Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the warriors, and Johanan the son of Caree, and Jezonias the son of Osaias, and the rest of the people from the least to the greatest came near:

Entonces se acercaron todos los capitanes de las fuerzas, y Johanan, el hijo de Carea, y Jezania, el hijo de Osaias, y toda la gente de menor a mayor,

2 And they said to Jeremias the prophet: Let our supplication fall before thee: and pray thou for us to the Lord thy God for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as thy eyes do behold us.

Y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: Que nuestra petición venga ante ti, y ora por nosotros al Señor tu Dios, por todos nosotros los que quedamos; porque solo somos unos pocos de lo que fue un gran número, como puedes ver.

3 And let the Lord thy God shew us the way by which we may walk, and the thing that we must do.

Para que el Señor tu Dios nos aclare la manera en que debemos seguir y lo que debemos hacer.

4 And Jeremias the prophet said to them: I have heard you: behold I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words: and whatsoever thing he shall answer me, I will declare it to you: and I will hide nothing from you.

Entonces el profeta Jeremías les dijo: los he oído; Mira, haré oración al Señor tu Dios, como has dicho; y será que, sea lo que sea lo que el Señor diga en respuesta a ti, te daré una palabra de ello, sin guardar nada.

5 And they said to Jeremias: The Lord be witness between us of truth and faithfulness, if we do not according to every thing for which the Lord thy God shall send thee to us.

Entonces dijeron a Jeremías: Que el Señor sea un testigo fiel y verdadero contra nosotros de buena fe, si no hacemos todo lo que el Señor tu Dios te envía para decirnos.

6 Whether it be good or evil, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, to whom me send thee: that it may be well with us when we shall hearken to the voice of the Lord our God.

Si es bueno o si es malo, seremos guiados por la voz del Señor nuestro Dios, a quien te estamos enviando; para que nos vaya bien cuando escuchemos la voz del Señor nuestro Dios.

7 Now after ten days, the word of the Lord came to Jeremias.

Y sucedió que después de diez días la palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías.

8 And he called Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.

Y envió a buscar a Johanan, el hijo de Carea, y a todos los capitanes de las fuerzas que todavía estaban con él, y a toda la gente, desde los más pequeños hasta los más grandes,

9 And he said to them: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel, to whom you sent me, to present your supplications before him:

Y les dijo: Estas son las palabras del Señor, el Dios de Israel, a quien me enviaste para interceder por ustedes.

10 If you will be quiet and remain in this land, I will build you up, and not pull you down: I will plane you, and not pluck you up: for now I am appeased for the evil that I have done to you.

Si se quedan en esta tierra, los prosperaré y no derribaré, plantaré y no los arrancaré, estoy arrepentido del mal que les he hecho.

11 Fear not because of the king of Babylon, of whom you are greatly afraid: fear him not, saith the Lord: for I am with you, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

No tengan miedo del rey de Babilonia, de quien ahora tienen miedo; no le teman, dice el Señor, porque yo estoy contigo para protegerlos y librarlo de su poder.

12 And I will shew mercies to you, and will take pity on you, and will cause you to dwell in your own land.

Y tendré misericordia de ustedes, y haré que él tenga misericordia de ustedes y les permita regresar a su tierra.

13 But if you say: We will not dwell in this land, neither will we hearken to the voice of the Lord our God,

Pero si dicen: No tenemos ningún deseo de seguir viviendo en esta tierra; y no obedecen la voz del Señor su Dios,

14 Saying: No, but we will go into the land of Egypt: where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor suffer hunger: and there we will dwell.

Diciendo: No, pero iremos a la tierra de Egipto, donde no veremos la guerra, o escucharemos el sonido del cuerno, o necesitaremos comida; allí haremos nuestro lugar de vida;

15 For this now hear the word of the Lord, ye remnant of Juda: Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: If you set your faces to go into Egypt, and enter in to dwell there:

Ahora escucha la palabra del Señor, oh el último de Judá: el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho: Si tus mentes están fijadas en ir a Egipto y detenerse allí;

16 The sword which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt: and the famine, whereof you are afraid, shall cleave to you in Egypt, and there you shall die.

Entonces sucederá que la espada, que es la causa de tu temor, te alcanzará allí en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre, que temes, te perseguirá allí en Egipto; y allí morirán.

17 And all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt, to dwell there, shall die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence: none of them shall remain, nor escape from the face of the evil that I will bring upon them.

Tal será el destino de todos los hombres cuyas mentes están fijas en ir a Egipto y detenerse allí; llegarán a su fin con la espada, sin comida y con la enfermedad; ninguno de ellos se quedará con vida ni se librará del mal que les enviaré.

18 For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my indignation hath been kindled against the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so shall my indignation be kindled against you, when you shall enter into Egypt, and you shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach: and you shall see this place no more.

Porque esto es lo que ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Así como mi ira y mi furor se han desatado sobre la gente de Jerusalén, así se desatará mi furor cuando vayan a Egipto; y se convertirán en una maldición, espanto, imprecación y en una burla; y nunca volverán a ver este lugar.

19 This is the word of the Lord concerning you, O ye remnant of Juda: Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have adjured you this day.

El Señor ha dicho acerca de ti, oh el remanente de Judá, no vayas a Egipto; sépanlo bien que hoy se los he advertido.

20 For you have deceived your own souls: for you sent me to the Lord our God, saying: Pray for us to the Lord our God, and according to all that the Lord our God shall say to thee, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

Porque han estado actuando con engaño en sus corazones; porque me enviaste al Señor tu Dios, diciendo: ora por nosotros al Señor nuestro Dios, y danos una palabra de todo lo que él pueda decir, y lo haremos.

21 And now I have declared it to you this day, and; you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God, with regard to all the things for which he hath sent me to you.

Y hoy te lo he aclarado, y tú no has escuchado la voz del Señor tu Dios en nada por lo que me ha enviado.

22 Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence in the place to which you desire to go to dwell there.

Y ahora, ahora sepan bien de que llegarás al fin de tu vida con la espada, con hambre y enfermedad, en el lugar donde desean ir a residir.
