Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
ದಾವೀದನ ಮಗನೂ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನ ಅರಸನೂ ಆದ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯ ಮಾತುಗಳು:
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
“ವ್ಯರ್ಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ! ವ್ಯರ್ಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ!” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. “ಸಮಸ್ತವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ! ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.”
3 What profit hath man of all his labour wherein he laboureth under the sun?
ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಪಡುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಗಳಿಂದ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಲಾಭವೇನು?
4 One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; and the earth abideth for ever.
ಸಂತತಿಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ, ಸಂತತಿಗಳು ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ; ಆದರೆ ಭೂಮಿಯು ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he ariseth.
ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಉದಯಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಮುಳುಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಾನು ಉದಯಿಸುವ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಆತುರದಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it turneth about continually in its course, and the wind returneth again to its circuits.
ಗಾಳಿಯು ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಬೀಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಉತ್ತರದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾ, ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ಗಾಳಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಸುತ್ತಳತೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ.
7 All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place whither the rivers go, thither they go again.
ನದಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೂ ಸಮುದ್ರವು ತುಂಬುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನದಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬಂದಿವೆಯೋ, ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಅವು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುತ್ತವೆ.
8 All things are full of weariness; man cannot utter [it]: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿವೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ವಿವರಿಸಲಾರನು. ನೋಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೃಪ್ತಿಗೊಳ್ಳದು, ಕೇಳುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಿವಿಯು ದಣಿಯದು.
9 That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ ಇರುವುದು, ನಡೆದದ್ದೇ ನಡೆಯುವುದು. ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹೊಸದಾದದ್ದು ಯಾವದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
10 Is there a thing whereof men say, See, this is new? it hath been already, in the ages which were before us.
“ನೋಡು, ಇದು ಹೊಸದು,” ಎಂದು ಯಾವ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಬಹುದೋ? ಅದು ನಮಗಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ಇದ್ದದ್ದು, ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ.
11 There is no remembrance of the former [generations]; neither shall there be any remembrance of the latter [generations] that are to come, among those that shall come after.
ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದ ಜನರ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಈಗಿನವರಿಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವವರ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಅವುಗಳ ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯಾದ ನಾನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅರಸನಾಗಿದ್ದೆ.
13 And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.
ಆಕಾಶದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿ, ವಿಮರ್ಶಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ದೇವರು ಮಾನವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಈ ಕಷ್ಟಕರವಾದ ಪ್ರಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೊರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.
ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ನಾನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವಂತೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.
15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
ವಕ್ರವಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಸರಿಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಲ್ಲದ್ದನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸುವುದು ಅಸಾಧ್ಯ.
16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart hath had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
ನನ್ನಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನೇ ಹೀಗೆಂದುಕೊಂಡೆನು, “ನೋಡು, ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಆಳಿದವರಿಗಿಂತ ನಾನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಹೌದು, ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಹಾಗೂ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯ ಅನುಭವ ನನಗಿದೆ.”
17 And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind.
ಆಗ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನೂ ಮನಗುಂದುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನತೆಯನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ನಾನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟೆನು, ಅದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಇದು ಸಹ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆನ್ನಟ್ಟಿದಂತೆ, ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಂಡೆನು.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಬಹು ಜ್ಞಾನವಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹು ಸಂಕಟ, ಹೆಚ್ಚು ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆ ಇದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವ್ಯಥೆ ಇದೆ.
