Genesis 32
1 And Jacob he went to way his and they met him [the] angels of God.
Mutta Jaakob kulki tietänsä; ja Jumalan enkeleitä tuli häntä vastaan.
2 And he said Jacob just when he saw them [is] [the] camp of God this and he called [the] name of the place that Mahanaim.
Ja nähdessään heidät Jaakob sanoi: "Tämä on Jumalan sotajoukkoa". Ja hän antoi sille paikalle nimen Mahanaim.
3 And he sent Jacob messengers before him to Esau brother his [the] land of towards Seir [the] region of Edom.
Sitten Jaakob lähetti sanansaattajat edellään veljensä Eesaun luo Seirin maahan, Edomin alueelle.
4 And he commanded them saying thus you will say! to lord my to Esau thus he says servant your Jacob with Laban I have sojourned and I have delayed until now.
Ja hän käski heitä sanoen: "Sanokaa herralleni Eesaulle näin: 'Sinun palvelijasi Jaakob sanoo: Minä olen oleskellut Laabanin luona ja viipynyt siellä tähän saakka;
5 And it be[longs] to me ox[en] and donkey[s] flock[s] and [male] servant[s] and female servant[s] and I have sent! to tell to lord my to find favor in eyes your.
ja minä olen saanut raavaita, aaseja, pikkukarjaa, palvelijoita ja palvelijattaria ja lähetän nyt sanan herralleni, että saisin armon sinun silmiesi edessä'."
6 And they returned the messengers to Jacob saying we went to brother your to Esau and also [he is] coming to meet you and four hundred man [are] with him.
Sanansaattajat palasivat Jaakobin luo ja sanoivat: "Me tulimme veljesi Eesaun luo; hän on jo matkalla sinua vastaan, neljäsataa miestä mukanaan".
7 And he was afraid Jacob exceedingly and it was distress to him and he divided the people which [was] with him and the flock and the herd and the camels into two camps.
Silloin valtasi Jaakobin suuri pelko ja ahdistus. Ja hän jakoi väen, joka oli hänen kanssansa, ja pikkukarjan ja raavaskarjan ja kamelit kahteen joukkoon.
8 And he said if he will come Esau to the camp one and he will attack it and it will become the camp which remains an escaped remnant.
Sillä hän ajatteli: "Jos Eesau hyökkää toisen joukon kimppuun ja tuhoaa sen, niin toinen joukko pääsee pakoon".
9 And he said Jacob O God of father my Abraham and [the] God of father my Isaac O Yahweh who said to me return to land your and to kindred your so let me do good with you.
Ja Jaakob sanoi: "Isäni Aabrahamin Jumala ja isäni Iisakin Jumala, Herra, sinä, joka sanoit minulle: 'Palaja maahasi ja sukusi luo, niin minä teen sinulle hyvää!'
10 I am [too] insignificant for all the covenant loyalti and for all the faithfulness which you have done with servant your for with staff my I passed over the Jordan this and now I have become two camps.
Minä olen liian halpa kaikkeen siihen armoon ja kaikkeen siihen uskollisuuteen, jota sinä olet palvelijallesi osoittanut; sillä ainoastaan sauva kädessäni minä kuljin tämän Jordanin yli, ja nyt on minulle karttunut kaksi joukkoa.
11 Deliver me please from [the] hand of brother my from [the] hand of Esau for [am] fearing I him lest he should come and he will attack me mother with children.
Pelasta minut veljeni Eesaun käsistä, sillä minä pelkään, että hän tulee ja tuhoaa minut ynnä äidit lapsineen.
12 And you you have said certainly I will do good with you and I will make offspring your like [the] sand of the sea which not it will be counted from multitude.
Olethan itse sanonut: 'Minä teen sinulle hyvää ja annan sinun jälkeläistesi luvun tulla paljoksi kuin meren hiekka, jota ei voida lukea sen paljouden tähden'."
13 And he stayed [the] night there in the night that and he took some of which came in hand his a gift for Esau brother his.
Ja hän jäi siihen siksi yöksi. Sitten hän erotti omaisuudestaan lahjaksi veljelleen Eesaulle
14 Female goats two hundred and male goats twenty ewes two hundred and rams twenty.
kaksisataa vuohta ja kaksikymmentä vuohipukkia, kaksisataa uuhta ja kaksikymmentä oinasta,
15 Camels milking and young their thirty cows forty and bulls ten female donkeys twenty and male donkeys ten.
kolmekymmentä imettävää kamelia varsoinensa, neljäkymmentä lehmää ja kymmenen härkää, kaksikymmentä aasintammaa ja kymmenen aasia.
16 And he gave [them] in [the] hand of servants his herd herd to only it and he said to servants his pass over before me and a space you will put between a herd and between a herd.
Ja hän jätti ne palvelijainsa haltuun, kunkin lauman erikseen, ja sanoi palvelijoilleen: "Menkää minun edelläni ja jättäkää välimatka kunkin lauman välille".
17 And he commanded the first saying that he will meet you Esau brother my and he will ask you saying [belong] to whom? you and where? are you going and [belong] to whom? these [animals] before you.
Ja hän käski ensimmäistä sanoen: "Kun veljeni Eesau kohtaa sinut ja kysyy: 'Kenen sinä olet, ja mihin menet, ja kenen ovat nuo elukat tuolla edelläsi?'
18 And you will say to servant your to Jacob [is] a gift it [which has] been sent to lord my to Esau and there! also he [is] behind us.
niin vastaa: 'Ne ovat palvelijasi Jaakobin, lähetetyt lahjaksi herralleni Eesaulle; ja katso, myös hän itse tulee jäljessämme'."
19 And he commanded both the second as well as the third as well as all who were going behind the herds saying according to the manner this you will speak! to Esau when find you him.
Samoin hän käski toista ja kolmatta ja kaikkia muita, jotka laumoja ajoivat, sanoen: "Juuri näin on teidän sanottava Eesaulle, kun tapaatte hänet.
20 And you will say also there! servant your Jacob [is] behind us for he said I will cover face his by the gift that is going before me and after thus I will see face his perhaps he will lift up face my.
Ja sanokaa myös: 'Katso, sinun palvelijasi Jaakob tulee meidän jäljessämme'." Sillä hän ajatteli: "Minä koetan lepyttää häntä lahjalla, joka kulkee edelläni. Sitten astun itse hänen kasvojensa eteen; ehkä hän ottaa minut ystävällisesti vastaan."
21 And it passed on the gift on face his and he [was] staying [the] night in the night that in the camp.
Niin lahja kulki hänen edellänsä, mutta itse hän jäi siksi yöksi leiriin.
22 And he rose - in the night that and he took [the] two wives his and [the] two maidservants his and one plus ten sons his and he passed over [the] ford of Jabbok.
Mutta yöllä hän nousi, otti molemmat vaimonsa ja molemmat orjattarensa ja yksitoista lastansa ja meni kahlauspaikasta Jabbokin yli.
23 And he took them and he sent over them the wadi and he sent over [that] which [belonged] to him.

24 And he remained Jacob to only him and he wrestled a man with him until came up the dawn.

25 And he saw that not he prevailed to him and he touched [the] socket of thigh his and it was dislocated [the] socket of [the] thigh of Jacob when wrestled he with him.
Ja kun mies huomasi, ettei hän häntä voittanut, iski hän häntä lonkkaluuhun, niin että Jaakobin lonkka nyrjähti hänen painiskellessaan hänen kanssaan.
26 And he said let go me for it has come up the dawn and he said not I will let go you that except you have blessed me.
Ja mies sanoi: "Päästä minut, sillä päivä koittaa". Mutta hän vastasi: "En päästä sinua, ellet siunaa minua".
27 And he said to him what? [is] name your and he said Jacob.
Ja hän sanoi hänelle: "Mikä sinun nimesi on?" Hän vastasi: "Jaakob".
28 And he said not Jacob it will be called again name your that except Israel for you have struggled with God and with people and you have prevailed.
Silloin hän sanoi: "Sinun nimesi älköön enää olko Jaakob, vaan Israel, sillä sinä olet taistellut Jumalan ja ihmisten kanssa ja olet voittanut".
29 And he asked Jacob and he said tell! please name your and he said why? this do you ask to name my and he blessed him there.
Ja Jaakob kysyi ja sanoi: "Ilmoita nimesi". Hän vastasi: "Miksi kysyt minun nimeäni?" Ja hän siunasi hänet siinä.
30 And he called Jacob [the] name of the place Peniel for I have seen God face to face and it has been delivered life my.
Ja Jaakob antoi sille paikalle nimen Penuel, "sillä", sanoi hän, "minä olen nähnyt Jumalan kasvoista kasvoihin, ja kuitenkin on minun henkeni pelastunut".
31 And it rose to him the sun just when he passed over Penuel and he [was] limping on thigh his.
Ja kun hän oli kulkenut Penuelin ohitse, nousi aurinko; mutta hän ontui lonkkaansa.
32 There-fore not they eat [the] people of Israel [the] sinew of the tendon which [is] on [the] socket of the thigh until the day this for he touched [the] socket of [the] thigh of Jacob [the] sinew of the tendon.
Sentähden israelilaiset eivät vielä tänäkään päivänä syö reisijännettä, joka kulkee lonkkaluun yli; sillä hän iski Jaakobia lonkkaluuhun, reisijänteen kohdalle.
