Proverbs 27
1 Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
No te jactes del día de mañana, ya que no sabes qué dará de sí el día (siguiente).
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
Alábete otro, y no tu boca; un extraño, y no tus labios.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s vexation is heavier than them both.
Pesada es la piedra, y una carga la arena, pero más gravosa que ambas cosas es la ira del necio.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
Cruel es la cólera e impetuoso el furor; pero, ¿quién es capaz de suprimir los celos?
5 Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
Más vale una reprensión abierta que una amistad que no se manifiesta.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend: but the kisses of an enemy are profuse.
Son sinceras las heridas hechas por quien ama, pero engañosos los besos del que odia.
7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb: but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
El harto pisotea el panal, para el hambriento todo lo amargo es dulce.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
Como ave que se aleja de su nido, así es el hombre que abandona su lugar.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend [that cometh] of hearty counsel.
Como perfumes e incienso deleitan el corazón, así el alma encuentra dulzura en el consejo de un amigo.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; and go not to thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
No abandones a tu amigo, ni al amigo de tu padre, y en el día de tu dolor no vayas a la casa de tu hermano. Más vale vecino cercano que hermano lejano.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
Sé sabio, hijo mío, y alegra mi corazón; para que pueda yo responder a quien me afrenta.
12 A prudent man seeth the evil, [and] hideth himself: [but] the simple pass on, [and] suffer for it.
El hombre cauto divisa el peligro y se esconde; el incauto sigue adelante y sufre el daño.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge [that is surety] for a strange woman.
Quítale el vestido, pues salió de fiador por otro, y tómale prenda para satisfacer a la mujer extraña.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
Bendecir al amigo a grandes voces y muy de mañana, es reputado como una maldición.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike:
Gotera continua en tiempo de lluvia, y mujer rencillosa, cosa igual;
16 He that would restrain her restraineth the wind, and his right hand encountereth oil.
querer guardarla es guardar los vientos, y retener en la mano el aceite.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Hierro con hierro se aguza; así un hombre aguza a otro.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
Quien cultiva una higuera comerá su fruto; quien cuida a su señor será honrado.
19 As in water face [answereth] to face, so the heart of man to man.
Como en el agua rostro (corresponde) a rostro, así el corazón del hombre al hombre.
El scheol y el abismo no se sacian nunca; así tampoco los ojos del hombre. (Sheol h7585)
21 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is [tried] by his praise.
El crisol prueba la plata, la hornaza el oro; así le prueba al hombre la boca que le alaba.
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among bruised corn, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
Aunque majares al necio en un mortero, como se maja el trigo con el pisón, no por eso se apartará de él su necedad.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, [and] look well to thy herds:
Conoce bien tus ovejas y cuida de tus rebaños,
24 For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?
porque no duran siempre las riquezas, ni la corona de generación en generación.
25 The hay is carried, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in.
Brota el pasto, aparece la hierba y se recoge el heno de los montes;
26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field:
entonces los corderos te darán el vestido, los cabritos el precio del campo,
27 And [there will be] goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
y las cabras leche en abundancia para tu alimento, para el sustento de tu casa y la vida de tus criadas.
