1 Timothy 5
1 Don’t rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brothers;
Al anciano no le reprendas con aspereza, sino exhórtale como a padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos;
2 the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.
a las ancianas, como a madres; a las jóvenes, como a hermanas con toda pureza.
3 Honour widows who are widows indeed.
A las viudas hónralas si lo son de verdad.
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
Pero si una viuda tiene hijos o nietos, aprendan estos primero a mostrar la piedad para con su propia casa y a dar en retorno lo que deben a sus mayores, porque esto es grato delante de Dios.
5 Now she who is a widow indeed and desolate, has her hope set on God and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.
La que es verdadera viuda y desamparada tiene puesta la esperanza en Dios y persevera en súplicas y en oraciones noche y día.
6 But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.
Mas la que se entrega a los placeres, viviendo está muerta.
7 Also command these things, that they may be without reproach.
Intima esto para que sean irreprensibles.
8 But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Si alguien no tiene providencia para los suyos, y particularmente para los de su propia casa, ha negado la fe y es peor que un incrédulo.
9 Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,
Como viuda sea inscrita solamente aquella que tenga sesenta años y haya sido mujer de un solo marido,
10 being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the holy ones’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.
que esté acreditada por buenas obras: si educó hijos, si practicó la hospitalidad, si lavó los pies a los santos, si socorrió a los atribulados, si se dedicó a toda buena obra.
11 But refuse younger widows, for when they have grown wanton against Messiah, they desire to marry,
Mas no admitas a las viudas jóvenes; pues cuando se disgustan del primer amor con Cristo, desean casarse,
12 having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
y se hacen culpables porque le quebrantaron la primera fe.
13 Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.
Aprenden, además, a ser ociosas, andando de casa en casa; y no solo ociosas, sino chismosas e indiscretas, hablando de lo que no deben.
14 I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for insulting.
Quiero, pues, que aquellas que son jóvenes se casen, tengan hijos, gobiernen la casa, y no den al adversario ningún pretexto de maledicencia;
15 For already some have turned away after Satan.
porque algunas ya se han apartado yendo en pos de Satanás.
16 If any man or woman who believes has widows, let them relieve them, and don’t let the assembly be burdened, that it might relieve those who are widows indeed.
Si alguna cristiana tiene viudas, déles lo necesario, y no sea gravada la Iglesia, para que pueda socorrer a las que son viudas de verdad.
17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and in teaching.
Los presbíteros que dirigen bien sean considerados dignos de doble honor, sobre todo los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar.
18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain.” And, “The labourer is worthy of his wages.”
Pues dice la Escritura: “No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla” y “Digno es el obrero de su jornal”.
19 Don’t receive an accusation against an elder except at the word of two or three witnesses.
Contra un presbítero no admitas acusación si no es por testimonio de dos o tres testigos.
20 Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
A aquellos que pequen repréndelos delante de todos, para que los demás también cobren temor.
21 I command you in the sight of God, and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
Te conjuro en presencia de Dios y de Cristo Jesús y de los ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin prejuicio, no haciendo nada por parcialidad.
22 Lay hands hastily on no one. Don’t be a participant in other people’s sins. Keep yourself pure.
A nadie impongas las manos precipitadamente, y no te hagas cómplice de pecados ajenos. Guárdate puro.
23 Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.
No bebas más agua sola, sino toma un poco de vino a causa del estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades.
24 Some men’s sins are evident, preceding them to judgement, and some also follow later.
Los pecados de ciertos hombres son manifiestos ya antes de ( nuestro ) juicio, aunque en algunos siguen también después.
25 In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise can’t be hidden.
Asimismo, también las obras buenas son manifiestas. Y ( en cuanto a ) las que no lo son, no podrán quedar ocultas.
