Habakkuk 2
1 Upon my watch-tower, will I stand, and will station myself upon the bulwark, —so will I keep outlook, to see—what he will speak with me, and what I shall reply, when I am reproved.
Je veux me tenir à mon poste, et me placer sur la tour de garde; et j'observerai pour voir ce que me dira Yahweh, et ce que je répondrai à la remontrance qui me sera faite.
2 Then Yahweh answered me, and said, Write the vision, Yea, make it plain on tablets, that one may swiftly read it;
Et Yahweh me répondit et dit: Écris la vision et grave-la sur les tables, afin qu'on y lise couramment.
3 For yet is the vision for an appointed time, still, it presseth towards an end, and will not deceive, —if it tarry, wait thou for it, for it, surely cometh, —will not be too late.
Car il y a encore une vision pour un temps fixé; elle se hâte vers son terme et ne mentira pas; si elle tarde, attends-là, car elle arrivera certainement, elle ne manquera pas:
4 Lo! as for the conceited one, crooked is his soul within him, - but, one who is righteous, by his faithfulness, shall live.
Celui dont l'âme s'enfle au-dedans de lui n'est pas dans le droit chemin; mais le juste vivra par sa foi.
5 Moreover also, when wine betrayeth, a man, is arrogant, and findeth no rest, —because he hath enlarged, like hades, his desire, yea, he, is like death, and cannot be satisfied, —but hath gathered unto himself, all the nations, and assembled unto himself, all the peoples. (Sheol h7585)
Et de plus le vin est perfide! L'homme arrogant ne subsistera pas, lui qui s'est fait un appétit large comme le schéol, qui, comme la mort, est insatiable; il rassemble vers lui toutes les nations, et ramasse à lui tous les peuples. (Sheol h7585)
6 Shall not, these, all of them, against him, take up—a taunt, a mocking poem, enigmatical sentences—concerning him? And say—Alas! for him who maketh abundance in what is not his own, How long? that he should be burdening himself with heavy debts?
Est-ce que ceux-ci, eux tous, ne prononceront pas à son sujet des sentences, des fables et des énigmes à son adresse? On dira: Malheur à qui amasse ce qui n'est pas à lui, — jusques à quand? — à qui met sur soi un fardeau de gages!
7 Will not thy creditors, suddenly rise up? and they who shall violently shake thee, all at once become active? Then shalt thou serve for booties, unto them!
Tes créanciers ne se lèveront-ils pas soudain, tes bourreaux ne se réveilleront-ils pas, et ne deviendras-tu pas leur proie?
8 Because, thou, hast plundered many nations, all the residue of the peoples, shall plunder thee, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
Parce que tu as dépouillé beaucoup de nations, tous les peuples qui restent te dépouilleront, à cause du sang humain répandu, des violences faites à la terre, à la ville et à tous ses habitants.
9 Alas! for him who extorteth an extortion of wrong for his own house, —that he may set on high his nest, that he may be delivered from the grasp of calamity.
Malheur à qui amasse pour sa maison des gains iniques, afin de placer son nid bien haut, pour échapper à l'atteinte du malheur!
10 Thou hast counseled shame to thy house—making an end of many peoples, and endangering thine own life.
Tu as médité la honte de ta maison; en détruisant beaucoup de peuples, tu as péché contre toi-même.
11 Surely, the stone out of the wall, will make outcry, —and, the tie out of the timber, will answer it.
Car la pierre criera de la muraille, et la poutre lui répondra de la charpente.
12 Alas! for him who buildeth a city with deeds of blood, —and establisheth a town with perversity.
Malheur à qui bâtit une ville dans le sang, et fonde une cité sur l'injustice!
13 Lo! is it not from Yahweh of hosts—that peoples labour for fire, and, populations, for emptiness, weary themselves?
N'est-ce pas, ceci, la volonté de Yahweh des armées: que les peuples travaillent pour le feu, et que les nations se fatiguent pour le néant?
14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, —as, the waters, cover the sea.
Car la terre sera remplie de la connaissance de la gloire de Yahweh, comme les eaux recouvrent le fond de la mer.
15 Alas! for him who causeth his neighbour to drink, from the goblet of thy fury, and also, making him drunk, —to the end thou mayest gloat over their parts of shame.
Malheur à qui fait boire son prochain, à toi qui lui verses ta fureur jusqu'à l'enivrer, pour regarder sa nudité!
16 Thou art sated with contempt, more than glory, drink, thou too, and expose thy person, —the cup of the right hand of Yahweh, shall come round unto thee, and ignominious filth be upon thy glory;
Tu t'es rassasié d'opprobre, au lieu de gloire; bois, toi aussi, et montre ton incirconcision; la coupe de la droite de Yahweh se retournera sur toi; l'ignominie couvrira ta gloire.
17 For, the violence [done] to Lebanon, shall cover thee, and wasting by wild beasts shall cause them terror, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
Car la violence faite au Liban retombera sur toi, ainsi que la destruction des animaux frappés d'épouvante, à cause du sang humain répandu, des violences faites à la terre, à la ville et à tous ses habitants.
18 What hath a carved image, profited, though the fashioner thereof, carved it? a molten image, and a teacher of falsehood, —though the fashioner of his fashioned thing trusted therein? that men should make Dumb Nonentities!
A quoi sert l'image taillée, pour que son auteur la taille, l'idole de fonte, et l'oracle de mensonge, pour que l'auteur de cet ouvrage se confie en lui, en façonnant des divinités silencieuses?
19 Alas! for him who saith to wood, Awake, bestir thee! to a silent stone, he, shall teach! Though he is overlaid with gold and silver, yet, no spirit whatsoever, is in him!
Malheur à qui dit au bois: " Lève-toi! " " Réveille-toi! " à la pierre muette. Enseignera-t-elle?... Voici qu'elle est plaquée d'or et d'argent, et il n'y a pas au dedans d'elle un souffle de vie.
20 Howbeit, Yahweh, is in his holy temple, —Hush before him, all the earth.
Mais Yahweh est dans son saint temple; tais-toi, devant lui, ô terre toute entière!
