Judges 12

1 And the men of Ephraim were called together, and passed over northwards, and said to Jephthah, Why didst thou pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? We will burn thy house upon thee with fire.

Entonces los varones de Efraín fueron convocados, cruzaron hacia Safón y dijeron a Jefté: ¿Por qué fuiste a luchar contra los hijos de Amón y no nos llamaste para ir contigo? ¡Incendiaremos tu casa contigo dentro!

2 And Jephthah said to them, I was at great strife, I and my people, with the children of Ammon; and I called you, but ye saved me not out of their hand.

Jefté les respondió: Yo y mi pueblo tuvimos una gran contienda contra los hijos de Amón. Los convoqué a ustedes, pero no me [auxiliaron para] librarnos de su mano.

3 And when I saw that ye would not save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah gave them into my hand. Why then are ye come up to me this day, to fight against me?

Cuando vi que ustedes no me defenderían, arriesgué mi vida y pasé contra los hijos de Amón. Yavé los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué se levantan hoy a pelear contra mí?

4 And Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye, Gilead, ye are fugitives of Ephraim in the midst of Ephraim, [and] in the midst of Manasseh.

Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los varones de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín. Y los hombres de Galaad derrotaron a Efraín, porque [éstos] dijeron: ¡Ustedes, los galaaditas, son fugitivos de Efraín, en medio de Efraín y de Manasés!

5 And Gilead took the fords of the Jordan before Ephraim; and it came to pass that when the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, Art thou an Ephraimite? and he said, No.

Los galaaditas capturaron los vados del Jordán que están frente a Efraín. Y sucedía que cuando cualquiera de los fugitivos de Efraín decía: Voy a pasar, los hombres de Galaad le preguntaban: ¿Eres tú efrateo? Y si él respondía: No,

6 Then they said to him, Say now Shibboleth! and he said, Sibboleth, and did not manage to pronounce [it] rightly. Then they took him, and slaughtered him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty-two thousand.

entonces le decían: Dí ahora, Shibolet. Y él decía Sibolet, porque no podía pronunciar así. Entonces le echaban mano y lo degollaban en los vados del Jordán. Y en aquel tiempo cayeron 42.000 de Efraín.

7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. And Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.

Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Jefté galaadita murió y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.

8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

Después de él, Ibzán, de Belén, juzgó a Israel.

9 And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent out of the house, and thirty daughters he took in from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

Tenía 30 hijos y 30 hijas a las cuales casó afuera. Tomó de afuera 30 mujeres para sus hijos. Y juzgó a Israel siete años.

10 And Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.

Ibzán murió y fue sepultado en Belén.

11 And after him Elon, the Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

Después de él Elón zabulonita juzgó a Israel, y juzgó a Israel diez años.

12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Ajalon in the land of Zebulun.

Elón zabulonita murió y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, judged Israel.

Después de él Abdón, hijo de Hilel, piratonita, juzgó a Israel.

14 And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy ass colts. And he judged Israel eight years.

Éste tuvo 40 hijos y 30 nietos, que cabalgaban sobre 70 asnos. Y juzgó a Israel 8 años.

15 And Abdon the son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites.

Abdón, hijo de Hilel piratonita, murió y fue sepultado en Piratón en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.
