Proverbs 27

1 Boast not of to-morrow; for you know not what the next day shall bring forth.

भावी कल तुम्हारे गर्व का विषय न हो, क्योंकि तुम यह नहीं जानते कि दिन में क्या घटनेवाला है.

2 Let your neighbor, and not your own mouth, praise you; a stranger, and not your own lips.

कोई अन्य तुम्हारी प्रशंसा करे तो करे, तुम स्वयं न करना; कोई अन्य कोई अपरिचित तुम्हारी प्रशंसा करे तो करे, तुम स्वयं न करना, स्वयं अपने मुख से नहीं.

3 A stone is heavy, and sand cumbersome; but a fool's wrath is heavier than both.

पत्थर भारी होता है और रेत का भी बोझ होता है, किंतु इन दोनों की अपेक्षा अधिक भारी होता है मूर्ख का क्रोध.

4 Wrath is merciless, and anger sharp: but envy can bear nothing.

कोप में क्रूरता निहित होती है तथा रोष में बाढ़ के समान उग्रता, किंतु ईर्ष्या के समक्ष कौन ठहर सकता है?

5 Open reproofs are better than secret love.

छिपे प्रेम से कहीं अधिक प्रभावशाली है प्रत्यक्ष रूप से दी गई फटकार.

6 The wounds of a friend are more to be trusted than the spontaneous kisses of an enemy.

मित्र द्वारा किए गए घाव भी विश्वासयोग्य है, किंतु विरोधी चुम्बनों की वर्षा करता है!

7 A full soul scorns honeycombs; but to a hungry soul even bitter things appear sweet.

जब भूख अच्छी रीति से तृप्‍त की जा चुकी है, तब मधु भी अप्रिय लगने लगता है, किंतु अत्यंत भूखे व्यक्ति के लिए कड़वा भोजन भी मीठा हो जाता है.

8 As when a bird flies down from its own nest, so a man is brought into bondage whenever he estranges himself from his own place.

अपने घर से दूर चला गया व्यक्ति वैसा ही होता है जैसे अपने घोंसले से भटक चुका पक्षी.

9 The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes: but the soul is broken by calamities.

तेल और सुगंध द्रव्य हृदय को मनोहर कर देते हैं, उसी प्रकार सुखद होता है खरे मित्र का परामर्श.

10 Your own friend, and your father's friend, forsake not; and when you are in distress go not into your brother's house: better is a friend [that is] near than a brother living far off.

अपने मित्र तथा अपने माता-पिता के मित्र की उपेक्षा न करना. अपनी विपत्ति की स्थिति में अपने भाई के घर भेंट करने न जाना. दूर देश में जा बसे तुम्हारे भाई से उत्तम है तुम्हारे निकट निवास कर रहा पड़ोसी.

11 Son, be wise, that your heart may rejoice; and remove you from yourself reproachful words.

मेरे पुत्र, कैसा मनोहर होगा मेरा हृदय, जब तुम स्वयं को बुद्धिमान प्रमाणित करोगे; तब मैं अपने निंदकों को मुंह तोड़ प्रत्युत्तर दे सकूंगा.

12 A wise man, when evils are approaching, hides himself; but fools pass on, and will be punished.

चतुर व्यक्ति जोखिम को देखकर छिप जाता है, किंतु अज्ञानी आगे ही बढ़ता जाता है, और यातना सहता है.

13 Take away the man's garment, (for a scorner has passed by) whoever lays waste another's goods.

जो किसी अनजान के ऋण की ज़मानत देता है, वह अपने वस्त्र तक गंवा बैठता है; जब कोई अनजान व्यक्तियों की ज़मानत लेने लगे, तब प्रतिभूति सुरक्षा में उसका वस्त्र भी रख ले.

14 Whosoever shall bless a friend in the morning with a loud voice, shall seem to differ nothing from one who curses [him].

यदि किसी व्यक्ति को प्रातःकाल में अपने पड़ोसी को उच्च स्वर में आशीर्वाद देता हुआ सुनो, तो उसे शाप समझना.

15 On a stormy day drops [of rain] drive a man out of his house; so also does a railing woman [drive a man] out of his own house.

विवादी पत्नी तथा वर्षा ऋतु में लगातार वृष्टि, दोनों ही समान हैं,

16 The north wind is sharp, but it is called by name propitious.

उसे नियंत्रित करने का प्रयास पवन वेग को नियंत्रित करने का प्रयास जैसा, अथवा अपने दायें हाथ से तेल को पकड़ने का प्रयास जैसा.

17 Iron sharpens iron; and a man sharpens his friend's countenance.

जिस प्रकार लोहे से ही लोहे पर धार बनाया जाता है, वैसे ही एक व्यक्ति दूसरे के सुधार के लिए होते है.

18 He that plants a fig tree shall eat the fruits of it: so he that waits on his own master shall be honored.

अंजीर का फल वही खाता है, जो उस वृक्ष की देखभाल करता है, वह, जो अपने स्वामी का ध्यान रखता है, सम्मानित किया जाएगा.

19 As faces are not like [other] faces, so neither are the thoughts of men.

जिस प्रकार जल में मुखमंडल की छाया देख सकते हैं, वैसे ही व्यक्ति का जीवन भी हृदय को प्रतिबिंबित करता है.

20 Hell and destruction are not filled; so also are the eyes of men insatiable. [He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord; and the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue.] (Sheol h7585)

मृत्यु और विनाश अब तक संतुष्ट नहीं हुए हैं, मनुष्य की आंखों की अभिलाषा भी कभी संतुष्ट नहीं होती. (Sheol h7585)

21 Fire is the trial for silver and gold; and a man is tried by the mouth of them that praise him. The heart of the transgressor seeks after mischiefs; but an upright heart seeks knowledge.

चांदी की परख कुठाली से तथा स्वर्ण की भट्टी से होती है, वैसे ही मनुष्य की परख उसकी प्रशंसा से की जाती है.

22 Though you scourge a fool, disgracing him in the midst of the council, you will [still] in no wise remove his folly from him.

यदि तुम मूर्ख को ओखली में डालकर मूसल से अनाज के समान भी कूटो, तुम उससे उसकी मूर्खता को अलग न कर सकोगे.

23 Do you thoroughly know the number of your flock, and pay attention to your herds.

अनिवार्य है कि तुम्हें अपने पशुओं की स्थिति का यथोचित ज्ञान हो, अपने पशुओं का ध्यान रखो;

24 For a man [has] not strength and power for ever; neither does he transmit it from generation to generation.

क्योंकि, न तो धन-संपत्ति चिरकालीन होती है, और न यह कहा जा सकता है कि राजपाट आगामी सभी पीढ़ियों के लिए सुनिश्चित हो गया.

25 Take care of the herbage in the field, and you shall cut grass, and gather the mountain hay;

जब सूखी घास एकत्र की जा चुकी हो और नई घास अंकुरित हो रही हो, जब पर्वतों से जड़ी-बूटी एकत्र की जाती है,

26 that you may have [wool of] sheep for clothing: pay attention to the land, that you may have lambs.

तब मेमनों से तुम्हारे वस्त्रों की आवश्यकता की पूर्ति होगी, और तुम बकरियों के मूल्य से खेत मोल ले सकोगे,

27 [My] son, you have from me words very useful for your life, and for the life of your servants.

बकरियों के दूध इतना भरपूर होगा कि वह तुम्हारे संपूर्ण परिवार के लिए पर्याप्‍त भोजन रहेगा; तुम्हारी सेविकाओं की ज़रूरत भी पूर्ण होती रहेगी.
