Deuteronomy 33
1 Now, this, is the blessing wherewith Moses, the man of God, blessed the sons of Israel, —before his death.
Or voici la bénédiction dont Moïse, homme de Dieu, bénit les enfants d'Israël avant sa mort.
2 And he said—Yahweh from Sinai, came near, —Yea he dawned, out of Seir, upon them, He shone forth out of Mount Paran, Yea he came out of holy myriads, —Out of his right hand [proceeded] fire to guide them.
Il dit donc: L'Éternel est venu de Sinaï, et s'est levé sur eux de Séir; il a resplendi de la montagne de Paran; il est sorti des myriades de saints; de sa droite sortait pour eux le feu de la loi.
3 Yea he loved the tribes, All his holy ones, were in thy hand, —Yea, they, were encamped at thy feet, Each one bare away some of thy words.
Oui, il aime les peuples. Tous ses saints sont en ta main. Ils se sont tenus à tes pieds pour recevoir tes paroles.
4 A law, did Moses command us, —A possession, for the convocation of Jacob.
Moïse nous a donné la loi, héritage de l'assemblée de Jacob;
5 Thus became he in, Jeshurun, a king, —When the heads of the people gathered them-selves together, As one man, the tribes of Israel. [Reuben] —
Et il a été roi en Jeshurun (Israël), quand les chefs du peuple s'assemblaient avec les tribus d'Israël.
6 Let Reuben live and not die, —Nor his men be easily counted.
Que Ruben vive, et qu'il ne meure point, et que ses hommes soient nombreux!
7 And, this, is for Judah, when he said, Hear, O Yahweh, the voice of Judah, That unto his own people, thou wouldst bring him home, —Let, his own hands, suffice him, And, a helper from his adversaries, do thou become.
Et sur Juda, voici ce que Moïse dit: Écoute, Éternel, la voix de Juda, et ramène-le vers son peuple; que ses mains soient puissantes, et sois-lui en aide contre ses ennemis!
8 And of Levi, he said: Let, thy perfections and thy lights, belong unto thy man of lovingkindness, —Whom thou didst put to the proof at Massah, With whom thou didst contend over the waters of Meribah;
Il dit aussi, touchant Lévi: Tes Thummim et tes Urim sont à ton pieux serviteur, que tu éprouvas à Massa, avec lequel tu contestas aux eaux de Mériba;
9 Who saith of his father and of his mother, I behold them not, And, his own brethren, regardeth he not, And, his own sons, observeth he not, —Because they watch thy speech, That, thy covenant, they may preserve;
Qui dit de son père et de sa mère: Je ne l'ai point vu; et qui n'a point reconnu ses frères, ni connu ses enfants. Car ils ont observé tes paroles, et ils garderont ton alliance.
10 May teach thy regulations unto Jacob, And thy law unto Israel, —May put incense in thy nostrils, And a whole-offering upon thine altar.
Ils enseigneront tes ordonnances à Jacob, et ta loi à Israël; ils mettront le parfum sous tes narines, et l'holocauste sur ton autel.
11 Bless, O Yahweh his substance, And with the work of his hands, wilt thou be well pleased, —Crush thou the loins of them who rise up against him, And of them who hate him, that they rise not again.
O Éternel, bénis sa force, et agrée l'œuvre de ses mains. Frappe aux reins ceux qui s'élèvent contre lui, et ceux qui le haïssent, dès qu'ils s'élèveront.
12 Of Benjamin, he said, The beloved of Yahweh, shall settle down securely, —With one to throw a shade over him all the day long, Yea, between his shoulders, hath he found rest.
Sur Benjamin il dit: Celui que l'Éternel aime habitera en sécurité près de lui; il le couvrira tout le jour, et il se tiendra entre ses épaules.
13 And of Joseph, he said, Blessed of Yahweh, be his land, —With the precious things of the heavens with the dew, And with the abyss, couching beneath;
Et sur Joseph il dit: Son pays est béni par l'Éternel, du précieux don des cieux, de la rosée, et de l'abîme qui repose en bas;
14 And with the precious fruits of the sun, —And with the precious yield of the moons;
Des plus précieux produits du soleil, et des plus précieux fruits des lunes;
15 And with the chief of the ancient mountains, —And with the precious things of the age-abiding hills;
Des meilleures productions des montagnes antiques et des précieuses productions des coteaux éternels;
16 And with the precious things of the earth and its fulness, And with the goodwill of One who dwelt in a thorn-bush.—Let it come on the head of Joseph, And on the crown of the head of him who was consecrated among his brethren.
De ce qu'il y a de plus précieux sur la terre, et de son abondance. Et que la bienveillance de celui qui apparut dans le buisson vienne sur la tête de Joseph, et sur le front du prince de ses frères.
17 His firstborn ox, be an honour to him. And the horns of a buffalo, be his horns, With them, let him thrust, peoples, All at once, to the ends of the earth, —Yea, [with] these, the myriads of Ephraim, And, [with] those, the thousands of Manasseh.
Il a la beauté du premier-né de ses taureaux, et ses cornes sont les cornes d'un buffle; avec elles il heurtera tous les peuples ensemble jusqu'aux bouts de la terre; ce sont les myriades d'Éphraïm, ce sont les milliers de Manassé.
18 And, of Zebulun, he said, Rejoice, Zebulun in thy going out, —And [thou], Issachar in thy tents:
Et de Zabulon il dit: Réjouis-toi, Zabulon, dans ta sortie; et toi, Issacar, dans tes tentes!
19 The peoples, unto the mountain, will they call, There, will they offer the sacrifices of righteousness, —For, the abundance of the seas, will they suck, Hidden treasures of the sand.
Ils appelleront les peuples à la montagne; là ils offriront des sacrifices de justice; car ils suceront l'abondance des mers et les trésors cachés dans le sable.
20 And, of Gad, he said: Blessed, be he that hath made room for Gad, —As a lioness, hath he laid himself down, And hath torn an arm likewise the crown of the head;
Et de Gad il dit: Béni soit celui qui met Gad au large! Il repose comme un lion, et il déchire bras et tête;
21 And hath provided a first part for himself, For, there, a commander’s portion hath been hid, —So he cometh with the heads of the people, The righteousness of Yahweh, he executeth, And his regulations, with Israel.
Il s'est choisi les prémices du pays, parce que là était cachée la portion du législateur; et il est venu avec les chefs du peuple; il a exécuté la justice de l'Éternel, et ses jugements envers Israël.
22 And, of Dan, he said, Dan, is a lion’s whelp, —He leapeth out of Bashan.
Et sur Dan il dit: Dan est un jeune lion, qui s'élance de Bassan.
23 And, of Naphtali, he said, O Naphtali! satisfied with favour, And full with the blessing of Yahweh, —The west and the sunny south, do thou possess.
Et de Nephthali il dit: Nephthali, rassasié de faveurs et rempli de la bénédiction de l'Éternel, possède l'Occident et le Midi!
24 And, of Asher, he said, Most blessed of sons, be Asher, —Let him have the goodwill of his brethren, And let him dip, in oil, his foot:
Et d'Asser il dit: Qu'Asser soit béni entre les fils; qu'il soit agréable à ses frères, et qu'il baigne son pied dans l'huile!
25 Iron and bronze, be thy sandals, And, as thy days, be thy strength.
Tes verrous seront de fer et d'airain, et ton repos durera autant que tes jours.
26 There is none like GOD, O Jeshurun, —Riding upon the heavens to thy help, —And for his own majesty, on the skies;
Nul n'est, ô Jeshurun (Israël), semblable au Dieu qui vient à ton aide, porté sur les cieux et sur les nues, dans sa majesté.
27 Above, is the God of aforetime, And, beneath, are the Arms of the ages, —So he driveth before thee the foe, And doth say—Destroy!
C'est une retraite que le Dieu qui est de tout temps, et que d'être sous ses bras éternels. Il a chassé de devant toi l'ennemi, et il a dit: Extermine!
28 Thus hath Israel settled down securely, Alone, the fountain of Jacob, Within a land both of corn and new wine, —His heaven also droppeth down dew.
Et Israël habitera en sécurité; la source issue de Jacob jaillit à part dans un pays de froment et de moût, et dont les cieux distillent la rosée.
29 How happy art thou, O Israel! Who is like unto thee, O people victorious in Yahweh? Thy helpful shield, who also is thy majestic sword, —So that thy foes come cringing unto thee, And, thou, upon their heights, dost march along.
Oh! que tu es heureux, Israël! Qui est semblable à toi, peuple sauvé par l'Éternel, le bouclier de ton secours et l'épée par laquelle tu es exalté? Tes ennemis dissimuleront devant toi; et toi, tu fouleras de tes pieds leurs hauts lieux
