Romans 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Il n’y a donc pas maintenant de condamnation pour ceux qui sont en Jésus-Christ, qui ne marchent pas selon la chair.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Parce que la loi de l’esprit de vie, qui est dans le Christ Jésus, m’a affranchi de la loi du péché et de la mort.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Car ce qui était impossible à la loi, parce qu’elle était affaiblie par la chair, Dieu, envoyant son Fils dans une chair semblable à celle du péché, a condamné le péché dans la chair à cause du péché même,
4 That the righteousness of the law may be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Afin que la justification de la loi s’accomplît en nous qui ne marchons point selon la chair, mais selon l’esprit.
5 For they that are according to the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are according to the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
En effet, ceux qui sont selon la chair goûtent les choses de la chair; mais ceux qui sont selon l’esprit ont le sentiment des choses de l’esprit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Or la prudence de la chair est mort; mais la prudence de l’esprit est vie et paix;
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Parce que la sagesse de la chair est ennemie de Dieu; car elle n’est point soumise à la loi de Dieu, et elle ne le peut.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Ceux donc qui sont dans la chair ne peuvent plaire à Dieu.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. Now if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.
Pour vous, vous n’êtes point dans la chair, mais dans l’esprit, si toutefois l’esprit de Dieu habite en vous. Or si quelqu’un n’a point l’esprit du Christ, celui-là n’est point à lui.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Mais si le Christ est en vous, quoique le corps soit mort à cause du péché, l’esprit vit par l’effet de la justification.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised Christ from the dead shall also give life to your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Que si l’Esprit de celui qui a ressuscité Jésus d’entre les morts habite en vous, celui qui a ressuscité Jésus-Christ d’entre les morts vivifiera aussi vos corps mortels par son Esprit qui habite en vous.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
Ainsi, mes frères, nous ne sommes point redevables à la chair, pour vivre selon la chair.
13 For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Car si c’est selon la chair que vous vivez, vous mourrez; mais si par l’esprit vous mortifiez les œuvres de la chair, vous vivrez.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Attendu que tous ceux qui sont conduits par l’Esprit de Dieu, ceux-là sont fils de Dieu.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.
Aussi vous n’avez point reçu de nouveau l’esprit de servitude qui inspire la crainte; mais vous avez reçu l’esprit d’adoption des fils, dans lequel nous crions: Abba (Père).
16 The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
En effet, l’Esprit lui-même rend témoignage à notre esprit que nous sommes enfants de Dieu.
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together.
Mais si nous sommes enfants, nous sommes aussi héritiers; héritiers de Dieu et cohéritiers de Jésus-Christ, pourvu cependant que nous souffrions avec lui, afin d’être glorifiés avec lui.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Or j’estime que les souffrances du temps présent ne sont pas dignes de la gloire future qui sera révélée en nous.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.
Aussi la créature attend d’une vive attente la manifestation des enfants de Dieu.
20 For the creation was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
Car elle est assujettie à la vanité, non point volontairement, mais à cause de celui qui l’y a assujettie dans l’espérance,
21 Because the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Qu’elle-même, créature, sera aussi affranchie de la servitude de la corruption, pour passer à la liberté de la gloire des enfants de Dieu.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Car nous savons que toutes les créatures gémissent et sont dans le travail de l’enfantement jusqu’à cette heure.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, that is, the redemption of our body.
Et non-seulement elles, mais aussi nous-mêmes qui avons les prémices de l’Esprit; oui, nous-mêmes nous gémissons au dedans de nous, attendant l’adoption des enfants de Dieu, la rédemption de notre corps.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Car c’est en espérance que nous avons été sauvés. Or l’espérance qui se voit n’est pas de l’espérance; car ce que quelqu’un voit, comment l’espérerait-il?
25 But if we hope for what we see not, then with patience we wait for it.
Et si nous espérons ce que nous ne voyons pas encore, nous l’attendons par la patience.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
De même l’Esprit aussi aide notre faiblesse, car nous ne savons ce que nous devons demander dans la prière; mais l’Esprit lui-même demande pour nous avec des gémissements inénarrables.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Et celui qui scrute les cœurs sait ce que désire l’Esprit; car c’est selon Dieu qu’il demande pour les saints.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Or nous savons que tout coopère au bien pour ceux qui aiment Dieu, pour ceux qui, selon son décret, sont appelés à être saints.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Car ceux qu’il a connus par sa prescience, il les a aussi prédestinés à être conformes à l’image de son Fils, afin qu’il fût lui-même le premier-né entre beaucoup de frères.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Et ceux qu’il a prédestinés, il les a appelés; et ceux qu’il a appelés, il lésa aussi justifiés, et ceux qu’il a justifiés, il les a aussi glorifiés.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Que dirons-nous donc après cela? Si Dieu est pour nous, qui sera contre nous?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Lui qui n’a pas épargné même son propre Fils, mais qui l’a livré pour nous tous, comment ne nous aurait-il pas donné toutes choses avec lui?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
Qui accusera les élus de Dieu? C’est Dieu qui les justifie;
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, or rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Quel est celui qui les condamnerait? C’est le Christ Jésus qui est mort pour eux, qui de plus est ressuscité, qui est à la droite du Père, et qui même intercède pour nous.
35 What shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Qui donc nous séparera de l’amour du Christ? Est-ce la tribulation? est-ce l’angoisse? est-ce la faim? est-ce la nudité? est-ce le péril? est-ce la persécution? est-ce le glaive?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
(Selon qu’il est écrit: À cause de vous, nous sommes mis à mort tout le jour; on nous regarde comme des brebis de tuerie.)
37 But, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Mais en tout cela nous triomphons par celui qui nous a aimés.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Car je suis certain que ni mort, ni vie, ni anges, ni principautés, ni puissances, ni choses présentes, ni choses futures, ni violence,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ni ce qu’il y a de plus élevé, ni ce qu’il y a de plus profond, ni aucune autre créature, ne pourra nous séparer de l’amour de Dieu, qui est dans le Christ Jésus Notre Seigneur.
