Proverbs 17
1 Better [is] a dry morsel, and rest with it, Than a house full of the sacrifices of strife.

2 A wise servant rules over a son causing shame, And he apportions an inheritance in the midst of brothers.

3 A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] YHWH.
Thil solna bel chu dangka solna kimang ahin, mei-khuh sung hi sana solna ahi. Hinlah Pakai hi lungput aboncha patepna ahi.
4 An evildoer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
Miphalou in akamsunga thilphalou seipa thusei bou angai nom in, chule mijou in jong jou le nal thoa leigui kilehpel chu angai nom in ahi.
5 Whoever is mocking at the poor Has reproached his Maker, Whoever is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
Vaicha noisea tot chaveipa chun asempa Pathen ataitom ahin, mi vangset pat’a kipah chun gimbolna ato tei ding ahi.
6 Sons’ sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
Tehseho ding in atute hi alallukhuh-u ahin, chapate loupina hi apateu ahi.
7 A lip of excellence is not fitting for a fool, much less a lip of falsehood for a noble.
Mingol ho din thu ngaitah’a kisei hi pannabei ahin, milen milal te ang sunga jou le nal’a thu kisei jong pannabei ahibouve.
8 A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Wherever it turns, it prospers.
Aguh’a thilpeh kiti hi apepa din vangbohna tobang ahin, hijeh chun achena jousea khang ding ahi.
9 Whoever is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoever is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.
Koi hileh suhkhelna ngaidam thei chun, ngailutna angaichat jing ahin, hinlah miphul phul pan vang gol le pai akikhenpi jin ahi.
10 Rebuke comes down on the intelligent More than one hundred stripes on a fool.
Mingol jakhat vei akichup sang in, thil hetthemna neipa ding in akihilna jeng jong asanji ahei.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
Engsetna nei mi chun doumah jeng ahol le jin, amatoh kitoh ding in sottol engse ahung lo jitai.
12 The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And—not a fool in his folly.
Mikhat in mingol khat angol pat’a akimaitopi sang in, savom nou akilo-doh nungsanga api kimaitopi aphajoi.
13 Whoever is returning evil for good, Evil does not move from his house.
Mihem in thilpha khat thilsea alethuh teng, a-insunga thilse cheng jing ding ahi.
14 The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And leave the strife before it is meddled with.
Kitoma ahung um teng twiput tobang'in ahung pot jin, ajeh chu kitomona aso masanga kikhen tel aphajoi.
15 Whoever is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to YHWH.
Athemmo lha kanga athem-jo mo chansahna hileh, Pakai dinga anitah lhonna dei umlou ahi.
16 Why [is] this—a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart—there is none?
Lungthimbei mingol in chihna kichohna ding sum akhol ngei poi.
17 The friend is loving at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
Golngai chun phattin in mi alungset in, sopi kiti hi akitho khom dinga hung peng ahi.
18 A man lacking heart is striking hands, He becomes a guarantor before his friend.
Lungthim neilou mihem chu bat-san apang jin, hitichun aheng akom hoa batsah nan apang bep e.
19 Whoever is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoever is making his entrance high is seeking destruction.
Suhkhel ding ging lou mihem chun kinah baotam adei ahin, ain kotpi paopia kiletsah pan manthahna jeng agon ahibouve.
20 The perverse of heart does not find good, And the [one] turned in his tongue falls into evil.
Mihem lungput dihlou kiti chu akhang thei pon, jou le nal seija pang kamsung jong vangsetna’a lhalut teiji ahi.
21 Whoever is begetting a fool has affliction for it, Indeed, the father of a fool does not rejoice.
Chapa ngol hi ahingpa dinga gimna bep ahin, hiche mingolpa hing chu akipah thei poi.
22 A rejoicing heart does good to the body, And a struck spirit dries the bone.
Lung kipana hi damna pipen ahin, lamvaija um chu gu le chang dinga doulal um ahi.
23 The wicked takes a bribe from the bosom, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
Thu adih a tan sang in, miphalou hon sum-guh ane jiuvin, thudih chu achekhel sah jitauve.
24 The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool—at the end of the earth.
Thil jouse hetthemna nei mi chun chihna lam jeng aven, ajon in, hinlah mingol chun leiset kol mang avelen ahi.
25 A foolish son [is] a provocation to his father, And bitterness to her bearing him.
Chapa in apa lunggimna asodoh peh in, anu dinga gimna tah ahi.
26 Also, [it] is not good to fine the righteous, To strike nobles for uprightness.
Midih ahilou lam’a leosah kiti apha pon, vaihom milen milal jep ding jong thildih ahipoi.
27 One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
Thu kisei ngaija chu hetna anei jin, chule lungneng tah’a thusei mi chun hetkhenna anei ahi.
28 Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips [seems] intelligent!
Mingol jeng jong thipbeh cha aum teng, miching bang in akigel jin, hitobang michun akam akeh lou teng, miching tah bang in akigel-ji bouve.
