Luke 14
1 And as He went into the house of one of the chief of the pharisees to eat on the sabbath-day, and they were watching Him,
Og det skjedde da han kom inn i en av de øverste fariseeres hus på en sabbat for å holde måltid, og de lurte på ham,
2 behold, there was a certain man before Him that had a dropsy.
se, da var der en vattersottig mann like for ham.
3 And Jesus spake to the expounders of the law and to the pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath-day?
Og Jesus tok til orde og talte til de lovkyndige og fariseerne og sa: Er det tillatt å helbrede på sabbaten, eller ikke?
4 but they made no answer. And He took him and healed him, and sent him away:
Men de tidde. Og han tok på ham og helbredet ham, og lot ham gå.
5 and said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out even on the sabbath-day?
Og han tok atter til orde og sa til dem: Hvem av eder har en sønn eller en okse som faller i en brønn, og drar dem ikke straks op igjen på sabbatsdagen?
6 and they were not able to answer Him again to these things.
Men de var ikke i stand til å svare ham på dette.
7 And He spake a parable to those that were invited, observing how they chose the chief seats, saying unto them,
Og han sa en lignelse til gjestene, da han la merke til hvorledes de valgte sig ut de øverste seter:
8 When thou art invited by any one to a wedding, do not sit down in the uppermost place, least one more honorable than thou be invited by him;
Når du blir buden av nogen til bryllups, da sett dig ikke øverst ved bordet, forat ikke en gjævere enn du skal være buden,
9 and he who invited thee and him, should come and say to thee, Give place to this person, and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.
og den som innbød dig og ham, skal komme og si til dig: Gi denne mann rum! og du så med skam skal komme til å sitte nederst.
10 But when thou art invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, that, when he who invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then wilt thou have honor before them that sit at table with thee:
Men når du er buden, da gå og sett dig nederst, forat han som innbød dig, kan si til dig når han kommer: Venn, kom hit, sett dig høiere op! Da får du ære i alle deres øine som sitter til bords med dig;
11 for whosoever exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
for hver den sig selv ophøier, skal fornedres, og den sig selv fornedrer, skal ophøies.
12 He said also to him that had invited Him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, do not invite thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kindred, nor thy rich neighbors; least they invite thee again, and so a return be made thee.
Han sa også til den som hadde innbudt ham: Når du gjør gjestebud middag eller aften, da innbyd ikke dine venner eller dine brødre eller dine frender eller rike granner, forat ikke de skal be dig igjen, så du får gjengjeld!
13 But when thou makest a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind; and thou shalt be happy;
Men når du gjør gjestebud, da be fattige, vanføre, halte, blinde!
14 because they have not wherewith to requite thee: for a recompense shall be given thee at the resurrection of the just.
så er du salig; for de har ikke noget å gi dig igjen, men du skal få det igjen i de rettferdiges opstandelse.
15 And one of those; who sat at table with Him, hearing these things, said unto Him, Happy is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
Da en av dem som satt med til bords, hørte dette, sa han til ham: Salig er den som får sitte til bords i Guds rike.
16 Upon which He said, A certain man made a great supper and invited many;
Da sa han til ham: Det var en mann som gjorde en stor nattverd og innbød mange;
17 and sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready.
og han sendte sin tjener ut ved den tid nattverden skulde holdes, for å si til de innbudne: Kom! for nu er det ferdig.
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuses; the first said, I have bought a field, and I must go and see it, pray have me excused.
Men de begynte alle som én å undskylde sig. Den første sa til ham: Jeg har kjøpt en aker og må nødvendig gå ut og se på den; jeg ber dig, ha mig undskyldt!
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and am going to try them, pray have me excused.
Og en annen sa: Jeg har kjøpt fem par okser og går ut for å prøve dem; jeg ber dig, ha mig undskyldt!
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
Og atter en annen sa: Jeg har tatt mig en hustru, og derfor kan jeg ikke komme.
21 So the servant came and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go directly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the lame, and the blind.
Og tjeneren kom og fortalte sin herre dette. Da blev husbonden harm og sa til tjeneren: Gå i hast ut på byens gater og streder, og før herinn de fattige og vanføre og blinde og halte!
22 And the servant said, Sir, it is done according to thine order, and still there is room.
Og tjeneren sa: Herre! det er gjort som du bød, og der er ennu rum.
23 And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the high-ways and hedges, and press them to come in, that my house may be filled:
Da sa herren til tjeneren: Gå ut på veiene og ved gjerdene og nød dem til å komme inn, forat mitt hus kan bli fullt!
24 for I tell you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste of my supper.
For jeg sier eder at ingen av de menn som var innbudt, skal smake min nattverd.
25 Now there were great multitudes going along with Him:
Og meget folk vandret sammen med ham. Og han vendte sig og sa til dem:
26 so he turned and said to them, If any man come to me, and does not comparatively hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple.
Om nogen kommer til mig og ikke hater sin far og mor og hustru og barn og brødre og søstre, ja endog sitt eget liv, han kan ikke være min disippel.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and follow me, cannot be my disciple.
Og den som ikke bærer sitt kors og følger efter mig, han kan ikke være min disippel.
28 For who of you that hath a mind to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the expence, whether he hath wherewithal to perfect it?
For hvem av eder som vil bygge et tårn, setter sig ikke først ned og regner efter hvad det vil koste, om han har nok til å fullføre det med,
29 least having laid a foundation and not being able to finish,
forat ikke, når han har lagt grunnen og ikke er i stand til å fullføre det, alle de som ser det, skal begynne å spotte ham og si:
30 all that see it, should deride him, saying, this man began to build and was not able to finish.
Denne mann begynte å bygge, og var ikke i stand til å fullføre det?
31 Or what king, going to engage with another king in battle, doth not sit down first and consult, whether he be able with ten thousand men to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
Eller hvilken konge som drar ut for å møte en annen konge i strid, setter sig ikke først ned og rådslår om han med ti tusen er i stand til å møte den som kommer imot ham med tyve tusen?
32 and if not, while he is yet far off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace.
Men kan han ikke det, da skikker han sendemenn til ham, mens han ennu er langt borte, og tinger om fred.
33 So, every one of you, that doth not give up all that he hath, cannot be my disciple.
Således kan da ingen av eder være min disippel uten at han opgir alt det han eier.
34 Salt is good; but if the salt have lost it's savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
Salt er en god ting, men når også saltet mister sin kraft, hvad skal det da saltes med?
35 it is neither fit for the land, nor for the dunghil; but they throw it away. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Det duer hverken i jord eller i gjødsel; det blir kastet ut. Den som har ører å høre med, han høre!
