< Jonah 1 >

1 The worde of the Lord came also vnto Ionah the sonne of Amittai, saying,
Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ Jona ọmọ Amittai wá, wí pé:
2 Arise, and goe to Nineueh, that great citie, and crye against it: for their wickednesse is come vp before mee.
“Dìde lọ sí ìlú ńlá Ninefe kí o sì wàásù sí i, nítorí ìwà búburú rẹ̀ gòkè wá iwájú mi.”
3 But Ionah rose vp to flee into Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went downe to Iapho: and he founde a ship going to Tarshish: so he payed the fare thereof, and went downe into it, that he might go with them vnto Tarshish, from the presence of the Lord.
Ṣùgbọ́n Jona dìde kúrò láti sálọ sí Tarṣiṣi kúrò níwájú Olúwa, ó sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí Joppa, ìbí ti ó tí rí ọkọ̀ kan tí ń lọ sí Tarṣiṣi: lẹ́yìn ti ó sanwó ọkọ̀, ó wọlé sínú rẹ̀, láti bá wọn lọ sí Tarṣiṣi kúrò níwájú Olúwa.
4 But the Lord sent out a great winde into the sea, and there was a mightie tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
Nígbà náà ni Olúwa rán ìjì ńlá jáde sí ojú Òkun, ìjì líle sì wà nínú Òkun tó bẹ́ẹ̀ tí ọkọ̀ náà dàbí ẹni pé yóò fọ́.
5 Then the mariners were afraide, and cryed euery man vnto his God, and cast the wares that were in the ship, into the sea to lighten it of the: but Ionah was gone downe into the sides of the ship, and he lay downe, and was fast a sleepe.
Nígbà náà ni àwọn atukọ̀ bẹ̀rù, olúkúlùkù sì ń kígbe sí ọlọ́run rẹ̀, wọ́n kó ẹrù tí ó wà nínú ọkọ̀ dà sínú Òkun, kí ó bá à lè fúyẹ́. Ṣùgbọ́n Jona sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí ìsàlẹ̀ ọkọ̀ ó sì dùbúlẹ̀, ó sùn wọra.
6 So the shipmaster came to him, and saide vnto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise, call vpon thy God, if so be that God wil thinke vpon vs, that we perish not.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni olórí ọkọ̀ tọ̀ ọ́ wá, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi sùn, ìwọ olóòórùn? Dìde kí o ké pe Ọlọ́run rẹ! Bóyá yóò ro tiwa, kí àwa má ba à ṣègbé.”
7 And they saide euery one to his fellowe, Come, and let vs cast lottes, that we may know, for whose cause this euill is vpon vs. So they cast lottes, and the lot fell vpon Ionah.
Nígbà náà ni àwọn atukọ̀ sọ fún ara wọn pé, “Wá, ẹ jẹ́ kí a sẹ́ kèké, kí àwa kí o le mọ̀ nítorí ta ni búburú yìí ṣe wá sórí wa.” Wọ́n ṣẹ́ kèké, kèké sì mú Jona.
8 Then said they vnto him, Tell vs for whose cause this euill is vpon vs? what is thine occupation? and whence commest thou? which is thy countrey? and of what people art thou?
Nígbà náà ni wọn wí fún un pé, “Sọ fún wa, àwa bẹ̀ ọ́, nítorí ta ni búburú yìí ṣe wá sórí wa? Kí ni iṣẹ́ rẹ? Níbo ni ìwọ ti wá? Kí ni orúkọ ìlú rẹ? Ẹ̀yà orílẹ̀-èdè wo sì ni ìwọ sì í ṣe?”
9 And he answered them, I am an Ebrewe, and I feare the Lord God of heauen, which hath made the sea, and the dry lande.
Òun sì dá wọn lóhùn pé, “Heberu ni èmi, mo sì bẹ̀rù Olúwa, Ọlọ́run ọ̀run ẹni tí ó dá Òkun àti ìyàngbẹ ilẹ̀.”
10 Then were the men exceedingly afrayde, and said vnto him, Why hast thou done this? (for the men knewe, that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had tolde them)
Nígbà náà ni àwọn ọkùnrin náà bẹ̀rù gidigidi, wọn sì wí fún un pé, “Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi ṣe èyí?” (Nítorí àwọn ọkùnrin náà mọ̀ pé ó ń sá kúrò ní iwájú Olúwa ni, nítorí òun ti sọ fun wọn bẹ́ẹ̀).
11 Then saide they vnto him, What shall we doe vnto thee, that the sea may be calme vnto vs? (for the sea wrought and was troublous)
Nígbà náà ni wọ́n wí fún un pé, “Kí ni kí àwa ó ṣe sí ọ kí Òkun lè dákẹ́ fún wa?” Nítorí Òkun ru, ó sì ja ẹ̀fúùfù líle.
12 And he said vnto them, Take me, and cast me into the sea: so shall the sea be calme vnto you: for I knowe that for my sake this great tempest is vpon you.
Òun sì wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ gbé mi, kí ẹ sì sọ mi sínú Òkun, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni okun yóò sì dákẹ́ fún un yin. Nítorí èmi mọ̀ pé, nítorí mi ni ẹ̀fúùfù líle yìí ṣe dé bá a yín.”
13 Neuerthelesse, the men rowed to bring it to the lande, but they coulde not: for the sea wrought, and was troublous against them.
Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ọkùnrin náà gbìyànjú gidigidi láti mú ọkọ̀ wà sí ilẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò lè ṣe é: nítorí tí Òkun túbọ̀ ru sí i, ó sì ja ẹ̀fúùfù líle sí wọn.
14 Wherefore they cryed vnto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let vs not perish for this mans life, and lay not vpon vs innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done, as it pleased thee.
Nítorí náà wọ́n kígbe sí Olúwa, wọ́n sì wí pé, “Olúwa àwa bẹ̀ ọ́, má ṣe jẹ́ kí àwa ṣègbé nítorí ẹ̀mí ọkùnrin yìí. Má sì ka ẹ̀jẹ̀ aláìṣẹ̀ sí wa ní ọrùn, nítorí ìwọ, Olúwa, ti ṣe bí ó ti wù ọ́.”
15 So they tooke vp Ionah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from her raging.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n gbé Jona, tí wọ́n sì sọ ọ́ sínú Òkun, Òkun sì dẹ́kun ríru rẹ̀.
16 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice vnto the Lord, and made vowes.
Nígbà náà ni àwọn ọkùnrin náà bẹ̀rù Olúwa gidigidi, wọn si rú ẹbọ sí Olúwa, wọ́n sì jẹ́ ẹ̀jẹ́.
17 Nowe the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallowe vp Ionah: and Ionah was in the belly of the fish three dayes, and three nightes.
Ṣùgbọ́n Olúwa ti pèsè ẹja ńlá kan láti gbé Jona mì. Jona sì wà nínú ẹja náà ni ọ̀sán mẹ́ta àti òru mẹ́ta.
