Numbers 27
1 One day the five daughters of Zelophehad came [to Moses/me]. They were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
Et se présentèrent les filles de Tselophehad, fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, de l'une des familles de Manassé, fils de Joseph; or voici les noms de ses filles: Mahela, Noa et Hogla et Milca et Thirtsa;
2 They came to the entrance of the Sacred Tent and stood in front of Eleazar, Moses/me, the tribal leaders, and many [EUP] other Israeli people.
et elles comparurent devant Moïse et devant le Prêtre Eléazar et devant les Princes et toute l'Assemblée à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous et dirent:
3 They said, “Our father died [during the time that we were] in the desert, and he did not have any sons. But he was not among those who supported Korah, who rebelled against Yahweh. He died just because he was a sinner [like everyone else].
Notre père est mort dans le désert; il ne faisait point partie de la troupe conjurée contre l'Éternel, de la troupe de Coré, mais il est mort pour son péché, et il n'avait pas de fils.
4 (Why should the name of his clan disappear [with the result that we do not receive any land] only because our father had no sons?/It is not right that the name of his clan disappear [with the result that we do not receive any land] only because our father had no sons.) [RHQ] So give us some land like our relatives will be getting!”
Pourquoi le nom de notre père disparaîtrait-il de sa famille, parce qu'il n'avait pas de fils? Donne-nous un bien-fonds parmi les frères de notre père.
5 So Moses/I asked Yahweh [what to do about] their request.
Et Moïse porta leur affaire devant l'Éternel.
6 And Yahweh replied,
Alors l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
7 “What the daughters of Zelophehad are requesting is right. You must give them some land, just as you are giving to their father’s relatives. Give to each of them some of the land that would have been given to their brothers [if they had any].
Les filles de Tselophehad ont raison dans ce qu'elles disent: donne-leur un bien-fonds en propriété parmi les frères de leur père, et tu leur transmettras l'héritage de leur père.
8 “Also tell this to the Israeli people: ‘If a man who has no sons dies, give the things that his sons would have inherited to his daughters.
Et tu parleras aux enfants d'Israël et diras: Quand un homme mourra sans laisser de fils, vous transmettrez son héritage à sa fille.
9 If the man has no sons or daughters, give to his brothers the things that his sons and daughters would have inherited.
Et s'il n'a pas de fille, vous donnerez son héritage à son frère.
10 If the man had no brothers, give to his father’s brothers the things that his sons or daughters or brothers would have inherited.
Et s'il n'a point de frère, vous donnerez son héritage aux frères de son père.
11 If the man’s father has no brothers, give to his closest relative the things that the others would have inherited.’ That will be a rule for the Israeli people, because I am giving this as a command to you, Moses, [to tell them].”
Et si son père n'a point de frères, vous donnerez son héritage dans sa famille à son parent consanguin le plus proche, afin qu'il ait cette succession; et que ce soit là pour les enfants d'Israël une règle de droit, ainsi que l'Éternel l'ordonne à Moïse.
12 One day, Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Climb to the top of the Abarim Mountains [east of the Jordan River]. Then look out over the land that I am giving to the Israeli people.
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse: Monte sur cette montagne d'Abarim, et vois le pays que j'ai donné aux enfants d'Israël.
13 After you have seen it, you will die [EUP] just like your [older] brother Aaron did.
Et après l'avoir vu, tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple, toi aussi, comme Aaron ton frère a été recueilli,
14 The reason [that you will die and not enter that land] is that you both disobeyed my instructions/commands in the Zin Desert. When the Israeli people rebelled against me there at Meribah, near Kadesh, [I told you to speak to the rock to cause] water to flow out of it. [But because you struck the rock instead of speaking to it], you did not show the people my holy power.”
parce que, dans le désert de Tsin, lorsque l'Assemblée se mutina, vous avez résisté à mon ordre de manifester ma sainteté en faisant jaillir l'eau à leurs yeux. (Ce sont les Eaux de la Querelle à Cadès dans le désert de Tsin.)
15 Then Moses/I said this to Yahweh:
Et Moïse parla à l'Éternel et dit:
16 “Yahweh, you are the God who directs the spirits of all people. So please appoint a new leader for the Israeli people.
Que l'Éternel, Dieu des esprits de toute chair, prépose un homme sur l'Assemblée,
17 Appoint someone who will lead your people when they go to fight a battle, so that they will not [just wander around] like sheep that do not have a shepherd.” [SIM]
lequel sorte à leur tête et entre à leur tête et qui les mène en campagne et les ramène, afin que l'Assemblée de l'Éternel ne soit pas comme un troupeau sans berger.
18 Yahweh replied, “Get Joshua, the son of Nun, who has my Spirit within him. Lay your hands on him [to appoint him].
Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Prends Josué, fils de Nun, homme en qui l'esprit se trouve, et pose ta main sur lui,
19 Cause him to stand in front of Eleazar the priest, as all the people are watching, and commission/appoint him to be the new leader of the Israeli people.
et le présente au Prêtre Eléazar et à toute l'Assemblée et donne lui tes instructions en leur présence;
20 Give to him some of the authority that you now have, in order that all the Israeli people will [know that they must] obey him.
et mets-le en part de ton autorité, pour que toute l'Assemblée des enfants d'Israël [lui] obéisse.
21 When you all need me to guide you, Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar. Then by (casting lots/throwing marked stones on the ground) Eleazar will find out what they should do.”
Et il se présentera au Prêtre Eléazar, et que celui-ci consulte pour lui par le rite de l'Urim devant l'Éternel, et à son ordre sortiront et à son ordre entreront lui et tous les enfants d'Israël avec lui et toute l'Assemblée.
22 So Moses/I did what Yahweh commanded. He/I presented Joshua to Eleazar and to all the Israeli people.
Et Moïse se conforma à l'ordre de l'Éternel et prit Josué, et le présenta au Prêtre Eléazar et à toute l'Assemblée,
23 Moses/I laid his/my hands on him and commissioned/appointed him to do the work that Yahweh told Moses/me to tell him to do.
et il posa ses mains sur lui, et lui donna ses instructions, ainsi que l'Éternel l'avait dit par l'organe de Moïse.
