Luke 1
1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
Da nun schon Manche versucht haben, eine Erzählung von den bei uns beglaubigten Begebenheiten zu verfassen,
2 Even as they delivered them to us, who from the beginning were eye-witnesses, and ministers of the word;
so wie es uns die ursprünglichen Augenzeugen und Diener des Wortes überliefert haben,
3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
so habe auch ich mich entschlossen, nachdem ich allem von vorne an genau nachgegangen, es für dich, hochgeehrter Theophilus, nach der Reihenfolge niederzuschreiben,
4 That thou mayest know the certainty of those things in which thou hast been instructed.
damit du dich von der Gewißheit der Geschichten, die du in deinem Unterricht erfuhrst, überzeugen könnest.
5 There was in the days of Herod the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife [was] of the daughters of Aaron, and her name [was] Elisabeth.
Es war in den Tagen Herodes, des Königs von Judäa, ein Priester mit Namen Zacharias aus der Tagesklasse Abia, und derselbe hatte eine Frau aus den Töchtern Aaron, die hieß Elisabet.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Es waren aber beide gerecht vor Gott, wandelnd in allen Geboten und Gerechtsamen des Herrn, ohne Tadel.
7 And they had no child, because Elisabeth was barren, and they both were far advanced in years.
Und sie hatten kein Kind, dieweil Elisabet unfruchtbar war, und beide waren hochbetagt.
8 And it came to pass, that, while he executed the priests' office before God in the order of his course,
Es geschah aber, da er, weil seine Tagklasse an der Reihe war, den Priesterdienst hatte vor Gott,
9 According to the custom of the priests' office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
traf ihn nach dem Brauche der Priesterschaft das Los, zu räuchern und hiezu in den Tempel des Herrn zu treten.
10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without, at the time of incense.
Und die ganze Versammlung des Volks war außerhalb im Gebet in der Stunde des Rauchopfers.
11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
Es erschien ihm aber ein Engel des Herrn, zur Rechten des Räucheraltars stehend.
12 And when Zacharias saw [him], he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
Und Zacharias, da er es sah, ward bestürzt und Furcht kam über ihn.
13 But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Der Engel aber sprach zu ihm: fürchte dich nicht, Zacharias, dieweil deine Bitte erhört ist, und deine Frau Elisabet wird dir einen Sohn gebären, und du wirst ihm den Namen Johannes geben;
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth.
und du wirst Freude und Wonne haben, und viele werden sich seiner Geburt freuen.
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
Denn er wird groß sein vor dem Herrn, Wein und Gebranntes wird er nicht trinken, und wird mit heiligem Geist erfüllt sein vom Mutterleib an,
16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
und viele der Söhne Israels wird er bekehren zu dem Herrn ihrem Gott;
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
und er wird dahingehen vor ihm in Geist und Kraft des Elias, zu wenden die Herzen der Väter zu den Kindern und die Ungehorsamen zum Sinne der Gerechten, zu bereiten dem Herrn ein gerüstetes Volk.
18 And Zacharias said to the angel, By what shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife far advanced in years.
Und Zacharias sagte zu dem Engel: woran soll ich das erkennen? bin ich doch ein Greis und meine Frau ist vorgerückt in Jahren.
19 And the angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak to thee, and to show thee these glad tidings.
Und der Engel antwortete und sagte zu ihm: ich bin Gabriel, der da steht vor Gott, und bin abgesandt zu dir zu reden und dir diese frohe Botschaft zu bringen.
20 And behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words which shall be fulfilled in their season.
Und siehe, du wirst schweigen müssen und unvermögend sein zu reden, bis zu dem Tage, da dies geschieht, dafür daß du meinen Worten nicht geglaubt hast, als welche zu ihrer Zeit erfüllt werden sollen.
21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he tarried so long in the temple.
Und das Volk war in Erwartung auf Zacharias, und sie wunderten sich darüber, daß er so lange blieb im Tempel.
22 And when he came out, he could not speak to them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; for he beckoned to them, and remained speechless.
Da er aber herauskam, vermochte er nicht zu ihnen zu reden, und sie erkannten, daß er ein Gesicht im Tempel gesehen; und er winkte ihnen zu, und blieb stumm.
23 And it came to pass, that as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
Und es geschah, wie die Tage seines Dienstes voll waren, gieng er fort nach Hause.
24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and secluded herself five months, saying,
Nach diesen Tagen aber empfieng Elisabet seine Frau, und verbarg sich fünf Monate und sagte:
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days in which he looked on [me], to take away my reproach among men.
also hat der Herr mir gethan in den Tagen, die er ersehen hat, meine Schmach wegzunehmen bei den Menschen.
26 And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
Im sechsten Monat aber wurde der Engel Gabriel von Gott gesandt in eine galiläische Stadt mit Namen Nazaret,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary.
zu einer Jungfrau, die einem Mann mit Namen Joseph verlobt war, aus dem Hause David, und die Jungfrau hieß Mariam.
28 And the angel came to her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favored, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.
Und der Engel trat zu ihr ein und sprach: sei gegrüßt, du Begnadigte, der Herr sei mit dir.
29 And when she saw [him], she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
Sie aber ward bestürzt über dem Worte, und sann darüber nach, was das für ein Gruß sei.
30 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
Und der Engel sagte zu ihr: fürchte dich nicht, Mariam, denn du hast Gnade gefunden bei Gott.
31 And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Und siehe, du wirst empfangen im Schoß, und wirst einen Sohn gebären, und wirst ihm den Namen Jesus geben.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.
Der wird groß sein und ein Sohn des Höchsten genannt werden, und Gott der Herr wir ihm geben den Thron seines Vaters David,
33 And he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. (aiōn g165)
und er wird König sein über das Haus Jakob in Ewigkeit, und seines Königreichs wird kein Ende sein. (aiōn g165)
34 Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Mariam aber sagte zu dem Engel: wie soll das geschehen, da ich keinen Mann kenne?
35 And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Highest will overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Und der Engel antwortete und sprach zu ihr: heiliger Geist wird über dich kommen und Kraft des Höchsten wird dich beschatten; darum wird auch, was da entsteht, heilig genannt werden, Sohn Gottes.
36 And behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren:
Und siehe, Elisabet deine Verwandte hat gleichfalls einen Sohn empfangen, in ihrem Alter, und ist jetzt im sechsten Monat, sie, die unfruchtbar hieß.
37 For with God nothing will be impossible.
Denn bei Gott ist kein Ding unmöglich.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Mariam aber sprach: siehe, ich bin des Herrn Magd; es geschehe mir nach deinem Wort; und der Engel wich von ihr.
39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah,
Mariam aber stand auf in diesen Tagen und wanderte in das Gebirge eilig einer Stadt in Juda zu;
40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
und trat in das Haus des Zacharias und begrüßte die Elisabet.
41 And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb: and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Und es geschah, wie Elisabet den Gruß der Mariam hörte, hüpfte das Kind in ihrem Leibe.
42 And she spoke with a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
Und Elisabet ward voll heiligen Geistes und brach aus mit lauter Stimme in die Worte: Gesegnet bist du unter den Weibern, gesegnet die Frucht deines Leibes.
43 And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Und woher wird mir das, daß die Mutter meines Herrn zu mir kommt?
44 For lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Denn siehe, wie die Stimme deines Grußes in mein Ohr drang, da hüpfte im Jubel das Kind in meinem Leibe.
45 And blessed [is] she that believed that there will be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Und selig, die geglaubt hat, daß zur Vollendung kommen wird, was vom Herrn zu ihr geredet ist.
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Und Mariam sprach: Es war in den Tagen Herodes, des Königs von Judäa, ein Priester mit Namen Zacharias aus der Tagesklasse Abia, und derselbe hatte eine Frau aus den Töchtern Aaron, die hieß Elisabet.
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.
Meine Seele lobet den Herrn,
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for behold, from henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
und mein Geist frohlockte über Gott meinen Erlöser, daß er angesehen hat die Niedrigkeit seiner Magd. Denn siehe, von nun an werden mich selig preisen alle Geschlechter,
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things, and holy [is] his name.
daß der Gewaltige Großes an mir gethan. Und heilig ist sein Name.
50 And his mercy [is] on them that fear him, from generation to generation.
Und sein Erbarmen währt von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht für die, die ihn fürchten.
51 He hath shown strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
Er hat Kraft geübt mit seinem Arm. Er hat zerstreut, die da hoffärtig sind in ihres Herzens Sinn.
52 He hath put down the mighty from [their] seats, and exalted them of low degree.
Er hat Gewaltige vom Thron gestürzt und Niedrige erhoben.
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.
Hungernde hat er mit Gütern erfüllt und Reiche leer abziehen heißen.
54 He hath sustained his servant Israel, in remembrance of [his] mercy;
Er hat sich Israel seines Sohnes angenommen, der Barmherzigkeit zu gedenken,
so wie er geredet hat zu unsern Vätern, zu Abraham und seinem Samen für immer. (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Mariam aber blieb bei ihr gegen drei Monate und kehrte zurück nach Hause.
57 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
Bei Elisabet aber ward die Zeit voll zum Gebären und sie gebar einen Sohn.
58 And her neighbors and her cousins heard that the Lord had shown great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
Und ihre Nachbarn und Verwandten hörten, daß der Herr seine Barmherzigkeit an ihr verherrlicht hatte, und freuten sich mit ihr.
59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
Und es geschah, am achten Tage kamen sie den Knaben zu beschneiden, und nannten ihn nach dem Namen seines Vaters Zacharias.
60 And his mother answered and said, Not [so]; but he shall be called John.
Und seine Mutter antwortete: Nein, sondern Johannes soll er heißen.
61 And they said to her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
Und sie sagten zu ihr: es ist niemand in deiner Verwandtschaft, der diesen Namen führt.
62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
Sie winkten aber dem Vater zu, wie er ihn genannt haben wolle.
63 And he asked for a writing-table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all wondered.
Und er forderte ein Täfelchen und schrieb darauf: Johannes ist sein Name. Und es verwunderten sich Alle.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spoke, and praised God.
Alsbald aber ward ihm der Mund aufgethan und die Zunge, und er sprach und pries Gott,
65 And fear came on all that dwelt around them; and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill-country of Judea.
und es kam Furcht über alle ihre Nachbarn, und im ganzen Gebirge Judäas wurden alle diese Dinge besprochen.
66 And all they that had heard [them], laid [them] up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child will this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
Und alle die es hörten, nahmen es sich zu Herzen und sagten: was wird es mit diesem Knaben sein? war doch die Hand des Herrn mit ihm.
67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Und Zacharias, sein Vater, ward voll heiligen Geistes und weissagte und sprach:
68 Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people.
Gepriesen sei der Herr, der Gott Israels, daß er heimgesucht und Erlösung geschaffen hat seinem Volk
69 And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of his servant David:
und hat uns aufgerichtet ein Horn des Heiles im Hause Davids seines Knechtes,
so wie er geredet hat durch den Mund seiner heiligen Propheten von alter Zeit her: (aiōn g165)
71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
Erlösung von unseren Feinden und von der Hand aller, die uns hassen,
72 To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant:
Erbarmen zu üben an unseren Vätern und zu gedenken seines heiligen Bundes,
73 The oath which he swore to our father Abraham,
nach dem er zugeschworen hat Abraham unserem Vater,
74 That he would grant to us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear,
uns zu verleihen, daß wir furchtlos aus Feindeshand befreit
75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
ihm dienen in Heiligkeit und Gerechtigkeit vor ihm all' unsere Tage.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
Und du aber, Kindlein, sollst Prophet des Höchsten heißen. Denn du sollst vor dem Herrn her wandeln, seine Wege zu bereiten,
77 To give knowledge of salvation to his people, by the remission of their sins,
zu geben Erkenntnis des Heils seinem Volke durch Vergebung ihrer Sünden.
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; by which the day-spring from on high hath visited us,
Um herzlicher Barmherzigkeit willen unseres Gottes, in welcher uns heimsuchen wird der Aufgang aus der Höhe,
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and [in] the shades of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
zu scheinen denen, die da sitzen in Finsternis und Todesschatten, zu richten unsere Füße auf den Weg des Friedens.
80 And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing to Israel.
Der Knabe aber wuchs und ward stark am Geist, und war in der Wüste bis auf den Tag seiner Darstellung vor Israel.
