< Judges 1 >

1 And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
Oluvannyuma lw’okufa kwa Yoswa, Abayisirayiri ne babuuza Mukama Katonda nti, “Ani mu ffe alisooka okwaŋŋanga Abakanani okubalwanyisa?”
2 And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.
Mukama Katonda n’abaddamu nti Yuda yalisooka, era laba mbawadde obuwanguzi ku Bakanani.
3 Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
Abasajja ba Yuda ne bagamba baganda baabwe abasajja ba Simyoni nti, “Tugende ffenna mu kitundu kyaffe ekyatuweebwa tulwanyise Abakanani, era naffe tuligenda nammwe mu kitundu ekyabaweebwa.” Awo ne bagenda bonna.
4 And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
Yuda n’alumba Abakanani n’Abaperezi e Bezeki era Mukama n’amuwa obuwanguzi n’abattamu abasajja omutwalo mulamba.
5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
Ne bagwikiriza Adonibezeki mu Bezeki; ne bamulwanyisa era ne batta abasajja be.
6 But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
Naye Adonibezeki ne yeemulula, ne bamuwondera, ne bamukwata era ne bamusalako engalo ze ensajja n’ebigere ebisajja.
7 Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
Adonibezeki ne yejjusa n’agamba nti, “Nga bakabaka ensanvu abaasalibwako engalo zaabwe ensajja n’ebigere ebisajja, bwe baalondalondanga obukunkumuka wansi w’emmeeza yange, nange bwe ŋŋenda okuba. Kye nakola bannange Katonda nange akintusizzaako.” Ne bamutwala e Yerusaalemi n’afiira eyo.
8 And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.
Abasajja ba Yuda ne balumba ekibuga Yerusaalemi ne bakiwamba ne batta abantu baamu n’ekitala, oluvannyuma ne bakyokya.
9 And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
Awo abasajja ba Yuda ne balumba Abakanani abaabeeranga mu nsozi ne mu biwonvu ne mu bukiika obwa ddyo.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Ate Yuda n’alumba Abakanani abaabeeranga e Kebbulooni (edda ekyayitibwanga Kiriasualuba), mu lutalo olwali eyo mwe battira Sesayi, Akimaani ne Talumaayi.
11 And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
Ate n’avaayo n’alumba abaabeeranga e Debiri edda ekyayitibwanga Kiriasuseferi.
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
Awo Kalebu n’agamba nti, “Oyo alirumba Kiriasuseferi n’akiwamba ndimuwa muwala wange Akusa okumuwasa.”
13 Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
Osunieri, omwana wa Kenazi muto wa Kalebu n’akiwamba bw’atyo n’aweebwa Akusa okumuwasa.
14 And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?
Awo Osunieri bwe yamala okuwasa Akusa n’amufukuutirira asabe kitaawe ennimiro; Akusa n’addayo eri kitaawe, bwe yali ava ku ndogoyi, Kalebe n’amubuuza nti, “Oyagala ki?”
15 And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
N’amuddamu nti, “Wampa ensi nkalu ey’obukiikaddyo naye kaakano nnyongera ekitundu ekirimu n’enzizi ez’amazzi.” Kalebu n’amuwa ekitundu ekirimu enzizi ekyengulu n’ekyemmanga.
16 Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.
Abazzukulu b’Omukeeni, mukoddomi wa Musa ne bava mu kibuga eky’enkindu ne bagendera wamu n’abasajja ba Yuda ne batuuka mu ddungu lya Yuda eryali mu bukiikaddyo obwa Aladi ne babeera wamu n’abantu baayo.
17 Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
Awo Yuda n’agenda ne muganda we Simyoni ne balumba Abakanani abaabeeranga e Zefasi, ne babazikiririza ddala era ne bakituuma erinnya Koluma.
18 And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
Era Yuda n’awamba Gaza, Asukulooni ne Ekuloni n’ebitundu ebyetoolodde ebibuga bino.
19 And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
Mukama yali wamu ne Yuda n’awangula abantu abaabeeranga mu nsozi okuggyako yalemwa okuwangula abantu abaabeeranga mu kiwonvu kubanga baalina amagaali ag’ekyuma.
20 So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
Kebbulooni n’ekiweebwa Kalebu, nga Musa bwe yalagira, n’akifuumulamu batabani ba Anaki abasatu.
21 But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
Naye abasajja ba Benyamini tebaagoba Bayebusi abaabeeranga mu Yerusaalemi noolwekyo Abayebusi babeera wamu n’abasajja ba Benyamini mu Yerusaalemi n’okutuusa kaakano.

N’abasajja ba Yusufu ne balumba Beseri era Mukama yali wamu nabo.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.
Abasajja ba Yusufu ne batuma abakessi okuketta ekibuga ky’e Beseri edda ekyayitibwanga Luzi.
24 So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
Abakessi bwe baalaba omusajja ng’ava mu kibuga ne bamugamba nti, “Tukwegayiridde tulage omulyango oguyingira mu kibuga naffe tunaakuyisa bulungi.”
25 And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.
Awo bwe yabalaga awayingirirwa, ne bazikiriza n’ekitala abantu b’omu kibuga ekyo; ne batakola kabi konna ku musajja oyo n’ab’omu nnyumba ye bonna.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.
Omusajja oyo n’asengukira mu nsi y’Abakiiti, n’azimbayo n’ekibuga n’akituuma Luzi, n’okutuusa kaakano bwe kiyitibwa.
27 But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;

28 when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.
Awo Abayisirayiri bwe beeyongera amaanyi ne bawaliriza Abakanani okubakoleranga emirimu mu kifo ky’okugobwa mu nsi eyo.
29 And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.
Era ne Efulayimu teyagoba Bakanani naye yabakkiriza okubeera awamu naye mu Gezeri.
30 Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.
Era ne Zebbulooni teyagoba abantu abaabeeranga mu Kitulooni yadde abaabeeranga mu Nakaloli, naye Abakanani bano n’abakkiriza okubeeranga awamu naye nga bwe bamusasula omusolo.

32 but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.
naye Abakanani ne bakkirizibwa okubeera awamu n’abantu ba Aseri.
33 Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
Nafutaali teyagoba bantu abaabeeranga mu Besusemesi ne mu Besuanasi naye n’abakkirizanga okubeeranga awamu n’abantu be nga bwe bamusasula omusolo.
34 And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
Bo abasajja ba Ddaani tebaasobola kuwamba nsi y’Abamoli ey’omu kiwonvu era Abamoli ne babafuumuula ne baabazaayo mu nsozi.
35 and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.
Newaakubadde Abamoli baalwanirira nnyo okubeera ku lusozi Keresi, mu Ayalooni ne Saalubimu naye ab’omu kika kya Yusufu ne babafufuggaza era ne babawaliriza okubawanga omusolo.
