James 3
1 Mi britheren, nyle ye be maad many maistris, witynge that ye taken the more doom.
μη πολλοι διδασκαλοι γινεσθε αδελφοι μου ειδοτεσ οτι μειζον κριμα ληψομεθα
2 For alle we offenden in many thingis. If ony man offendith not in word, this is a perfit man; for also he may lede aboute al the bodi with a bridil.
πολλα γαρ πταιομεν απαντεσ ει τισ εν λογω ου πταιει ουτοσ τελειοσ ανηρ δυνατοσ χαλιναγωγησαι και ολον το σωμα
3 For if we putten bridlis `in to horsis mouthis, for to consente to vs, and we leden aboute al the bodi of hem.
ιδε των ιππων τουσ χαλινουσ εισ τα στοματα βαλλομεν προσ το πειθεσθαι αυτουσ ημιν και ολον το σωμα αυτων μεταγομεν
4 And lo! schippis, whanne thei ben grete, and ben dryuun of stronge wyndis, yit thei ben borun about of a litil gouernaile, where the meuyng of the gouernour wole.
ιδου και τα πλοια τηλικαυτα οντα και υπο σκληρων ανεμων ελαυνομενα μεταγεται υπο ελαχιστου πηδαλιου οπου αν η ορμη του ευθυνοντοσ βουληται
5 So also the tunge is but a litil membre, and reisith grete thingis. Lo! hou litil fier brenneth a ful greet wode.
ουτωσ και η γλωσσα μικρον μελοσ εστιν και μεγαλαυχει ιδου ολιγον πυρ ηλικην υλην αναπτει
6 And oure tunge is fier, the vniuersite of wickidnesse. The tunge is ordeyned in oure membris, which defoulith al the bodi; and it is enflawmed of helle, and enflawmeth the wheel of oure birthe. (Geenna g1067)
και η γλωσσα πυρ ο κοσμοσ τησ αδικιασ ουτωσ η γλωσσα καθισταται εν τοισ μελεσιν ημων η σπιλουσα ολον το σωμα και φλογιζουσα τον τροχον τησ γενεσεωσ και φλογιζομενη υπο τησ γεεννησ (Geenna g1067)
7 And al the kynde of beestis, and of foulis, and of serpentis, and of othere is chastisid, and tho ben maad tame of mannus kinde; but no man mai chastise the tunge,
πασα γαρ φυσισ θηριων τε και πετεινων ερπετων τε και εναλιων δαμαζεται και δεδαμασται τη φυσει τη ανθρωπινη
8 for it is an vnpesible yuel, and ful of deedli venym.
την δε γλωσσαν ουδεισ δυναται ανθρωπων δαμασαι ακατασχετον κακον μεστη ιου θανατηφορου
9 In it we blessen God, the fadir, and in it we cursen men, that ben maad to the licnesse of God.
εν αυτη ευλογουμεν τον θεον και πατερα και εν αυτη καταρωμεθα τουσ ανθρωπουσ τουσ καθ ομοιωσιν θεου γεγονοτασ
10 Of the same mouth passith forth blessing and cursing. My britheren, it bihoueth not that these thingis be don so.
εκ του αυτου στοματοσ εξερχεται ευλογια και καταρα ου χρη αδελφοι μου ταυτα ουτωσ γινεσθαι
11 Whether a welle of the same hoole bringith forth swete and salt watir?
μητι η πηγη εκ τησ αυτησ οπησ βρυει το γλυκυ και το πικρον
12 My britheren, whether a fige tre may make grapis, ethir a vyne figus? So nethir salt watir mai make swete watir.
μη δυναται αδελφοι μου συκη ελαιασ ποιησαι η αμπελοσ συκα ουτωσ ουδεμια πηγη αλυκον και γλυκυ ποιησαι υδωρ
13 Who is wijs, and tauyt among you? schewe he of good lyuyng his worching, in myldenesse of his wisdom.
τισ σοφοσ και επιστημων εν υμιν δειξατω εκ τησ καλησ αναστροφησ τα εργα αυτου εν πραυτητι σοφιασ
14 That if ye han bitter enuye, and stryuyngis ben in youre hertis, nyle ye haue glorye, and be lyeris ayens the treuthe.
ει δε ζηλον πικρον εχετε και εριθειαν εν τη καρδια υμων μη κατακαυχασθε και ψευδεσθε κατα τησ αληθειασ
15 For this wisdom is not fro aboue comynge doun, but ertheli, and beestli, and feendli.
ουκ εστιν αυτη η σοφια ανωθεν κατερχομενη αλλ επιγειοσ ψυχικη δαιμονιωδησ
16 For where is enuye and strijf, there is vnstidfastnesse and al schrewid werk.
οπου γαρ ζηλοσ και εριθεια εκει ακαταστασια και παν φαυλον πραγμα
17 But wisdom that is from aboue, first it is chast, aftirward pesible, mylde, able to be counseilid, consentinge to goode thingis, ful of merci and of goode fruytis, demynge with out feynyng.
η δε ανωθεν σοφια πρωτον μεν αγνη εστιν επειτα ειρηνικη επιεικησ ευπειθησ μεστη ελεουσ και καρπων αγαθων αδιακριτοσ και ανυποκριτοσ
18 And the fruyt of riytwisnesse is sowun in pees, to men that maken pees.
καρποσ δε τησ δικαιοσυνησ εν ειρηνη σπειρεται τοισ ποιουσιν ειρηνην
