Deuteronomy 7
1 When Yahweh thy God shall bring thee into the land which thou art going in to possess, and shall clear away many nations from before thee—the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites, and the Canaanites and the Perizzites, and the Hivites and the Jebusites—seven nations greater in number and stronger than thou;
"Bringt dich der Herr, dein Gott, in das Land, in das du zu seiner Besetzung kommst, und treibt er viele Völker vor dir aus: die Chittiter, Girgasiter, Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Periziter, Chiwiter und Jebusiter, sieben Völker, zahlreicher und mächtiger als du,
2 and Yahweh thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them, thou shalt devote them to destruction, thou shalt not solemnise with them a covenant neither shalt thou shew them favour;
gibt der Herr, dein Gott, sie dir preis und schlägst du sie, dann sollst du sie bannen! Du sollst keinen Bund mit ihnen schließen! Du sollst keine Gnade an ihnen üben!
3 neither shalt thou intermarry with them, —thy daughter, shalt thou not give unto his son, nor his daughter, shalt thou take for thy son;
Du sollst dich nicht mit ihnen verschwägern! Du sollst deine Tochter keinem ihrer Söhne zum Weibe geben! Du sollst keine ihrer Töchter für deinen Sohn zum Weibe nehmen!
4 for he will turn aside thy son from following me, and they will serve other gods, —so shall the anger of Yahweh kindle upon you, and he will destroy thee, speedily.
Denn sie könnte deinen Sohn mir abspenstig machen, und er könnte anderen Göttern dienen. Dann aber zürnte der Herr über euch und tilgte dich schnell.
5 Verily, thus, shall ye do unto them: Their altars, shall ye tear down, And their pillars, shall ye break in pieces, —And their sacred stems, shall ye hew down, And their carved images, shall ye burn up in the fire.
Tut so mit ihnen: Ihre Altäre sollt ihr zerstören, zertrümmern ihre Steinmale, ihre heiligen Bäume fällen und ihre Gottesbilder verbrennen!
6 For a holy people, art thou unto Yahweh thy God: of thee, hath Yahweh thy God, made choice, that thou shouldest become his people as a treasure, above all the peoples that are on the face of the ground:
Denn ein heilig Volk bist du dem Herrn, deinem Gott. Dich hat der Herr, dein Gott, zum eigenen Volke erkoren aus allen Völkern auf dem Erdboden.
7 not because ye were more in number than any of the peoples, did Yahweh become attached to you and make choice of you, —for, ye, were fewer than any of the peoples;
Nicht weil ihr zahlreicher seid als die anderen Völker, hat euch der Herr begehrt, so daß er euch erkor; denn ihr seid das kleinste aller Völker,
8 but because Yahweh loved you and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, did Yahweh bring you forth with a firm hand, —and redeem thee out of the house of servants, out of the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
sondern weil der Herr euch liebt und den Schwur hält, den er euren Vätern geleistet hat. So hat euch der Herr mit starker Hand hinweggeführt und so befreite er dich aus dem Sklavenhaus, aus der Hand des Ägypterkönigs Pharao.
9 So then, thou must know that, Yahweh thy God, he, is God, —the faithful GOD, keeping his covenant and his lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations
So wisse, daß der Herr, dein Gott, der Gott ist, der unvergängliche Gott. Er bewahrt den Bund und die Huld bis ins tausendste Geschlecht denen, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten.
10 but requiting them who hate him unto his face to destroy them, —he will not be slack towards him that hateth him, unto his face, will he requite him.
Aber seinen Hassern vergilt er öffentlich durch Vernichtung. Er gibt seinem Hasser keinen Aufschub, sondern vergilt ihm öffentlich.
11 So shalt thou keep the commandment and the statutes and the regulations, which I am commanding thee to-day, to do them.
Darum befolge das Gesetz, die Gebote und Gebräuche, die ich dir heute zu tun gebiete!
12 Then shall it come to pass if ye will hearken unto these regulations, and keep and do them, then will Yahweh thy God keep with thee the covenant and the lovingkindness which he sware unto thy fathers;
Zum Lohne dafür, daß ihr diesen Vorschriften gehorchet, sie beobachtet und befolget, wahrt dir der Herr, dein Gott, den Bund und die Huld, die er deinen Vätern zugeschworen.
13 and will love thee, and bless thee and multiply thee, —and bless the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy ground thy corn and thy new wine and thine oil the young of thy kine and the ewes of thy flock, upon the soil which he swart unto thy fathers to give unto thee.
Er liebt dich, segnet dich und mehrt dich. Er segnet deine Leibesfrucht und deine Feldfrucht, dein Korn, deinen Wein und dein Öl, den Wurf deiner Rinder und die Zucht deiner Schafe in dem Land, das er deinen Vätern zugeschworen, dir zu geben.
14 Blessed shalt thou be beyond all the peoples, —there shall not be in thee a barren male or female, nor among thy cattle;
Gesegnet bist du dann vor allen Völkern. Bei dir ist nichts Unfruchtbares weder beim Manne noch beim Weibe noch beim Vieh.
15 and Yahweh, will turn away, from thee, all disease, —and as for all the sore sicknesses of Egypt which thou knowest, he will not lay them upon thee, but will put them upon all who hate thee;
Der Herr hält dir jede Krankheit fern und legt dir keine der bösen ägyptischen Seuchen auf, die du kennst. Er belegt damit alle deine Hasser.
16 and thou shalt devour all the peoples whom, Yahweh thy God, is delivering up unto thee, thine eye shall not look with pity upon them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, for a snare, would it be unto thee.
Vertilge die Völker alle, die der Herr, dein Gott, dir preisgibt! Du sollst nicht auf sie schauen! Du sollst nicht ihren Göttern dienen! Denn das wäre dir ein Fallstrick.
17 Although thou mightest say in thy heart: More in number, are these nations than I, —how can, I dispossess them?
Denkst du aber: 'Diese Völker sind größer als ich, wie könnte ich sie besiegen?',
18 thou must not be afraid of them, —thou must, remember, what Yahweh thy God did, unto Pharaoh and unto all Egypt:
so sollst du dich nicht vor ihnen fürchten! Du sollst bedenken, was der Herr, dein Gott, dem Pharao und ganz Ägypten getan,
19 the great provings which thine own eyes saw, and the signs and the wonders and the firm hand and the stretched-out arm, wherewith Yahweh thy God brought thee forth, —so, will Yahweh thy God do unto all the peoples, before whom thou art afraid.
die großen Proben, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen, die Zeichen und Wunder, die starke Hand und den gereckten Arm, womit dich der Herr, dein Gott, befreit hat! Also wird der Herr, dein Gott, mit all den Völkern tun, vor denen du dich fürchtest.
20 Moreover also, the hornet, will Yahweh thy God send among them, —until they are destroyed who are left remaining, and who are hiding themselves from thy face.
Ja, selbst Hornissen sendet der Herr, dein Gott, wider sie, bis vernichtet sind die Übriggebliebenen, die sich vor dir versteckten.
21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at their presence, —for Yahweh thy God in thy midst is a Go great and to be revered.
Du sollst dich nicht vor ihnen entsetzen! Denn der Herr, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, ein Gott, groß und furchtbar.
22 So will Yahweh thy God, clear away these nations from before thee little by little, —thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the wild beast of the field should multiply ever thee.
Der Herr, dein Gott, vertreibt diese Völker nur allmählich vor dir. Du darfst sie aber nicht zu rasch vertilgen, sonst wüchse über dich das Wild des Feldes.
23 But Yahweh thy God will deliver them up before thee, —and discomfit them with a great discomfiture, until they are destroyed;
Der Herr, dein Gott, gibt sie dir preis und setzt sie in gewaltigen Schrecken, bis sie vernichtet sind.
24 and will deliver their kings into thy hand and thou shalt destroy their name, from under the heavens, —not a man shall stand before thee, until thou hast destroyed them.
Er gibt auch ihre Könige in deine Hand, und du tilgst ihren Namen unterm Himmel. Niemand hält vor dir stand, bis du sie vertilgt hast.
25 The carved images of their gods, shalt thou consume with fire, —thou shalt not covet the silver and gold upon them to take unto thee, lest thou be ensnared thereby; for the abomination of Yahweh thy God, it is;
Ihre Götterbilder sollt ihr verbrennen. Nach dem Silber und Gold daran soll dich nicht gelüsten; nimm es dir nicht! Sonst wirst du dadurch umgarnt. Denn das ist dem Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Greuel.
26 and thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, and so become devoted to destruction, like it, thou shalt, abhor, it, and thou shalt, loathe it, because a thing devoted to destruction, it is.
Du sollst keinen Greuel in dein Haus bringen, daß du nicht gleich ihm gebannt würdest! Du sollst es verabscheuen und Grauen davor haben! Denn es ist gebannt."
