Nehemiah 2
1 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
Vào tháng Ni-san năm thứ hai mươi triều Ạt-ta-xét-xe, một hôm tôi đang dâng rượu cho vua,
2 Why the king said to me, Why is your countenance sad, seeing you are not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,
vua hỏi: “Sao mặt ngươi buồn rười rượi như thế? Ngươi không đau ốm chứ? Hay là ngươi có điều sầu muộn trong lòng?” Từ trước đến nay, tôi chưa hề tỏ vẻ phiền muộn trước mặt vua bao giờ. Tôi sợ quá,
3 And said to the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchers, lies waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
thưa: “Vua vạn tuế! Tôi không buồn sao được khi quê cha đất tổ trở nên hoang tàn, cổng thành bị thiêu hủy.”
4 Then the king said to me, For what do you make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.
Vua hỏi: “Ngươi muốn xin điều gì?” Tôi vội cầu nguyện thầm với Đức Chúa Trời trên trời,
5 And I said to the king, If it please the king, and if your servant have found favor in your sight, that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ sepulchers, that I may build it.
rồi đáp: “Nếu vua vừa ý, và nếu tôi được vua đoái thương, xin sai tôi về Giu-đa để xây lại thành có mồ mả của tổ tiên tôi.”
6 And the king said to me, (the queen also sitting by him, ) For how long shall your journey be? and when will you return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
Lúc ấy có hoàng hậu ngồi bên cạnh, vua hỏi: “Ngươi đi bao lâu? Chừng nào trở lại?” Tôi định thời hạn, và vua bằng lòng cho tôi đi.
7 Moreover I said to the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;
Tôi lại nói: “Nếu vua vừa ý, xin giao cho tôi những bức thư vua viết cho các tổng trấn bên kia Sông Cái cho phép tôi đi qua đất họ trên đường về Giu-đa.
8 And a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God on me.
Và một thư gửi A-sáp, người cai quản rừng hoàng gia, truyền người cho tôi gỗ để làm cổng đồn bên Đền Thờ, làm tường thành, và làm nhà cho tôi tạm trú.” Nhờ Đức Chúa Trời giúp đỡ, vua chấp thuận mọi điều tôi thỉnh cầu.
9 Then I came to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.
Khi đến các tỉnh phía tây Sông Ơ-phơ-rát, tôi trao chiếu chỉ vua cho các tổng trấn. Vua cũng có sai một toán kỵ binh và các quan chỉ huy đi theo tôi.
10 When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
Nhưng San-ba-lát, người Hô-rôn và Tô-bia, là đầy tớ Am-môn, nghe tôi đến thì tỏ vẻ rất bất bình, vì thấy có người muốn giúp cho Ít-ra-ên hưng thịnh.
11 So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
Đến Giê-ru-sa-lem được ba ngày,
12 And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode on.
giữa đêm, tôi và vài người thức dậy. Tôi chẳng tiết lộ với ai chương trình Đức Chúa Trời đặt vào lòng tôi để thực hiện tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Tôi cưỡi lừa, còn những người khác đi bộ.
13 And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.
Trong bóng đêm, chúng tôi ra Cổng Thung Lũng, đi về hướng Giếng Chó Rừng, đến Cổng Phân để quan sát tường thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đổ nát và cổng thành bị đốt cháy.
14 Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
Rồi chúng tôi đến Cổng Suối và Ao Vua, nhưng con lừa tôi cưỡi không đi qua được.
15 Then went I up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall, and turned back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned.
Vì thế, chúng tôi leo lên dọc bờ suối để tiếp tục quan sát tường thành, rồi quay lại, vào Cổng Thung Lũng, đoạn trở về. Lúc ấy trời vẫn chưa sáng.
16 And the rulers knew not where I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work.
Chính quyền không biết gì về việc tôi đi quan sát đêm ấy, vì tôi không tiết lộ việc này với ai cả, dù với người Do Thái, thầy tế lễ, quý tộc, chính quyền, ngay cả những người sẽ cộng tác trong việc này.
17 Then said I to them, You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
Về sau, tôi nói với họ: “Anh em biết rõ tình trạng kinh thành hiện nay. Giê-ru-sa-lem đổ nát hoang tàn; cổng thành cháy thiêu. Nào, chúng ta cùng nhau xây lại vách thành để khỏi mang tủi nhục.”
18 Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good on me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken to me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
Tôi cũng thuật lại cho họ cách Đức Chúa Trời phù hộ việc tôi thỉnh cầu vua. Mọi người tán đồng việc phân công xây lại vách thành, và chuẩn bị bắt tay vào việc.
19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that you do? will you rebel against the king?
Khi San-ba-lát, người Hô-rôn, Tô-bia người Am-môn, bề tôi triều đình, và Ghê-sem, người A-rập nghe được việc này, liền chế giễu: “Các ông định làm gì thế? Định phản vua phải không?”
20 Then answered I them, and said to them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but you have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
Tôi đáp: “Chúng tôi sẽ xây lại thành này, và Đức Chúa Trời trên trời sẽ cho chúng tôi là các đầy tớ Ngài thành công. Còn các ông chẳng liên hệ gì đến Giê-ru-sa-lem cả.”
