euch im Herrn: Wandelt nicht mehr gleich den Heiden, die nach ihrem verkehrten Sinne wandeln!
18 being darkened in understanding, estranged from the life of God by reason of the ignorance which is in them, by reason of the hardness of their hearts,
Sie sind in ihrem Denken verfinstert, entfremdet einem Leben in Gott; Unwissenheit hält sie umfangen, weil ihr Herz verhärtet ist.
19 who having cast off all feeling, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greedy unsatisfied lust.
Und unempfindlich wurden sie und gaben sich selbst der Ausschweifung hin, um unersättlich jeder Unreinheit zu frönen.
20 But ye have not thus learnt the Christ,
Ihr aber habt Christus nicht in solcher Weise kennengelernt,
21 if ye have heard him and been instructed in him according as [the] truth is in Jesus;
Soweit ihr von ihm gehört habt und über ihn unterrichtet worden seid, so wie es in Jesus Wahrheit ist.
22 [namely] your having put off according to the former conversation the old man which corrupts itself according to the deceitful lusts;
Legt ab den alten Menschen nach eurem früheren Wandel, der seiner trügerischen Lüste wegen untergeht.
23 and being renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Ihr sollt euch vielmehr durch den Geist in eurem Sinn erneuern
24 and [your] having put on the new man, which according to God is created in truthful righteousness and holiness.
und anziehen den neuen Menschen, der nach Gott geschaffen ist in wahrer Gerechtigkeit und Heiligkeit.
25 Wherefore, having put off falsehood, speak truth every one with his neighbour, because we are members one of another.
So leget denn die Lüge ab; ein jeder rede mit seinem Nächsten die Wahrheit. Wir sind ja Glieder untereinander.
26 Be angry, and do not sin; let not the sun set upon your wrath,
"Wenn ihr zürnt, dann sündigt nicht". Die Sonne gehe nicht unter über eurem Groll.
27 neither give room for the devil.
Gebt dem Teufel nicht Raum.
28 Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him toil, working what is honest with [his] hands, that he may have to distribute to him that has need.
Der Dieb soll nicht mehr stehlen; vielmehr verschaffe er sich durch seiner Hände Arbeit ehrlichen Verdienst, damit er davon dem Bedürftigen noch geben könne.
29 Let no corrupt word go out of your mouth, but if [there be] any good one for needful edification, that it may give grace to those that hear [it].
Aus eurem Munde komme keine schlechte Rede, sondern nur gute, die, wo nur immer möglich, zur Erbauung dient und so den Hörern Segen bringt.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which ye have been sealed for [the] day of redemption.
Betrübt nicht den Heiligen Geist Gottes, mit dem ihr für den Tag der Erlösung besiegelt seid.
31 Let all bitterness, and heat of passion, and wrath, and clamour, and injurious language, be removed from you, with all malice;
Und jede Bitterkeit und jeder Zorn und Groll und alles Lärmen, alles Lästern samt aller Bosheit soll euch ferne bleiben.
32 and be to one another kind, compassionate, forgiving one another, so as God also in Christ has forgiven you.
Seid vielmehr gütig und barmherzig gegeneinander, vergebt einander, so wie Gott in Christus euch vergeben hat!
