Luke 18
1 And he spoke also a parable to them to the purport that they should always pray and not faint,
Or, pour leur montrer qu'il fallait toujours prier et ne pas perdre courage, il leur adressait une parabole
2 saying, There was a judge in a city, not fearing God and not respecting man:
en ces termes: « Il y avait dans une ville un certain juge qui ne craignait point Dieu et n'avait d'égards pour personne;
3 and there was a widow in that city, and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of mine adverse party.
or dans cette ville-là était une veuve, et elle venait lui dire: « Fais-moi justice de mon adversaire. »
4 And he would not for a time; but afterwards he said within himself, If even I fear not God and respect not man,
Et pendant longtemps il ne le voulait pas; mais ensuite il se dit en lui-même: Quoique je ne craigne point Dieu et que je n'aie non plus d'égards pour personne,
5 at any rate because this widow annoys me I will avenge her, that she may not by perpetually coming completely harass me.
cependant comme cette veuve me cause du tracas, je lui ferai justice, de peur qu'elle ne finisse par venir me donner des coups. »
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says.
Or le seigneur dit: « Écoutez ce que dit le juge inique;
7 And shall not God at all avenge his elect, who cry to him day and night, and he bears long as to them?
mais Dieu ne fera-t-Il pas justice à Ses élus qui crient à Lui jour et nuit, et tarde-t-Il à leur égard?
8 I say unto you that he will avenge them speedily. But when the Son of man comes, shall he indeed find faith on the earth?
Je vous déclare qu'il leur fera justice au plus tôt. Toutefois le fils de l'homme, quand il viendra, trouvera-t-il la foi sur la terre? »
9 And he spoke also to some, who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and made nothing of all the rest [of men], this parable:
Or il dit aussi à quelques personnes qui possédaient pour elles-mêmes l'assurance d'être justes et qui méprisaient les autres, la parabole suivante:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer.
« Deux hommes montèrent au temple pour prier, l'un était pharisien, et l'autre publicain.
11 The Pharisee, standing, prayed thus to himself: God, I thank thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer.
Le pharisien, se tenant debout, faisait en lui-même cette prière: « O Dieu! Je Te rends grâce de ce que je ne suis pas comme les autres hommes qui sont spoliateurs, injustes, adultères, ou même comme ce publicain:
12 I fast twice in the week, I tithe everything I gain.
je jeûne deux fois la semaine, je donne la dîme de tout ce que j'acquiers. »
13 And the tax-gatherer, standing afar off, would not lift up even his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, O God, have compassion on me, the sinner.
Mais le publicain se tenant à distance ne se permettait pas même de lever les yeux vers le ciel, mais il se frappait la poitrine en disant: « O Dieu, aie compassion de moi qui suis pécheur! »
14 I say unto you, This [man] went down to his house justified rather than that [other]. For every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
Je vous le déclare, celui-ci redescendit justifié dans sa maison à l'inverse de l'autre, car quiconque s'élève lui-même sera abaissé, tandis que celui qui s'abaisse lui-même sera élevé. »
15 And they brought to him also infants that he might touch them, but the disciples when they saw [it] rebuked them.
Or on lui apportait aussi les petits enfants, afin qu'il les touchât; ce que les disciples ayant vu ils les réprimandaient.
16 But Jesus calling them to [him] said, Suffer little children to come to me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God.
Mais Jésus les appela à lui, en disant: « Laissez les petits enfants venir à moi, et ne les en empêchez pas, car c'est à ceux qui leur ressemblent qu'appartient le royaume de Dieu.
17 Verily I say to you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
En vérité je vous le déclare, celui qui n'aura pas reçu le royaume de Dieu comme un petit enfant n'y entrera certainement point. »
18 And a certain ruler asked him saying, Good teacher, having done what, shall I inherit eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
Et un chef l'interrogea en disant: « Bon Maître, par quelle conduite hériterai-je la vie éternelle? » (aiōnios g166)
19 But Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, God.
Mais Jésus lui dit: « Pourquoi m'appelles-tu bon? Nul n'est bon, si ce n'est un seul, Dieu.
20 Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Tu connais les commandements: « Ne commets point d'adultère; ne tue point; ne dérobe point; ne fais point de faux témoignage; honore ton père et ta mère. »
21 And he said, All these things have I kept from my youth.
L'autre dit: « J'ai observé toutes ces choses dès ma jeunesse. »
22 And when Jesus had heard this, he said to him, One thing is lacking to thee yet: Sell all that thou hast and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in the heavens, and come, follow me.
Ce que Jésus ayant ouï, il lui dit: « Il te manque encore une chose: vends tout ce que tu possèdes, et distribue-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans les cieux; puis viens, suis-moi. »
23 But when he heard this he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.
Mais l'autre en entendant cela devint tout triste, car il était très riche.
24 But when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, he said, How difficultly shall those who have riches enter into the kingdom of God;
Or Jésus l'ayant regardé dit: « Avec quelle difficulté ceux qui possèdent les richesses entrent-ils dans le royaume de Dieu!
25 for it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Il est en effet plus facile qu'un chameau entre par un trou d'aiguille, qu'un riche n'entre dans le royaume de Dieu. »
26 And those who heard it said, And who can be saved?
Mais les auditeurs dirent: « Et qui peut être sauvé? »
27 But he said, The things that are impossible with men are possible with God.
Or il dit: « Ce qui est impossible quant aux hommes est possible quant à Dieu. »
28 And Peter said, Behold, we have left all things and have followed thee.
Or Pierre lui dit: « Voici, pour nous, après avoir abandonné nos propres biens, nous t'avons suivi. »
29 And he said to them, Verily I say to you, There is no one who has left home, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
Et il leur dit: « En vérité je vous déclare qu'il n'est personne qui, ayant abandonné maison, ou femme, ou frères, ou parents, ou enfants, à cause du royaume de Dieu,
31 And he took the twelve to [him] and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written of the Son of man by the prophets shall be accomplished;
Et ayant pris les douze à part, il leur dit: « Voici, nous montons à Jérusalem, et tout ce qui a été écrit par les prophètes relativement au fils de l'homme s'accomplira;
32 for he shall be delivered up to the nations, and shall be mocked, and insulted, and spit upon.
car il sera livré aux Gentils, et il sera bafoué et injurié, et on crachera sur lui,
33 And when they have scourged [him] they will kill him; and on the third day he will rise again.
et après l'avoir fouetté ils le mettront à mort, et le troisième jour il ressuscitera. »
34 And they understood nothing of these things. And this word was hidden from them, and they did not know what was said.
Et pour eux ils ne comprenaient rien à cela, et cette parole leur était cachée, et ils ne saisissaient pas ce qui avait été dit.
35 And it came to pass when he came into the neighbourhood of Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging.
Or il advint, au moment où il approchait de Jéricho, qu'un aveugle se trouvait assis près du chemin pour mendier.
36 And when he heard the crowd passing, he inquired what this might be.
Mais ayant entendu la foule qui passait devant lui, il s'informait de ce que c'était.
37 And they told him that Jesus the Nazaraean was passing by.
On lui dit: « C'est Jésus le Nazaréen qui passe. »
38 And he called out saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.
Et il s'écria: « Jésus, fils de David, aie pitié de moi. »
39 And those [who were] going before rebuked him that he might be silent; but he cried out so much the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.
Et ceux qui marchaient les premiers le réprimandaient pour le faire taire; mais lui criait de plus belle: « Fils de David, aie pitié de moi. »
40 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be led to him. And when he drew nigh he asked him [saying],
Et Jésus s'étant arrêté ordonna qu'on le lui amenât; et quand il se fut approché, il lui demanda: « Que veux-tu que je fasse pour toi? »
41 What wilt thou that I shall do to thee? And he said, Lord, that I may see.
Et l'autre dit: « Seigneur, que je recouvre la vue.
42 And Jesus said to him, See: thy faith has healed thee.
Et Jésus lui dit: « Recouvre la vue; ta foi t'a guéri. »
43 And immediately he saw, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people when they saw [it] gave praise to God.
Et immédiatement il recouvra la vue, et il le suivait en glorifiant Dieu. Et tout le peuple voyant cela rendit louange à Dieu.
