Acts 21
1 And when it came to pass that we were parted from them, and had set sail, we came with a straight course unto Cos, and the next day unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:
Après nous être arrachés à leurs embrassements, nous mîmes à la voile et nous allâmes droit à Cos; le lendemain nous atteignîmes Rhodes, puis Patare.
2 and having found a ship crossing over unto Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail.
Là, ayant trouvé un vaisseau qui faisait la traversée vers la Phénicie, nous y montâmes et partîmes.
3 And when we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed unto Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.
Arrivés en vue de Chypre, nous laissâmes l'île à gauche, nous dirigeant vers la Syrie, et nous abordâmes à Tyr, où le navire devait déposer sa cargaison.
4 And having found the disciples, we tarried there seven days: and these said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not set foot in Jerusalem.
Nous trouvâmes les disciples, et nous restâmes là sept jours; et ils disaient à Paul, par l'Esprit de Dieu, de ne point monter à Jérusalem.
5 And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way, till we were out of the city: and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed,
Mais au bout de sept jours, nous nous acheminâmes pour partir, et tous, avec leurs femmes et leurs enfants, nous accompagnèrent jusqu'en dehors de la ville. Nous nous mîmes à genoux sur le rivage pour prier;
6 and bade each other farewell; and we went on board the ship, but they returned home again.
puis, après nous être dit adieu, nous montâmes sur le vaisseau, tandis qu'ils retournèrent chez eux.
7 And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and we saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.
Pour nous, achevant notre navigation, nous allâmes de Tyr à Ptolémaïs, et ayant salué les frères, nous passâmes un jour avec eux.
8 And on the morrow we departed, and came unto Caesarea: and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.
Nous partîmes le lendemain et nous arrivâmes à Césarée. Etant entrés dans la maison de Philippe l'évangéliste, l'un des sept, nous logeâmes chez lui.
9 Now this man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
Il avait quatre filles vierges, qui prophétisaient.
10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
Comme nous étions dans cette ville depuis quelques jours, il arriva de Judée un prophète nommé Agabus.
11 And coming to us, and taking Paul’s girdle, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
Etant venu vers nous, il prit la ceinture de Paul, se lia les pieds et les mains et dit: " Voici ce que déclare l'Esprit-Saint: L'homme à qui appartient cette ceinture sera ainsi lié à Jérusalem par les Juifs et livré aux mains des Gentils. "
12 And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.
Ayant entendu ces paroles, nous et les fidèles de Césarée, nous conjurâmes Paul de ne point monter à Jérusalem.
13 Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
Alors il répondit: " Que faites-vous de pleurer ainsi et de me briser le cœur? Pour moi, je suis prêt, non seulement à porter les chaînes, mais encore à mourir à Jérusalem pour le nom du Seigneur Jésus. "
14 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
Comme il restait inflexible, nous cessâmes nos instances, en disant: " Que la volonté du Seigneur se fasse! "
15 And after these days we took up our baggage, and went up to Jerusalem.
Après ces jours-là, ayant achevé nos préparatifs, nous montâmes à Jérusalem.
16 And there went with us also [certain] of the disciples from Caesarea, bringing [with them] one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we should lodge.
Des disciples de Césarée vinrent aussi avec nous, emmenant un nommé Mnason, de l'île de Chypre, depuis longtemps disciple, chez qui nous devions loger.
17 And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.
A notre arrivée à Jérusalem, les frères nous reçurent avec joie.
18 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.
Le lendemain, Paul se rendit avec nous chez Jacques, et tous les Anciens s'y réunirent.
19 And when he had saluted them, he rehearsed one by one the things which God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.
Après les avoir embrassés, il raconta en détail tout ce que Dieu avait fait parmi les Gentils par son ministère.
20 And they, when they heard it, glorified God; and they said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of them which have believed; and they are all zealous for the law:
Ce qu'ayant entendu, ils glorifièrent Dieu, et dirent à Paul: " Tu vois, frère, combien de milliers de Juifs ont cru, et tous sont zélés pour la Loi.
21 and they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.
Or ils ont entendu dire de toi que tu enseignes aux Juifs dispersés parmi les Gentils de se séparer de Moïse, leur disant de ne pas circoncire leurs enfants et de ne pas se conformer aux coutumes.
22 What is it therefore? they will certainly hear that thou art come.
Que faire donc? Sans aucun doute, on se rassemblera en foule, car on va savoir ton arrivée.
23 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;
Fais donc ce que nous allons te dire. Nous avons ici quatre hommes qui ont fait un vœu;
24 these take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges for them, that they may shave their heads: and all shall know that there is no truth in the things whereof they have been informed concerning thee; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.
prends-les, purifie-toi avec eux, et fais pour eux les frais des sacrifices, afin qu'ils se rasent la tête. Ainsi tous sauront que les rapports faits sur ton compte sont sans valeur, et que toi aussi tu observes la Loi.
25 But as touching the Gentiles which have believed, we wrote, giving judgment that they should keep themselves from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication.
Quant aux Gentils qui ont cru, nous leur avons écrit après avoir décidé [qu'ils n'ont rien de pareil à observer, sauf] qu'ils doivent s'abstenir des viandes offertes aux idoles, du sang, des animaux étouffés et de la fornication. "
26 Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them went into the temple, declaring the fulfillment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.
Alors Paul prit avec lui ces hommes, et après s'être purifié, il entra le lendemain avec eux dans le temple, pour annoncer que les jours du naziréat étaient expirés, et il y vint jusqu'à ce que le sacrifice eût été offert pour chacun d'eux.
27 And when the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the multitude, and laid hands on him,
Comme les sept jours touchaient à leur fin, les Juifs d'Asie, ayant vu Paul dans le temple, soulevèrent toute la foule et mirent la main sur lui, en criant:
28 crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and moreover he brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place.
" Enfants d'Israël, au secours! Voici l'homme qui prêche partout et à tout le monde contre le peuple, contre la Loi et contre ce lieu; il a même introduit des païens dans le temple et a profané ce saint lieu. "
29 For they had before seen with him in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.
Car ils avaient vu auparavant Trophime d'Ephèse avec lui dans la ville, et ils croyaient que Paul l'avait fait entrer dans le temple.
30 And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: and straightway the doors were shut.
Aussitôt toute la ville fut en émoi, et le peuple accourut de toute part; on se saisit de Paul et on l'entraîna hors du temple, dont les portes furent immédiatement fermées.
31 And as they were seeking to kill him, tidings came up to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in confusion.
Pendant qu'ils cherchaient à le tuer, la nouvelle arriva au tribun de la cohorte que tout Jérusalem était en confusion.
32 And forthwith he took soldiers and centurions, and ran down upon them: and they, when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, left off beating Paul.
Il prit à l'instant des soldats et des centurions, et accourut à eux. A la vue du tribun et des soldats, ils cessèrent de frapper Paul.
33 Then the chief captain came near, and laid hold on him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and inquired who he was, and what he had done.
Alors le tribun s'approchant, se saisit de lui et le fit lier de deux chaînes; puis il demanda qui il était et ce qu'il avait fait.
34 And some shouted one thing, some another, among the crowd: and when he could not know the certainty for the uproar, he commanded him to be brought into the castle.
Mais, dans cette foule, les uns criaient une chose, les autres une autre. Ne pouvant donc rien apprendre de certain, à cause du tumulte, il ordonna de l'emmener dans la forteresse.
35 And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the crowd;
Lorsque Paul fut sur les degrés, il dut être porté par les soldats, à cause de la violence de la multitude.
36 for the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, Away with him.
Car le peuple suivait en foule en criant: " Fais-le mourir. "
37 And as Paul was about to be brought into the castle, he saith unto the chief captain, May I say something unto thee? And he said, Dost thou know Greek?
Au moment d'être introduit dans la forteresse, Paul dit au tribun: " M'est-il permis de te dire quelque chose? — " Tu sais le grec? répondit le tribun.
38 Art thou not then the Egyptian, which before these days stirred up to sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins?
Tu n'es donc pas l'Egyptien qui s'est révolté dernièrement et qui a emmené au désert quatre mille sicaires? "
39 But Paul said, I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee, give me leave to speak unto the people.
Paul lui dit: " Je suis Juif, de Tarse en Cilicie, citoyen d'une ville qui n'est pas sans renom. Je t'en prie, permets-moi de parler au peuple. "
40 And when he had given him leave, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckoned with the hand unto the people; and when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew language, saying,
Le tribun le lui ayant permis, Paul debout sur les degrés, fit signe de la main au peuple. Un profond silence s'établit, et Paul, s'exprimant en langue hébraïque, leur parla ainsi:
