Judges 1
1 And it was after [the] death of Joshua and they enquired [the] people of Israel by Yahweh saying who? will he go up for us against the Canaanite[s] at the first to engage in battle against him.
| ויהי אחרי מות יהושע וישאלו בני ישראל ביהוה לאמר מי יעלה לנו אל הכנעני בתחלה להלחם בו׃ |
2 And he said Yahweh Judah he will go up here! I have given the land in hand his.
| ויאמר יהוה יהודה יעלה הנה נתתי את הארץ בידו׃ |
3 And he said Judah to Simeon brother his come up with me in lot my so let us fight against the Canaanite[s] and I will go also I with you in lot your and he went with him Simeon.
| ויאמר יהודה לשמעון אחיו עלה אתי בגורלי ונלחמה בכנעני והלכתי גם אני אתך בגורלך וילך אתו שמעון׃ |
4 And he went up Judah and he gave Yahweh the Canaanite[s] and the Perizzite[s] in hand their and they defeated them at Bezek ten thousand man.
| ויעל יהודה ויתן יהוה את הכנעני והפרזי בידם ויכום בבזק עשרת אלפים איש׃ |
5 And they found Adoni-Bezek at Bezek and they fought against him and they defeated the Canaanite[s] and the Perizzite[s].
| וימצאו את אדני בזק בבזק וילחמו בו ויכו את הכנעני ואת הפרזי׃ |
6 And he fled Adoni-Bezek and they pursued after him and they seized him and they cut off [the] thumbs of hands his and feet his.
| וינס אדני בזק וירדפו אחריו ויאחזו אתו ויקצצו את בהנות ידיו ורגליו׃ |
7 And he said Adoni-Bezek seventy - kings [the] thumbs of hands their and feet their cut off they were gathering up under table my just as I have done so he has repaid to me God and they brought him Jerusalem and he died there.
| ויאמר אדני בזק שבעים מלכים בהנות ידיהם ורגליהם מקצצים היו מלקטים תחת שלחני כאשר עשיתי כן שלם לי אלהים ויביאהו ירושלם וימת שם׃ |
8 And they fought [the] descendants of Judah against Jerusalem and they captured it and they struck it to [the] mouth of [the] sword and the city they sent in fire.
| וילחמו בני יהודה בירושלם וילכדו אותה ויכוה לפי חרב ואת העיר שלחו באש׃ |
9 And after they went down [the] descendants of Judah to fight against the Canaanite[s] [who] dwelt of the hill country and the Negev and the Shephelah.
| ואחר ירדו בני יהודה להלחם בכנעני יושב ההר והנגב והשפלה׃ |
10 And he went Judah against the Canaanite[s] who dwelt in Hebron and [the] name of Hebron before [was] Kiriath Arba and they defeated Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.
| וילך יהודה אל הכנעני היושב בחברון ושם חברון לפנים קרית ארבע ויכו את ששי ואת אחימן ואת תלמי׃ |
11 And he went from there against [the] inhabitants of Debir and [the] name of Debir before [was] Kiriath Sepher.
| וילך משם אל יושבי דביר ושם דביר לפנים קרית ספר׃ |
12 And he said Caleb [the one] who he will strike Kiriath Sepher and he will capture it and I will give to him Achsah daughter my to a wife.
| ויאמר כלב אשר יכה את קרית ספר ולכדה ונתתי לו את עכסה בתי לאשה׃ |
13 And he captured it Othniel [the] son of Kenaz [the] brother of Caleb young more than him and he gave to him Achsah daughter his to a wife.
| וילכדה עתניאל בן קנז אחי כלב הקטן ממנו ויתן לו את עכסה בתו לאשה׃ |
14 And it was when came she and she incited him to ask from with father her the field and she went down from on the donkey and he said to her Caleb what? [is] to you.
| ויהי בבואה ותסיתהו לשאול מאת אביה השדה ותצנח מעל החמור ויאמר לה כלב מה לך׃ |
15 And she said to him give! to me a blessing for [the] land of the Negev you have given to me and you will give to me springs of water and he gave to her Caleb springs upper and springs lower.
| ותאמר לו הבה לי ברכה כי ארץ הנגב נתתני ונתתה לי גלת מים ויתן לה כלב את גלת עלית ואת גלת תחתית׃ |
16 And [the] descendants of [the] Kenite [the] father-in-law of Moses they went up from [the] city of the palm trees with [the] descendants of Judah [the] wilderness of Judah which [is] in [the] Negev Arad and he went and he dwelt with the people.
| ובני קיני חתן משה עלו מעיר התמרים את בני יהודה מדבר יהודה אשר בנגב ערד וילך וישב את העם׃ |
17 And he went Judah with Simeon brother his and they attacked the Canaanite[s] [who] dwelt of Zephath and they totally destroyed it and he called [the] name of the city Hormah.
| וילך יהודה את שמעון אחיו ויכו את הכנעני יושב צפת ויחרימו אותה ויקרא את שם העיר חרמה׃ |
18 And he captured Judah Gaza and territory its and Ashkelon and territory its and Ekron and territory its.
| וילכד יהודה את עזה ואת גבולה ואת אשקלון ואת גבולה ואת עקרון ואת גבולה׃ |
19 And he was Yahweh (with *L(abh)*) Judah and it took possession of the hill country for not to dispossess [the] inhabitants of the valley for chariotry of iron [belonged] to them.
| ויהי יהוה את יהודה וירש את ההר כי לא להוריש את ישבי העמק כי רכב ברזל להם׃ |
20 And people gave to Caleb Hebron just as he had said Moses and he dispossessed from there three [the] sons of Anak.
| ויתנו לכלב את חברון כאשר דבר משה ויורש משם את שלשה בני הענק׃ |
21 And the Jebusite[s] [who] dwelt of Jerusalem not they dispossessed [the] descendants of Benjamin and he has dwelt the Jebusite[s] with [the] descendants of Benjamin in Jerusalem until the day this.
| ואת היבוסי ישב ירושלם לא הורישו בני בנימן וישב היבוסי את בני בנימן בירושלם עד היום הזה׃ |
22 And they went up [the] house of Joseph also they Beth-el and Yahweh [was] with them.
| ויעלו בית יוסף גם הם בית אל ויהוה עמם׃ |
23 And they caused to spy out [the] house of Joseph at Beth-el and [the] name of the city before [was] Luz.
| ויתירו בית יוסף בבית אל ושם העיר לפנים לוז׃ |
24 And they saw those [who] watched a man coming out from the city and they said to him show us please [the] entrance of the city and we will do with you loyalty.
| ויראו השמרים איש יוצא מן העיר ויאמרו לו הראנו נא את מבוא העיר ועשינו עמך חסד׃ |
25 And he showed them [the] entrance of the city and they struck the city to [the] mouth of [the] sword and the man and all family his they let go.
| ויראם את מבוא העיר ויכו את העיר לפי חרב ואת האיש ואת כל משפחתו שלחו׃ |
26 And he went the man [the] land of the Hittites and he built a city and he called name its Luz that [is] name its until the day this.
| וילך האיש ארץ החתים ויבן עיר ויקרא שמה לוז הוא שמה עד היום הזה׃ |
27 And not it took possession of Manasseh Beth Shean and daughters its and Taanach and daughters its and ([the] inhabitants of *Q(K)*) Dor and daughters its and [the] inhabitants of Ibleam and daughters its and [the] inhabitants of Megiddo and daughters its and it was determined the Canaanite[s] to dwell in the land this.
| ולא הוריש מנשה את בית שאן ואת בנותיה ואת תענך ואת בנתיה ואת ישב דור ואת בנותיה ואת יושבי יבלעם ואת בנתיה ואת יושבי מגדו ואת בנותיה ויואל הכנעני לשבת בארץ הזאת׃ |
28 And it was that it became strong Israel and it made the Canaanite[s] into forced labor and certainly not it dispossessed him.
| ויהי כי חזק ישראל וישם את הכנעני למס והוריש לא הורישו׃ |
29 And Ephraim not it dispossessed the Canaanite[s] who dwelt in Gezer and it dwelt the Canaanite[s] in midst its in Gezer.
| ואפרים לא הוריש את הכנעני היושב בגזר וישב הכנעני בקרבו בגזר׃ |
30 Zebulun not it dispossessed [the] inhabitants of Kitron and [the] inhabitants of Nahalol and it dwelt the Canaanite[s] in midst its and they became forced labor.
| זבולן לא הוריש את יושבי קטרון ואת יושבי נהלל וישב הכנעני בקרבו ויהיו למס׃ |
31 Asher not it dispossessed [the] inhabitants of Acco and [the] inhabitants of Sidon and Ahlab and Aczib and Helbah and Aphek and Rehob.
| אשר לא הוריש את ישבי עכו ואת יושבי צידון ואת אחלב ואת אכזיב ואת חלבה ואת אפיק ואת רחב׃ |
32 And it dwelt the Asherite[s] in [the] midst of the Canaanite[s] [the] inhabitants of the land for not it dispossessed it.
| וישב האשרי בקרב הכנעני ישבי הארץ כי לא הורישו׃ |
33 Naphtali not it dispossessed [the] inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and [the] inhabitants of Beth Anath and it dwelt in [the] midst of the Canaanite[s] [the] inhabitants of the land and [the] inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath they became for them forced labor.
| נפתלי לא הוריש את ישבי בית שמש ואת ישבי בית ענת וישב בקרב הכנעני ישבי הארץ וישבי בית שמש ובית ענת היו להם למס׃ |
34 And they pressed the Amorite[s] [the] descendants of Dan the hill country towards for not it permitted it to go down to the valley.
| וילחצו האמרי את בני דן ההרה כי לא נתנו לרדת לעמק׃ |
35 And it was determined the Amorite[s] to dwell in [the] mountain of Heres in Aijalon and in Shaalbim and it was heavy [the] hand of [the] house of Joseph and they became forced labor.
| ויואל האמרי לשבת בהר חרס באילון ובשעלבים ותכבד יד בית יוסף ויהיו למס׃ |
36 And [the] border of the Amorite[s] [was] from [the] ascent of scorpions from Sela and up-wards.
| וגבול האמרי ממעלה עקרבים מהסלע ומעלה׃ |
