Joel 1

1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

Palavra do Senhor, que foi dirigida a Joel, filho de Pethuel.

2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

Ouvi isto, vós, anciãos, e escutai, todos os moradores da terra: Porventura isto aconteceu em vossos dias? ou também nos dias de vossos pais?

3 Tell ye your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation.

Fazei sobre isto uma narração a vossos filhos, e vossos filhos a seus filhos, e os filhos destes à outra geração.

4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

O que ficou da lagarta o comeu o gafanhoto, e o que ficou do gafanhoto o comeu a locusta, e o que ficou da locusta o comeu o pulgão.

5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

Despertai-vos, bêbados, e chorai e uivai, todos os que bebeis vinho, por causa do mosto, porque cortado é da vossa boca.

6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth [are] the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

Porque uma nação subiu sobre a minha terra, poderosa e sem número: os seus dentes são dentes de leão, e tem queixais de um leão velho.

7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast [it] away; the branches thereof are made white.

Fez da minha vide uma assolação, e descortiçou a minha figueira: despiu-a toda, e a lançou por terra; os seus sarmentos se embranqueceram.

8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

Lamenta como uma virgem que está cingida de saco, pelo marido da sua mocidade.

9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’s ministers, mourn.

Cortou-se a oferta de manjar, e a libação da casa do Senhor: os sacerdotes, servos do Senhor, estão entristecidos.

10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

O campo está assolado, e a terra triste; porque o trigo está destruído, o mosto se secou, o óleo falta.

11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

Os lavradores se envergonham, os vinhateiros uivam, sobre o trigo e sobre a cevada; porque a sega do campo pereceu.

12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, [even] all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

A vide se secou, a figueira se murchou; a romeira, também, e a palmeira e a macieira; todas as árvores do campo se secaram, e a alegria se secou entre os filhos dos homens.

13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

Cingi-vos e lamentai-vos, sacerdotes; uivai, ministros do altar; entrai e passai, vestidos de sacos, a noite, ministros do meu Deus; porque a oferta de manjares, e a libação, afastada está da casa de vosso Deus.

14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders [and] all the inhabitants of the land [into] the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

Santificai um jejum, apregoai um dia de proibição, congregai os anciãos, e todos os moradores desta terra, na casa do Senhor vosso Deus, e clamai ao Senhor.

15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD [is] at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Ah! aquele dia! porque o dia do Senhor está perto, e virá como uma assolação do Todo-poderoso.

16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, [yea], joy and gladness from the house of our God?

Porventura o mantimento não está cortado de diante de nossos olhos? a alegria e o regozijo da casa de nosso Deus?

17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

A novidade apodreceu debaixo dos seus torrões, os celeiros foram assolados, os armazéns derribados, porque se secou o trigo.

18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

Como geme o gado, as manadas de vacas estão confusas, porque não tem pasto: também os rebanhos de ovelhas são destruídos.

19 O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

A ti, ó Senhor clamo, porque o fogo consumiu os pastos do deserto, e a chama abrazou todas as árvores do campo.

20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Também todas as bestas do campo bramam a ti; porque os rios de água se secaram, e o fogo consumiu os pastos do deserto.
