< Jeremiah 7 >

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
Ko e folofola naʻe haʻu meia Sihova, kia Selemaia, ʻo pehē,
2 “Stand in the gate of Yahweh’s house, and proclaim this word there, and say, ‘Hear Yahweh’s word, all you of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship Yahweh.’”
“Tuʻu ʻi he matapā ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova, pea fakahā ʻi ai ʻae lea ni, ʻo pehē, ‘Fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova ʻakimoutolu kotoa pē ʻo Siuta ʻoku hū ki he ngaahi matapā ni ke lotu kia Sihova.’”
3 Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says, “Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
‌ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, “Fakatonutonu hoʻomou ʻulungāanga pea mo hoʻomou ngaahi faianga, pea te u pule ke mou nofo ʻi he potu ni.
4 Don’t trust in lying words, saying, ‘Yahweh’s temple, Yahweh’s temple, Yahweh’s temple, are these.’
‌ʻOua naʻa mou falala ki he ngaahi lea loi, ʻo pehē, ‘Ko e fale ʻo Sihova, Ko e fale ʻo Sihova, Ko e fale ʻo Sihova, ʻakinautolu ni.’
5 For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;
He kapau te mou fai ke lelei moʻoni hoʻomou ʻulungāanga, pea mo hoʻomou ngaahi faianga: kapau te mou fakamaau totonu ki ha tangata mo hono kaungāʻapi;
6 if you don’t oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don’t shed innocent blood in this place, and don’t walk after other gods to your own hurt,
Kapau ʻe ʻikai te mou fakamamahi ki he muli, mo e tamai mate, pea mo e fefine kuo mate hono husepāniti, pea ʻikai lilingi ʻae toto ʻoe taʻehalaia ʻi he potu ni, pea ʻikai muimui ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe ke mou kovi ai:
7 then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forever more.
Pea te u toki pule ke mou nofo ʻi he potu ni, ko e fonua naʻaku foaki ki hoʻomou ngaahi tamai, ʻo taʻengata pea taʻengata.
8 Behold, you trust in lying words that can’t profit.
“Vakai, ʻoku mou falala ki he ngaahi lea loi, ʻaia ʻoku taʻeʻaonga.
9 Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,
Te mou kaihaʻa, mo fakapō, mo feʻauaki, mo fuakava loi, mo tutu meʻa namu kakala kia Peali, pea muimui ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai te mou ʻiloʻi;
10 then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered,’ that you may do all these abominations?
Pea toki haʻu ʻo tuʻu ʻi hoku ʻao ʻi he fale ni, ʻaia ʻoku ui ʻi hoku huafa, pea lea pehē, ‘Kuo tukuange ʻakimautolu ke mau fai ki he ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ni?’
11 Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it,” says Yahweh.
Kuo hoko ʻae fale ni, ʻaia ʻoku ui ʻi hoku huafa, ko e ʻananga ʻoe kau kaihaʻa ʻi homou ʻao?” ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Vakai kuo u mamata ʻeau ki ai.”
12 “But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
“Kā mou ʻalu eni ki hoku potu naʻe ʻi Sailo, ʻaia naʻe tomuʻa tuku ki ai hoku huafa, pea mamata ki he meʻa naʻaku fai ki ai koeʻuhi ko e angahala ʻa hoku kakai ko ʻIsileli.
13 Now, because you have done all these works,” says Yahweh, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you didn’t hear; and I called you, but you didn’t answer;
Pea ko eni, koeʻuhi kuo mou fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, Naʻaku lea kiate kimoutolu, ʻo tuʻu hengihengi hake ʻo lea, ka naʻe ʻikai te mou fanongo; pea naʻaku ui ʻakimoutolu, ka naʻe ʻikai te mou tali;
14 therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.
15 I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brothers, even the whole offspring of Ephraim.
Pea te u kapusi ʻakimoutolu mei hoku ʻao, ʻo hangē ko ʻeku kapusi homou kāinga kotoa pē, ko e hako kotoa pē ʻo ʻIfalemi.
16 “Therefore don’t pray for this people. Don’t lift up a cry or prayer for them or make intercession to me; for I will not hear you.
Ko ia ʻoua naʻa ke lotua ʻae kakai ni, pea ʻoua naʻa ʻohake ha tangi, pe hūfia ʻakinautolu, pea ʻoua naʻa fai ha kole kiate au; koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai te u ongoʻi koe.
17 Don’t you see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
“ʻIkai kuo ke mamata ki he meʻa ʻoku nau fai ʻi he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, pea ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema?
18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
‌ʻOku okooko ʻae fānau, pea ʻoku tutu ʻae afi ʻe he ngaahi tamai, pea ʻoku natu mā ʻe he kau fefine, koeʻuhi ke ngaohi ʻaki ʻae mā ki he ʻeiki fefine ʻoe langi, pea lilingi ʻae feilaulau ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, koeʻuhi ke fakatupu hoku houhau.”
19 Do they provoke me to anger?” says Yahweh. “Don’t they provoke themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?”
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻIkai kuo nau fakatupu hoku houhau? ʻIkai kuo nau fakatupu ʻae mā ki honau mata ʻonautolu pe?”
20 Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, on man, on animal, on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it will burn and will not be quenched.”
Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe he ʻOtua ko Sihova, “Vakai, te u lilingi hoku houhau mo hoku houhau kakaha ki he potu ni, ki he tangata, pea ki he manu, pea ki he ngaahi ʻakau ʻoe ngoue, pea ki he ngaahi fua ʻoe fonua; pea ʻe vela ia, pea ʻe ʻikai ʻaupito tāmateʻi.”
21 Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat.
ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, “Ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; fakahoko hoʻomou ngaahi feilaulau tutu ki hoʻomou ngaahi feilaulau, pea kai ʻae kakano.
22 For I didn’t speak to your fathers or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices;
He naʻe ʻikai te u lea ki hoʻomou ngaahi tamai, pe fekau kiate kinautolu ʻi he ʻaho naʻaku ʻomi ai ʻakinautolu mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ke fai ʻae ngaahi feilaulau tutu, pe ha ngaahi feilaulau.
23 but this thing I commanded them, saying, ‘Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. Walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’
Ka ko e meʻa ni naʻaku fekau kiate kinautolu, ʻo pehē, ‘Mou talangofua ki hoku leʻo, pea teu hoko ko homou ʻOtua, pea te mou hoko ko hoku kakai: pea mou ʻaʻeva ʻi he hala kotoa pē ʻaia kuo u fekau kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ke mou lelei ai.’
24 But they didn’t listen or turn their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
Ka naʻe ʻikai te nau fanongo, pe fakatokangaʻi honau telinga, ka naʻa nau ʻaʻeva ʻi he fakakaukau pea mo e mahalo ʻa honau loto kovi, pea naʻe ʻikai te nau fakaʻaʻau ki muʻa kae fakaholomui.
25 Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.
Talu ʻae ʻaho ko ia naʻe haʻu ai hoʻomou ngaahi tamai mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻio ʻo aʻu ki he ʻaho ni, kuo u fekau kiate kimoutolu ʻeku kau tamaioʻeiki kotoa pē ko e kau palōfita, ʻo tuʻu hengihengi hake ʻo fekau ʻakinautolu ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē.
26 Yet they didn’t listen to me or incline their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.
Ka naʻe ʻikai te nau fanongo kiate au, pe fakatokangaʻi honau telinga, ka naʻe fakakekeva honau kia: naʻa nau fai kovi lahi ʻi heʻenau ngaahi tamai.
27 “You shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you.
“Ko ia te ke lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi lea ni kotoa pē kiate kinautolu; ka ʻe ʻikai te nau tokanga kiate koe: te ke ui foki kiate kinautolu; ka ʻe ʻikai te nau talia koe.
28 You shall tell them, ‘This is the nation that has not listened to Yahweh their God’s voice, nor received instruction. Truth has perished, and is cut off from their mouth.’
Ko ia ke ke lea pehē kiate kinautolu, ‘Ko e kakai ni ʻoku ʻikai talangofua ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko honau ʻOtua, pe maʻu ʻae akonaki; kuo mole ʻae moʻoni kuo tuʻusi ia mei honau ngutu.’
29 Cut off your hair, and throw it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Yahweh has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
“Kosi ho louʻulu, pea liʻaki ia, pea fai ʻae tangilāulau ʻi he ngaahi potu māʻolunga; he kuo liʻaki mo kapusi atu ʻe Sihova ʻae toʻutangata ʻo hono houhau.”
30 “For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight,” says Yahweh. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Kuo fai kovi ʻi hoku ʻao ʻae fānau ʻa Siuta: kuo nau fokotuʻu ʻenau ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ʻi hoku fale ʻaia ʻoku ui ʻi hoku hingoa, ke fakaʻuli ia.
31 They have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I didn’t command, nor did it come into my mind.
Pea kuo nau langa ʻae ngaahi potu māʻolunga ʻo Tofeti, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he teleʻa ʻoe foha ʻo Henomi, ke tutu honau ngaahi foha mo e ngaahi ʻofefine ʻi he afi; ʻaia naʻe ʻikai ʻaupito te u fekau pe loto ki ai.”
32 Therefore behold, the days come”, says Yahweh, “that it will no more be called ‘Topheth’ or ‘The valley of the son of Hinnom’, but ‘The valley of Slaughter’; for they will bury in Topheth until there is no place to bury.
Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Vakai, ʻe haʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaho, ʻaia ʻe ʻikai toe ui ai ia ko Tofeti, pe ko e teleʻa ʻoe foha ʻo Henomi, ka ko e teleʻa ʻoe tāmateʻi. Pea te nau tanu ʻi Tofeti, ke ʻoua ke pito,
33 The dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth. No one will frighten them away.
34 Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a waste.”
Pea te u toki fakangatangata mei he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, pea mo e ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema, ʻae leʻo ʻoe fiefia, mo e leʻo ʻoe nekeneka, ko e leʻo ʻoe tangata taʻane, pea mo e leʻo ʻoe taʻahine; koeʻuhi ʻe hoko ʻo lala ʻae fonua.”
