1 Samuel 17
1 And the Philistines gathered together their camps to battle, and they gathered themselves together at Sochoh, which belongeth to Judah; and they encamped between Sochoh and 'Azekah, at Ephess-dammim.
Die Philister sammelten ihre Heere zum Streit und kamen zusammen zu Socho in Juda und lagerten sich zwischen Socho und Aseka, am Ende Damim.
2 And Saul and the men of Israel gathered themselves together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and put themselves in battle-array opposite to the Philistines.
Aber Saul und die Männer Israels kamen zusammen und lagerten sich im Eichgrunde; und rüsteten sich zum Streit gegen die Philister.
3 And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and the Israelites stood on a mountain on the other side: and the valley was between them.
Und die Philister stunden auf einem Berge jenseits und die Israeliten auf einem Berge diesseits, daß ein Tal zwischen ihnen war.
4 And there went out the champion out of the camp of the Philistines, Goliath of Gath was his name, whose height was six cubits and a span.
Da trat hervor aus den Lagern der Philister ein Riese mit Namen Goliath von Gath, sechs Ellen und einer Hand breit hoch;
5 And he had a helmet of copper upon his head, and he was clothed with a scaly coat of mail; and the weight of the coat of mail was five thousand shekels of copper.
und hatte einen ehernen Helm auf seinem Haupt und einen schuppichten Panzer an, und das Gewicht seines Panzers war fünftausend Sekel Erzes;
6 And he had greaves of copper upon his legs, and a javelin of copper between his shoulders.
und hatte eherne Beinharnische an seinen Schenkeln und einen ehernen Schild auf seinen Schultern.
7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and the blade of his spear [weighed] six hundred shekels of iron: and the shield-bearer was walking before him.
Und der Schaft seines Spießes war wie ein Weberbaum und das Eisen seines Spießes hatte sechshundert Sekel Eisens und sein Schildträger ging vor ihm her.
8 And he stood and calleth unto the arrays of Israel, and said unto them, Why will ye come out to put yourselves in battle-array? Behold: I am the Philistine, and ye are servants to Saul! select for yourselves one man, and let him come down to me;
Und er stund und rief zu dem Zeuge Israels und sprach zu ihnen: Was seid ihr ausgezogen, euch zu rüsten in einen Streit? Bin ich nicht ein Philister und ihr Sauls Knechte? Erwählet einen unter euch, der zu mir herabkomme!
9 If he be able to fight with me, and he kill me, then will we be unto you as servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be unto us as servants, and ye shall serve us.
Vermag er wider mich zu streiten, und schlägt mich, so wollen wir eure Knechte sein; vermag ich aber wider ihn und schlage ihn, so sollt ihr unsere Knechte sein, daß ihr uns dienet.
10 And the Philistine said, I have defied the arrays of Israel this day; give me a man, and let us fight together.
Und der Philister sprach: Ich habe heutigestages dem Zeuge Israels Hohn gesprochen; gebt mir einen und laßt uns miteinander streiten!
11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were disheartened, and became greatly afraid.
Da Saul und ganz Israel diese Rede des Philisters höreten, entsetzten sie sich und fürchteten sich sehr.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lechem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was old in the days of Saul, belonging to the persons [of high esteem].
David aber war eines ephrathischen Mannes Sohn, von Bethlehem-Juda, der hieß Isai, der hatte acht Söhne und war ein alter Mann zu Sauls Zeiten und war betagt unter den Männern.
13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse were gone following Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that were gone to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and the next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
Und die drei größten Söhne Isais waren mit Saul in Streit gezogen und hießen mit Namen: Eliab, der erstgeborne, Abinadab, der andere, und Samma, der dritte.
14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
David aber war der jüngste. Da aber die drei ältesten mit Saul in den Krieg zogen,
15 But David kept going and returning from Saul to feed his father's flocks at Beth-lechem.
ging David wiederum von Saul, daß er der Schafe seines Vaters hütete zu Bethlehem.
16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
Aber der Philister trat herzu frühe morgens und abends und stellete sich dar vierzig Tage.
17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take, I pray thee, for thy brothers an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brothers;
Isai aber sprach zu seinem Sohn David: Nimm für deine Brüder diese Epha Sangen und diese zehn Brote und lauf in das Heer zu deinen Brüdern,
18 And these ten cheeses shalt thou bring unto the captain of the thousand, and inquire of thy brothers how they fare, and take away their pledge.
und diese zehn frischen Käse, und bringe sie dem Hauptmann; und besuche deine Brüder, ob's ihnen wohlgehe, und nimm, was sie dir befehlen.
19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
Saul aber und sie und alle Männer Israels waren im Eichgrunde und stritten wider die Philister.
20 And David rose up early in the morning, and gave up the flocks to a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the entrenchment, as the host was going forth in battle-array, and shouted the battle-cry.
Da machte sich David des Morgens frühe auf und ließ die Schafe dem Hüter und trug und ging hin, wie ihm Isai geboten hatte, und kam zur Wagenburg. Und das Heer war ausgezogen und hatte sich gerüstet, und schrieen im Streit.
21 And the Israelites and the Philistines put themselves in battle-array, army against army.
Denn Israel hatte sich gerüstet, so waren die Philister wider ihren Zeug auch gerüstet
22 And David left the articles which he had on him in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran into the array, and came and asked of his brothers after their welfare.
Da ließ David das Gefäß, das er trug, unter dem Hüter der Gefäße und lief zu dem Zeuge; und ging hinein und grüßte seine Brüder.
23 And as he was speaking with them, behold, there came up the champion, Goliath the Philistine, by name, of Gath, out of the battle-arrays of the Philistines, and spoke in accordance with these same words: and David heard it.
Und da er noch mit ihnen redete, siehe, da trat herauf der Riese mit Namen Goliath, der Philister von Gath, aus der Philister Zeug und redete wie vorhin; und David hörete es.
24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from before him, and were greatly afraid.
Aber jedermann in Israel, wenn er den Mann sah, floh er vor ihm und fürchtete sich sehr.
25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is coming forth? for to defy Israel is he coming forth; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, —him will the king enrich with great riches, and his daughter will he give him, and his father's house will he make free in Israel.
Und jedermann in Israel sprach: Habt ihr den Mann gesehen herauftreten? Denn er ist heraufgetreten, Israel Hohn zu sprechen. Und wer ihn schlägt, den will der König sehr reich machen und ihm seine Tochter geben und will seines Vaters Haus frei machen in Israel.
26 And David said to the men that stood by him, thus, What shall be done to the man that may smite yon Philistine, and take away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the arrays of the living God?
Da sprach David zu den Männern, die bei ihm stunden: Was wird man dem tun, der diesen Philister schlägt und die Schande von Israel wendet? Denn wer ist der Philister, dieser Unbeschnittene, der den Zeug des lebendigen Gottes höhnet?
27 And the people spoke to him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that may smite him.
Da sagte ihm das Volk wie vorhin: So wird man tun dem, der ihn schlägt.
28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he was speaking unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumption, and the wickedness of thy heart; for in order to see the battle art thou come down.
Und Eliab, sein größter Bruder hörete ihn reden mit den Männern und ergrimmete mit Zorn wider David und sprach: Warum bist du herabkommen? und warum hast du die wenigen Schafe dort in der Wüste verlassen? Ich kenne deine Vermessenheit wohl und deines Herzens Bosheit. Denn du bist herabkommen, daß du den Streit sehest.
29 And David said, What have I now done? It is nothing but a word.
David antwortete: Was habe ich denn nun getan? Ist mir's nicht befohlen?
30 And he turned from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner: and the people made him again a reply after the former manner.
Und wandte sich von ihm gegen einen andern und sprach, wie er vorhin gesagt hatte. Da antwortete ihm das Volk wie vorhin.
31 And the words which David had spoken were heard, and they told them in the presence of Saul, who sent for him.
Und da sie die Worte höreten, die David sagte, verkündigten sie es vor Saul, und er ließ ihn holen.
32 And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him: thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
Und David sprach zu Saul: Es entfalle keinem Menschen das Herz um deswillen; dein Knecht soll hingehen und mit dem Philister streiten.
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go unto this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a lad, and he [hath been] a man of war from his youth.
Saul aber sprach zu David: Du kannst nicht hingehen wider diesen Philister, mit ihm zu streiten; denn du bist ein Knabe, dieser aber ist ein Kriegsmann von seiner Jugend auf.
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant was feeding his father's flocks, and there came a lion, and a bear, and bore off a lamb out of the drove;
David aber sprach zu Saul: Dein Knecht hütete der Schafe seines Vaters, und es kam ein Löwe und ein Bär und trug ein Schaf weg von der Herde.
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he rose up against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
Und ich lief ihm nach und schlug ihn und errettete es aus seinem Maul. Und da er sich über mich machte, ergriff ich ihn bei seinem Bart und schlug ihn und tötete ihn.
36 Both the lion and the bear did thy servant smite: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall become as one of them; because he hath defied the arrays of the living God.
Also hat dein Knecht geschlagen beide den Löwen und den Bären. So soll nun dieser Philister, der Unbeschnittene, sein gleichwie deren einer, denn er hat geschändet den Zeug des lebendigen Gottes.
37 Moreover David said, The Lord who hath delivered me out of the power of the lion, and out of the power of the bear, will also surely deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and may the Lord be with thee.
Und David sprach: Der HERR, der mich von dem Löwen und Bären errettet hat, der wird mich auch erretten von diesem Philister.
38 And Saul clothed David with his garments, and he put a helmet of copper upon his head; and he clothed him also with a coat of mail.
Und Saul sprach zu David: Gehe hin, der HERR sei mit dir! Und Saul zog David seine Kleider an und setzte ihm einen ehernen Helm auf sein Haupt und legte ihm einen Panzer an.
39 And David girded his sword over his garments, and he essayed to go; for he had not tried it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot walk in these [things]; for I have never tried it before. And David put them off from him.
Und David gürtete sein Schwert über seine Kleider und fing an zu gehen, denn er hatte es nie versucht. Da sprach David zu Saul: Ich kann nicht also gehen, denn ich bin's nicht gewohnt; und legte es von sich.
40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's pouch which be had, even in a scrip, with his sling in his hand; and he approached to the Philistine.
Und nahm seinen Stab in seine Hand und erwählte fünf glatte Steine aus dem Bach und tat sie in die Hirtentasche, die er hatte, und in den Sack, und nahm die Schleuder in seine Hand und machte sich zu dem Philister.
41 And the Philistine went and drew nearer and nearer unto David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
Und der Philister ging auch einher und machte sich zu David, und sein Schildträger vor ihm her.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a lad, and ruddy, with a fair appearance.
Da nun der Philister sah und schauete David an, verachtete er ihn. Denn er war ein Knabe, bräunlich und schön.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest unto me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
Und der Philister sprach zu David: Bin ich denn ein Hund, daß du mit Stecken zu mir kommst? Und fluchte dem David bei seinem Gott.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.
Und sprach zu David: Komm her zu mir, ich will dein Fleisch geben den Vögeln unter dem Himmel und den Tieren auf dem Felde!
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest unto me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the arrays of Israel, that thou hast defied.
David aber sprach zu dem Philister: Du kommst zu mir mit Schwert, Spieß und Schild; ich aber komme zu dir im Namen des HERRN Zebaoth, des Gottes des Zeuges Israels, den du gehöhnet hast.
46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and remove thy head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God for Israel.
Heutigestages wird dich der HERR in meine Hand überantworten, daß ich dich schlage und nehme dein Haupt von dir und gebe den Leichnam des Heers der Philister heute den Vögeln unter dem Himmel und dem Wild auf Erden, daß alles Land inne werde, daß Israel einen Gott hat,
47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not through sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you up into our hand.
und daß alle diese Gemeine inne werde, daß der HERR nicht durch Schwert noch Spieß hilft; denn der Streit ist des HERRN, und wird euch geben in unsere Hände.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and went and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the battle-array to meet the Philistine.
Da sich nun der Philister aufmachte, ging daher und nahete sich gegen David, eilete David und lief vom Zeuge gegen den Philister.
49 And David put his hand into the pouch, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and he struck the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone sunk into his forehead: and he fell upon his face to the ground.
Und David tat seine Hand in die Tasche und nahm einen Stein daraus und schleuderte und traf den Philister an seine Stirn, daß der Stein in seine Stirn fuhr, und er zur Erde fiel auf sein Angesicht.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with the sling and with the stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
Also überwand David den Philister mit der Schleuder und mit dem Stein; und schlug ihn und tötete ihn. Und da David kein Schwert in seiner Hand hatte,
51 And David ran, and stood by the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they fled.
lief er und trat zu dem Philister und nahm sein Schwert und zog es aus der Scheide und tötete ihn und hieb ihm den Kopf damit ab. Da aber die Philister sahen, daß ihr Stärkster tot war, flohen sie.
52 And then arose the men of Israel and of Judah, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to the valley, and to the gates of 'Ekron. And the slain of the Philistines fell down by the way to Sha'arayim, even as far as Gath, and up to 'Ekron.
Und die Männer Israels und Judas machten sich auf und riefen und jagten den Philistern nach, bis man kommt ins Tal, und bis an die Tore Ekrons. Und die Philister fielen erschlagen auf dem Wege zu den Toren bis gen Gath und gen Ekron.
53 And the children of Israel returned from hotly pursuing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camps.
Und die Kinder Israel kehreten um von dem Nachjagen der Philister und beraubten ihr Lager.
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but his weapons he placed in his tent.
David aber nahm des Philisters Haupt und brachte es gen Jerusalem; seine Waffen aber legte er in seine Hütte.
55 And when Saul saw David going forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this lad? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I know it not.
Da aber Saul David sah ausgehen wider den Philister, sprach er zu Abner, seinem Feldhauptmann: Wes Sohn ist der Knabe? Abner aber sprach: So wahr deine Seele lebet, König, ich weiß nicht.
56 And the king said, Ask thou whose son this youth is.
Der König sprach: So frage danach, wes Sohn der Jüngling sei.
57 And as David returned from smiting the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
Da nun David wiederkam von der Schlacht des Philisters, nahm ihn Abner und brachte ihn vor Saul; und er hatte des Philisters Haupt in seiner Hand.
58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, young man? And David answered, The son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lechemite.
Und Saul sprach zu ihm: Wes Sohn bist du, Knabe? David sprach: Ich bin ein Sohn deines Knechts Isai, des Bethlehemiten.
