Psalms 140

1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:

Dem Vorsänger. Ein Psalm Davids. Errette mich, HERR, von den bösen Menschen; vor den Gewalttätigen bewahre mich!

2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually do they gather themselves together for war.

Denn sie haben Böses im Sinn und erregen täglich Streit.

3 They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. (Selah)

Sie spitzen ihre Zunge wie eine Schlange, Otterngift ist unter ihren Lippen. (Pause)

4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man: Who have purposed to thrust aside my steps.

Bewahre mich, HERR, vor den Händen des Gottlosen, behüte mich vor dem gewalttätigen Menschen, der mich zu Fall bringen will!

5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way side; they have set gins for me. (Selah)

Die Stolzen legen mir Fallen und Schlingen, sie spannen ein Netz aus neben dem Weg; sie haben mir Fallstricke gelegt. (Pause)

6 I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: give ear unto the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

Ich aber sage zum HERRN: Du bist mein Gott; HERR, vernimm die Stimme meines Flehens!

7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

O HERR, mein Gott, du bist meine mächtige Hilfe; du schützest mein Haupt am Tage der Schlacht!

8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; further not his evil device; [lest] they exalt themselves. (Selah)

HERR, gib dem Gottlosen nicht, was er will; laß seinen Anschlag nicht gelingen! (Pause)

9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

Erheben sie das Haupt rings um mich her, so komme das Unheil ihrer Lippen über sie selbst!

10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

Feuerglut falle auf sie! Ins Feuer stürze er sie, in Wassertiefen, daß sie nicht mehr aufstehn!

11 An evil speaker shall not be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Der Verleumder wird nicht bestehen im Lande; den frechen Menschen wird das Unglück verfolgen bis zu seinem Untergang!

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the needy.

Ich weiß, daß der HERR des Elenden Sache führen und dem Armen Recht schaffen wird.

13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Ja, die Gerechten werden deinen Namen preisen und die Redlichen vor deinem Angesicht wohnen!
