Nehemiah 13

1 And on that day did they reade in the booke of Moses, in the audience of the people, and it was found written therein, that the Ammonite, and the Moabite should not enter into the Congregation of God,

En aquel tiempo, con motivo de la lectura del Libro de Moisés delante del pueblo, hallaron escrito allí que los ammonitas y los moabitas no habían de entrar jamás en la congregación de Dios;

2 Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: and our God turned the curse into a blessing.

porque no fueron al encuentro de los hijos de Israel con pan y agua, antes bien sobornaron contra ellos a Balaam, para que los maldijera, aunque nuestro Dios trocó la maldición en bendición.

3 Now when they had heard the Lawe, they separated from Israel all those that were mixed.

Cuando oyeron esta ley, separaron de Israel a todos los extranjeros.

4 And before this had the Priest Eliashib the ouersight of the chamber of the house of our God, being kinsman to Tobiah:

Antes de esto, el sacerdote Eliasib, intendente de las cámaras de la Casa de Dios y pariente cercano de Tobías,

5 And he had made him a great chamber and there had they aforetime layde the offringes, the incense, and the vessels, and the tithes of corne, of wine, and of oyle (appointed for the Leuites, and the singers, and the porters) and the offringes of the Priests.

había hecho para este un gran aposento donde antes se depositaban las ofrendas, el incienso, los utensilios, los diezmos del trigo, del vino y del aceite, la porción legal de los levitas, cantores y porteros, y las ofrendas para los sacerdotes.

6 But in all this time was not I in Ierusalem: for in the two and thirtieth yere of Artahshashte King of Babel, came I vnto the King, and after certaine dayes I obteined of the King.

En todo ese tiempo yo no estaba en Jerusalén; porque el año treinta y dos de Artajerjes, rey de Babilonia, volví al rey. Mas pasado cierto tiempo, pedí licencia al rey,

7 And when I was come to Ierusalem, I vnderstood the euil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, in that hee had made him a chamber in the court of the house of God,

y vine a Jerusalén, donde supe el mal que había hecho Eliasib, en favor de Tobías, haciéndole un aposento en los atrios de la Casa de Dios.

8 And it grieued me sore: therefore I cast forth all the vessels of the house of Tobiah out of the chamber.

Tuve gran pena, y eché fuera de la cámara todos los muebles de la habitación de Tobías.

9 And I commanded them to clense ye chambers: and thither brought I againe the vessels of the house of God with the meate offring and the incense.

Después mandé que purificasen las cámaras, y volví a poner allí los utensilios de la Casa de Dios, las ofrendas y el incienso.

10 And I perceiued that the portions of the Leuites had not bene giuen, and that euery one was fled to his lande, euen the Leuites and singers that executed the worke.

Supe también que los levitas no habían recibido las porciones, y que tanto los levitas como los cantores, que hacían el servicio, se habían huido cada cual a su campo.

11 Then reproued I the rulers and sayd, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I assembled them, and set them in their place.

Por eso disputé con los magistrados, y dije: “¿Por qué se ha abandonado la Casa de Dios?” Y reuní a los (fugitivos) y los restablecí en su puesto.

12 Then brought all Iudah the tithes of corne and of wine, and of oyle vnto the treasures.

Entonces todo Judá trajo el diezmo del trigo, del vino y del aceite a los almacenes,

13 And I made treasurers ouer the treasures, Shelemiah the Priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Leuites, Pedaiah, and vnder their hande Hanan the sonne of Zaccur the sonne of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithfull, and their office was to distribute vnto their brethren.

cuya administración confié a Selemías sacerdote, a Sadoc escriba y a Fedaías, uno de los levitas, a cuyo lado estaba Hanán, hijo de Zacur, hijo de Matanías; porque ellos tenían fama de ser fieles y era de su cargo repartir las porciones entre sus hermanos.

14 Remember me, O my God, herein, and wipe not out my kindenes that I haue shewed on the house of my God, and on the offices thereof.

¡Acuérdate por esto de mí, oh Dios mío, y no borres mis obras piadosas que he hecho por la Casa de mi Dios y por su culto!

15 In those dayes saw I in Iudah them, that trode wine presses on ye Sabbath, and that brought in sheaues, and which laded asses also with wine, grapes, and figges, and all burdens, and brought them into Ierusalem vpon the Sabbath day: and I protested to them in the day that they sold vitailes.

En aquellos días vi en Judá que algunos pisaban los lagares en sábado, traían gavillas, ponían cargas sobre los asnos, también vino, uvas e higos, y toda suerte de cargas que introducían en Jerusalén en día de sábado. Les hice una advertencia en el mismo día en que vendían los productos.

16 There dwelt men of Tyrus also therein, which brought fish and all wares, and solde on the Sabbath vnto the children of Iudah euen in Ierusalem.

Del mismo modo los tirios que vivían en (Jerusalén) traían pescado y toda suerte de mercaderías, vendiéndolas en sábado a los hijos de Judá y en Jerusalén.

17 Then reprooued I the rulers of Iudah, and sayd vnto them, What euil thing is this that yee doe, and breake the Sabbath day?

Por lo cual reprendí a los magistrados de Judá, y les dije: “¿Qué acción mala es esta que hacéis, profanando así el sábado?

18 Did not your fathers thus, and our God brought all this plague vpon vs, and vpon this citie? yet yee increase the wrath vpon Israel, in breaking the Sabbath.

¿No hicieron esto nuestros padres, y por eso nuestro Dios hizo venir este mal sobre nosotros y sobre esta ciudad? Vosotros estáis acumulando ira contra Israel, profanando el sábado.”

19 And when the gates of Ierusalem beganne to be darke before the Sabbath, I commaded to shut the gates, and charged, that they should not be opened til after the Sabbath, and some of my seruants set I at the gates, that there shoulde no burden be brought in on the Sabbath day.

Entonces al caer la obscuridad sobre las puertas de Jerusalén, antes del sábado, mandé que se cerraran las puertas, y que no fueran abiertas hasta después del sábado; y aposté a algunos de mis criados a las puertas, para que no entrase carga alguna en día de sábado.

20 So the chapmen and marchants of al marchandise remained once or twise all night without Ierusalem.

Así los negociantes y vendedores de toda clase de mercadería pasaron la noche una o dos veces fuera de Jerusalén.

21 And I protested among them, and said vnto them, Why tary ye all night about the wall? If ye do it once againe, I will lay hands vpon you. from that time came they no more on the Sabbath.

Yo les hice advertencia y les dije: “¿Por qué pasáis la noche delante del muro? Si otra vez lo hacéis, voy a prenderos.” Desde entonces no vinieron más en sábado.

22 And I sayde vnto the Leuites, that they should clense themselues, and that they shoulde come and keepe the gates, to sanctifie the Sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and pardon me according to thy great mercy.

Mandé también a los levitas que se purificasen, y viniesen a guardar las puertas, a fin de santificar el día de sábado. ¡Acuérdate de mí, oh Dios mío, también por esto, y ten piedad de mí según tu gran misericordia!

23 In those dayes also I saw Iewes that married wiues of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab.

En ese mismo tiempo vi también a judíos que habían tomado mujeres asdoditas, ammonitas y moabitas.

24 And their children spake halfe in ye speach of Ashdod, and could not speake in the Iewes language, and according to the language of the one people, and of the other people.

Sus hijos hablaban medio asdodeo y no sabían hablar judío, sino que seguían el lenguaje de uno y otro pueblo.

25 Then I reprooued them, and cursed them, and smote certaine of them, and pulled off their heare, and tooke an othe of them by God, Yee shall not giue your daughters vnto their sonnes, neither shall ye take of their daughters vnto your sonnes, nor for your selues.

Yo los reprendí y los maldije; golpeé a algunos de ellos y les arranqué el cabello, y los conjuré por Dios (diciendo): “No deis vuestras hijas a los hijos de ellos, ni toméis sus hijas para vuestros hijos ni para vosotros.

26 Did not Salomon the king of Israel sinne by these thinges? yet among many nations was there no King like him: for he was beloued of his God, and God had made him King ouer Israel: yet strange women caused him to sinne.

¿No pecó en esto mismo Salomón, rey de Israel? Y sin embargo, entre todas las naciones no hubo rey como él; era amado de su Dios y Dios le hizo rey sobre todo Israel; y con todo aun a él le hicieron prevaricar las mujeres extranjeras.

27 Shall wee then obey vnto you, to doe all this great euil, and to transgresse against our God, euen to marry strange wiues?

¿Hemos acaso de acomodarnos a vosotros, que hacéis esta tan grande maldad de pecar contra nuestro Dios, tomando mujeres extranjeras?”

28 And one of the sonnes of Ioiada the sonne of Eliashib the hie Priest was the sonne in law of Sanballat the Horonite: but I chased him from me.

Uno de los hijos de Joiadá, hijo de Eliasib, Sumo Sacerdote, era yerno de Sanballat horonita: por eso le eché de mi presencia.

29 Remember them, O my God, that defile the Priesthoode, and the couenant of the Priesthoode, and of the Leuites.

¡Ácuérdate de ellos, oh Dios mío, para castigarlos por las profanaciones del sacerdocio y del pacto del sacerdocio y de los levitas!

30 Then cleansed I them from all strangers, and appoynted the wardes of the Priestes and of the Leuites, euery one in his office,

De esta manera los limpié de todo lo extranjero, ordenando las funciones de los sacerdotes y de los levitas, de cada uno según su ministerio,

31 And for the offring of the wood at times appoynted, and for the first fruites. Remember me, O my God, in goodnes.

y también lo que se refiere a la ofrenda de la leña en los tiempos determinados, y lo tocante a las primicias. ¡Acuérdate de mí, oh Dios mío, para (mi) bien!
