Ezra 5

1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that [were] in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, [even] unto them.

Es weissagten aber der Prophet Haggai und der Prophet Sacharja, der Sohn Iddos, den Judäern in Juda und Jerusalem im Namen des Gottes Israels, der über ihnen waltete.

2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which [is] at Jerusalem: and with them [were] the prophets of God helping them.

Da gingen Serubabel, der Sohn Sealthïels, und Jesua, der Sohn Jozadaks, daran, den Bau des Tempels Gottes zu Jerusalem zu beginnen, und mit ihnen waren die Propheten Gottes und unterstützten sie.

3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar-boznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?

Zu der Zeit kamen zu ihnen Thathnai, der Statthalter des Gebiets jenseits des Stroms, und Sthar Bosnai und ihre Genossen und sprachen also zu ihnen: Wer hat euch Erlaubnis gegeben, diesen Tempel zu bauen und diese Mauern zu vollenden?

4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

Sodann sprachen sie also zu ihnen: Welches sind die Namen der Männer, die diesen Bau ausführen?

5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this [matter].

Aber das Auge ihres Gottes wachte über den Vornehmen der Juden, so daß man ihnen nicht Einhalt that, bis die Angelegenheit an Darius gelangt, und der schriftliche Bescheid darüber zurückgekommen sein würde. -

6 The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar-boznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, which [were] on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:

Inhalt des Briefs, den Thathnai, der Statthalter des Gebiets jenseits des Stroms, und Sthar Bosnai und seine Genossen, die Apharsechäer, die in dem Gebiete jenseits des Stroms wohnten, an den König Darius sandten, -

7 They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.

Bericht sandten sie an ihn und also stand darin geschrieben -: “Dem Könige Darius alles Heil!

8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

Kund sei dem Könige, daß wir uns nach der Provinz Juda zum Tempel des großen Gottes begeben haben; derselbe wird aus Quadersteinen erbaut, und Gebälk in seine Wände eingesetzt, und diese Arbeit wird mit Eifer betrieben und geht unter ihren Händen gut von statten.

9 Then asked we those elders, [and] said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

Da haben wir ihre Vornehmen gefragt - folgendermaßen sprachen wir zu ihnen: Wer hat euch Erlaubnis gegeben, diesen Tempel zu bauen und diese Mauern zu vollenden?

10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that [were] the chief of them.

Und auch nach ihren Namen fragten wir sie, um dich in Kenntnis zu setzen, indem wir dir die Namen der Männer schrieben, die an ihrer Spitze stehen.

11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

Und folgendermaßen gaben sie uns Bescheid: Wir sind Knechte des Gottes des Himmels und der Erde und bauen den Tempel wieder auf, der viele Jahre vor unserer Zeit gebaut war, indem ihn ein großer König von Israel gebaut und vollendet hat.

12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

Weil jedoch unsere Väter den Gott des Himmels erzürnt hatten, gab er sie in die Gewalt Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel, des Chaldäers; der hat diesen Tempel zerstört und das Volk nach Babel weggeführt.

13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon [the same] king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.

Aber im ersten Jahres des Cyrus, des Königs von Babel, gab der König Cyrus Erlaubnis, diesen Tempel Gottes wieder aufzubauen.

14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that [was] in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto [one], whose name [was] Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

Auch die goldenen und silbernen Geräte des Tempels Gottes, die Nebukadnezar aus dem Tempel in Jerusalem weggeführt und in den Tempel zu Babel gebracht hatte, gab der König Cyrus aus dem Tempel zu Babel heraus, und sie wurden dem von ihm eingesetzten Statthalter Namens Sesbazar übergeben.

15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that [is] in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

Und er gebot ihm: Nimm diese Geräte, ziehe hin und lege sie im Tempel zu Jerusalem nieder; und der Tempel Gottes soll wieder aufgebaut werden an seiner früheren Stelle.

16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, [and] laid the foundation of the house of God which [is] in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and [yet] it is not finished.

Alsdann kam dieser Sesbazar, legte den Grund zum Tempel Gottes in Jerusalem, und seit dieser Zeit und bis jetzt baut man daran, und noch ist er nicht vollendet.

17 Now therefore, if [it seem] good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which [is] there at Babylon, whether it be [so], that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

Und nun, wenn es dem Könige recht ist, möge man im königlichen Schatzhause dort in Babel nachforschen, ob es sich so verhält, daß vom König Cyrus die Erlaubnis erteilt worden ist, diesen Tempel Gottes zu Jerusalem zu bauen; und der König wolle uns seine Willensmeinung in dieser Sache zukommen lassen.”
