Genesis 28
1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
Alors Isaac fit venir Jacob et le bénit, et il lui donna ses ordres en ces termes: Tu ne prendras point de femme parmi les filles de Canaan.
2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from there of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
Lève-toi et t'en va en Mésopotamie dans la maison de Béthuel, père de ta mère, et là choisis-toi une femme parmi les filles de Laban, frère de ta mère.
3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
Et que Dieu, le Tout-Puissant, te bénisse et te rende fécond et te multiplie, afin que tu deviennes une multitude de peuples.
4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land in which thou art a stranger, which God gave to Abraham.
Et qu'il te confère la bénédiction d'Abraham, à toi et à ta postérité avec toi, afin que tu possèdes le pays de tes pèlerinages, que Dieu a donné à Abraham.
5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
Et Isaac congédia Jacob, qui prit son chemin vers la Mésopotamie, vers Laban, fils de Bcthuel, l'Araméen, frère de Rebecca, mère de Jacob et d'Esaü.
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from there; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
Et Esaü voyant qu'Isaac avait béni Jacob et l'avait envoyé en Mésopotamie pour s'y choisir une femme, en le bénissant et lui donnant cet ordre: Tu ne prendras point de femme parmi les filles de Canaan;
7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;
et que Jacob avait obéi à son père et à sa mère et était parti pour la Mésopotamie,
8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
Esaü vit alors que les filles de Canaan déplaisaient à son père Isaac,
9 Then went Esau to Ishmael, and took to the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
et Esaü alla chez Ismaël, et en sus des femmes qu'il avait, il épousa Mahalath, fille d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham, sœur de Nebaioth.
10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
Ainsi Jacob partit de Beersébah et gagna Charan.
11 And he came to a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
Et étant arrivé en un certain lieu, il y passa la nuit, car le soleil était couché. Et prenant une des pierres de l'endroit il en fit son chevet, et il coucha dans ce lieu-là.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set upon the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
Alors il eut un songe, et voici, une échelle était dressée sur la terre, et son sommet touchait au ciel, et voici, les anges de Dieu la montaient et la descendaient.
13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
Et voici, l'Éternel se tenait au-dessus d'elle et disait: Je suis l'Éternel, Dieu d'Abraham, ton père, et Dieu d'Isaac. Cette terre où tu es couché, je te la donnerai à toi et à ta postérité.
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Et ta postérité deviendra comme la poussière de la terre, et tu t'étendras à l'occident et à l'orient et au septentrion et au midi, et toutes les races de la terre auront leur bénédiction dans toi et dans ta postérité.
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places where thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have promised to thee.
Et voici, je suis avec toi pour te garder partout où tu iras, et te ramener dans ce pays; car je ne te quitterai point que je n'aie exécuté ce que je t'ai promis.
16 And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
Alors Jacob se réveilla de son sommeil et dit: En vérité, l'Éternel est en ce lieu, et je ne le savais pas!
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is no other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
Et il eut crainte et dit: Que ce lieu est redoutable! Ce n'est autre chose que la maison de Dieu, et c'est la porte des cieux!
18 And Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.
Et Jacob se leva le matin, et prit la pierre dont il avait fait son chevet, et l'érigea en monument et versa de l'huile sur sa cime.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
Et il donna à ce lieu le nom de Béthel (maison de Dieu); or dans l'origine Luz était le nom de la ville.
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
Et Jacob prononça un vœu en ces termes: Si Dieu est avec moi et me garde pendant le voyage que je fais maintenant, et me donne du pain pour me nourrir et des habits pour me vêtir,
21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
et si je reviens sain et sauf dans la maison de mon père, l'Éternel sera mon Dieu,
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth to thee.
et cette pierre que j'ai dressée comme monument, deviendra une maison de Dieu, et je Te paierai la dîme de tout ce que Tu me donneras.
