Proverbs 11
1 A false balance is an abomination to Jehovah; but a just weight is his delight.
TUHAN membenci orang yang memakai timbangan yang curang tapi Ia senang dengan orang yang memakai timbangan yang tepat.
2 [When] pride cometh, then cometh shame; but with the lowly is wisdom.
Orang yang sombong akan dihina; orang yang rendah hati adalah bijaksana.
3 The integrity of the upright guideth them; but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroyeth them.
Orang baik dituntun oleh kejujurannya; orang yang suka bohong dihancurkan oleh kebohongannya.
4 Wealth profiteth not in the day of wrath; but righteousness delivereth from death.
Apabila menghadapi maut, harta benda tak berarti; hidupmu akan selamat bila engkau tulus hati.
5 The righteousness of the perfect maketh plain his way; but the wicked falleth by his own wickedness.
Jalan hidup orang baik diratakan oleh kejujuran, tetapi orang jahat membawa diri kepada kehancuran.
6 The righteousness of the upright delivereth them; but the treacherous are taken in their own craving.
Orang jujur selamat karena ketulusan hatinya; orang yang tak dapat dipercaya, terperosok oleh keserakahannya.
7 When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish; and the hope of evil [men] perisheth.
Bila orang jahat meninggal, harapannya pun mati; berharap kepada kekuatan sendiri tidak berarti.
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
Orang saleh terhindar dari kesukaran; orang jahat mendapat rintangan.
9 With his mouth a hypocrite destroyeth his neighbour; but through knowledge are the righteous delivered.
Percakapan orang jahat membinasakan; hikmat orang baik menyelamatkan.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth; and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
Kota semarak jika orang jujur mendapat rejeki; rakyat bersorak-sorai jika orang jahat mati.
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
Restu orang jujur memperindah kota; perkataan orang jahat merusakkannya.
12 He that despiseth his neighbour is void of heart; but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
Menghina orang lain adalah perbuatan yang dungu; orang yang berbudi, tidak akan mengatakan sesuatu pun.
13 He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
Penyebar kabar angin tak dapat memegang rahasia, tapi orang yang dapat dipercaya bisa merahasiakan perkara.
14 Where no advice is, the people fall; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Bangsa akan hancur jika tak ada pimpinan; semakin banyak penasihat, semakin terjamin keselamatan.
15 It goeth ill with him that is surety for another; but he that hateth suretyship is secure.
Berjanji membayar utang orang lain berarti mendatangkan celaka; lebih baik tidak terlibat dalam hal itu supaya aman.
16 A gracious woman retaineth honour; and the violent retain riches.
Wanita yang baik budi mendapat kehormatan; orang kejam mengumpulkan kekayaan.
17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul; but the cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Orang yang baik hati menguntungkan dirinya; orang yang kejam merugikan dirinya.
18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work; but he that soweth righteousness hath a sure reward.
Keuntungan orang jahat adalah keuntungan semu, keuntungan orang yang berbuat baik adalah keuntungan yang sejati.
19 As righteousness [tendeth] to life, so he that pursueth evil [doeth it] to his own death.
Siapa tekun berbuat baik, akan hidup bahagia; siapa berkeras untuk berbuat jahat menuju maut.
20 The perverse in heart are abomination to Jehovah; but they that are perfect in [their] way are his delight.
TUHAN membenci orang yang berhati jahat, tapi Ia mengasihi orang yang hidup tanpa cela.
21 Hand for hand! an evil [man] shall not be held innocent; but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
Orang jahat pasti mendapat hukuman; orang baik akan selamat.
22 A fair woman who is without discretion, is [as] a gold ring in a swine's snout.
Kecantikan wanita yang tak berbudi serupa cincin emas di hidung babi.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good; the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Keinginan orang baik selalu menghasilkan yang baik, tapi yang dapat diharapkan oleh orang jahat hanyalah kemarahan.
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is right, but [it tendeth] only to want.
Ada orang suka memberi, tapi bertambah kaya, ada yang suka menghemat, tapi bertambah miskin papa.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Orang yang banyak memberi akan berkelimpahan, orang yang suka menolong akan ditolong juga.
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people curse him; but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Siapa menimbun akan dikutuk orang, tetapi orang yang menjualnya mendapat pujian.
27 He that is earnest after good seeketh favour; but he that searcheth for mischief, it shall come upon him.
Siapa rajin berbuat baik akan disenangi orang; siapa mencari kejahatan, akan ditimpa kesukaran.
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a leaf.
Siapa mengandalkan harta akan jatuh seperti daun tua; orang yang saleh akan berkembang seperti tunas muda.
29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit wind; and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Orang yang menyusahkan rumah tangganya, akan kehilangan segala-galanya. Orang bodoh akan melayani orang yang bijaksana.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and the wise winneth souls.
Orang yang saleh akan terjamin hidupnya; orang yang bijaksana bertambah pengikutnya.
31 Behold, the righteous shall be requited on the earth: how much more the wicked and the sinner.
Jikalau di dunia ini orang baik pun akan menerima balasan, sudah pasti orang jahat dan berdosa akan mendapat hukuman.
