Job 41
1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fish hook? or press down his tongue with a cord?
¿Puedes tú sacar con un anzuelo el cocodrilo, atar con una cuerda su lengua?
2 Canst thou put a rope into his nose? or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
¿Pondrás una soga en su nariz, y perforarás con garfio su quijada?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak soft words unto thee?
¿Se acercará a ti con palabras sumisas o te hablará con lisonjas?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee, that thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?
¿Hará un pacto contigo para que lo tomes como esclavo perpetuo?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
¿Jugarás con él como con un pájaro? ¿Lo atarás para entretener a tus niñas?
6 Shall the bands [of fishermen] make traffic of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
¿Los comerciantes harán negocio por él? ¿Lo cortarán en trozos entre los mercaderes?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons, or his head with fish spears?
¿Podrás abrirle el cuero con lancetas, o su cabeza con arpones?
8 Lay thine hand upon him; remember the battle, and do so no more.
Pon tu mano sobre él. Recuerda la batalla con él. No lo volverás a hacer.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
Ciertamente la esperanza de esta pelea queda frustrada. Un hombre desfallece con solo verlo.
10 None is so fierce that he dare stir him up: who then is he that can stand before me?
Nadie se atreve a despertarlo. ¿Entonces quién puede estar en pie delante de Mí?
11 Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him? [whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
¿Quién me dio primero a Mí, para que Yo le restituya? Todo lo que hay debajo del cielo es mío.
12 I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his comely proportion.
No guardaré silencio acerca de sus miembros, ni de su gran fuerza ni de su excelente figura.
13 Who can strip off his outer garment? who shall come within his double bridle?
¿Quién levanta la primera capa de su envoltura y penetra a través de su doble coraza?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? round about his teeth is terror.
¿Quién abre la parte posterior de su boca rodeada de dientes espantosos?
15 His strong scales are [his] pride, shut up together [as with] a close seal.
Sus fuertes escamas son su orgullo, cerradas entre sí como firme sello,
16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
tan unidas la una con la otra que ni el aire pasa entre ellas.
17 They are joined one to another; they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
Están soldadas, cada una a su vecina, trabadas entre sí, no se pueden separar.
18 His neesings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Su estornudo lanza destellos de luz. Sus ojos son como los párpados de la aurora.
19 Out of his mouth go burning torches, and sparks of fire leap forth.
De la parte posterior de su boca salen llamaradas y se escapan centellas de fuego.
20 Out of his nostrils a smoke goeth, as of a seething pot and [burning] rushes.
De sus fosas nasales sale vapor como el de una olla que hierve al fuego.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth forth from his mouth.
Su aliento enciende los carbones. Salen llamaradas de las partes posteriores de su boca.
22 In his neck abideth strength, and terror danceth before him.
En su nuca se asienta la fuerza. Ante él cunde el terror.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.
Los pliegues de su carne son compactos. Están firmes en él y no se mueven.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, firm as the nether millstone.
Su corazón es duro como la piedra, como la piedra inferior de un molino.
25 When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: by reason of consternation they are beside themselves.
Cuando se levanta, tiemblan los valientes, y por el quebrantamiento, retroceden.
26 If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail; nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
La espada no lo alcanza, ni la lanza, ni la lanceta, ni la flecha, ni la lanza arrojadiza.
27 He counteth iron as straw, [and] brass as rotten wood.
Para él el hierro es como pasto, y el bronce, madera carcomida.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
No lo ahuyentan las flechas. Las piedras de la honda le son como rastrojo.
29 Clubs are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the rushing of the javelin.
Los garrotes le son como hojarasca. Se burla del brillo del arma arrojadiza.
30 His underparts are [like] sharp potsherds: he spreadeth [as it were] a threshing wain upon the mire.
Por debajo tiene conchas puntiagudas, se extiende como un trillo sobre el lodo.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like ointment.
Hace lo profundo del mar hervir como una olla. Lo convierte como una olla de ungüento.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
Detrás de él brilla una estela de agua como barba encanecida.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, that is made without fear.
Nada hay semejante a él sobre la tierra. Fue hecho exento de temor.
34 He beholdeth every thing that is high: he is king over all the sons of pride.
Menosprecia todo lo elevado. Es rey de todos los hijos del orgullo.
