Jeremiah 50
1 The word which the Lord spak of Babiloyne, and of the lond of Caldeis, in the hond of Jeremye, the profete.
La parole que l’Éternel dit sur Babylone, sur le pays des Chaldéens, par Jérémie le prophète:
2 Telle ye among hethene men, and make ye herd; reise ye a signe; preche ye, and nyle ye holde stille; seie ye, Babiloyne is takun, Bel is schent, Maradach is ouer comun; the grauun ymagis therof ben schent, the idols of hem ben ouer comun.
Annoncez parmi les nations, et faites-le entendre, et élevez l’étendard; faites-le entendre, ne le cachez pas; dites: Babylone est prise, Bel est honteux; Merodac est brisé; ses idoles sont honteuses, ses images sont brisées.
3 For a folk schal stie fro the north ayenus it, which folk schal sette the lond therof in to wildirnesse; and noon schal be that schal dwelle therynne, fro man `til to beeste; and thei ben moued, and yeden a wei.
Car une nation est montée du nord contre elle; elle a mis en désolation son pays, et il n’y aura plus là d’habitant: tant les hommes que les bêtes se sont enfuis, ils s’en sont allés.
4 In tho daies, and in that tyme, seith the Lord, the sones of Israel schulen come, thei and the sones of Juda togidere, goynge and wepynge; thei schulen haaste, and seke her Lord God in Sion,
En ces jours-là et en ce temps-là, dit l’Éternel, les fils d’Israël viendront, eux et les fils de Juda ensemble; ils iront, marchant et pleurant, et ils chercheront l’Éternel leur Dieu.
5 and thei schulen axe the weie. Hidur the faces of hem schulen come, and thei schulen be set to the Lord with boond of pees euerlastynge, which schal not be don awei by ony foryetyng.
Ils s’enquerront de Sion; vers elle leur face [sera tournée]: Venez, attachons-nous à l’Éternel par une alliance éternelle qui ne sera pas oubliée.
6 My puple is maad a lost floc, the scheepherdis of hem disseyueden hem, and maden to go vnstabli in hillis; thei passiden fro mounteyn in to a litil hil, thei foryaten her bed.
Mon peuple est un troupeau perdu; leurs pasteurs les ont fait errer, les égarant sur les montagnes; ils sont allés de montagne en colline, ils ont oublié leur gîte.
7 Alle men that founden, eeten hem, and the enemyes of hem seiden, We synneden not, for that thei synneden to the Lord, the fairnesse of riytfulnesse, and to the Lord, the abidyng of her fadris.
Tous ceux qui les ont trouvés les ont dévorés; et leurs ennemis disent: Nous ne sommes pas coupables, parce qu’ils ont péché contre l’Éternel, contre la demeure de la justice, contre l’Éternel, l’attente de leurs pères.
8 Go ye awei fro the myddis of Babiloyne, and go ye out of the lond of Caldeis, and be ye as kydis bifore the floc.
Fuyez du milieu de Babylone, et sortez du pays des Chaldéens, et soyez comme les boucs [qui vont] devant le troupeau.
9 For lo! Y schal reise, and brynge in to Babiloyne the gaderyng togidere of grete folkis, fro the lond of the north; and thei schulen be maad redi ayens it, and it schal be takun in the dai; the arowe therof as of a strong man a sleere, schal not turne ayen voide.
Car voici, du pays du nord je réveillerai et je ferai monter contre Babylone un rassemblement de grandes nations qui se rangeront contre elle: de là elle sera prise. Leurs flèches sont comme celles d’un habile homme fort; pas une ne reviendra à vide.
10 And Caldee schal be in to prey, alle that distrien it, schulen be fillid, seith the Lord.
Et la Chaldée sera un butin; tous ceux qui la pilleront seront rassasiés, dit l’Éternel;
11 For ye maken ful out ioye, and speken grete thingis, and rauyschen myn eritage; for ye ben sched out as caluys on erbe, and lowiden as bolis.
parce que vous vous êtes réjouis, parce que vous vous êtes égayés, vous qui avez pillé mon héritage, parce que vous avez bondi comme une génisse qui foule le blé, et que vous avez henni comme de puissants chevaux.
12 Youre modir is schent greetli, and sche that gendride you, is maad euene to dust; lo! sche schal be the last among folkis, and forsakun, with out weie, and drie.
Votre mère est fort honteuse, celle qui vous enfanta est couverte d’opprobre: voici, [elle est] la dernière des nations, un désert, un pays stérile et une solitude!
13 For the wraththe of the Lord it schal not be enhabitid, but it schal be dryuun al in to wildirnesse; ech that schal passe bi Babiloyne, schal wondre, and schal hisse on alle the woundis therof.
À cause du courroux de l’Éternel elle ne sera pas habitée, elle sera tout entière une désolation; quiconque passera près de Babylone sera étonné et sifflera à cause de toutes ses plaies.
14 Alle ye that beenden bowe, be maad redi ayens Babiloyne bi cumpas; ouercome ye it, spare ye not arowis, for it synnede to the Lord.
Rangez-vous en bataille contre Babylone, tout alentour, vous tous qui bandez l’arc; tirez contre elle, n’épargnez pas les flèches, car elle a péché contre l’Éternel.
15 Crye ye ayens it, euery where it yaf hond; the foundementis therof fellen doun, and the wallis therof ben distried; for it is the veniaunce of the Lord. Take ye veniaunce of it; as it dide, do ye to it.
Poussez des cris contre elle tout alentour! Elle s’est rendue, ses remparts sont tombés, ses murailles sont renversées, car c’est ici la vengeance de l’Éternel. Vengez-vous sur elle, faites-lui comme elle a fait!
16 Leese ye a sowere of Babiloyne, and hym that holdith a sikil in the tyme of heruest, fro the face of swerd of the culuer; ech man schal be turned to his puple, and ech man schal flee to his lond.
Retranchez de Babylone celui qui sème, et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson. À cause de l’épée qui ravage, qu’ils s’en retournent chacun vers son peuple, et qu’ils fuient chacun vers son pays.
17 Israel is a scaterid flok, liouns castiden out it; first kyng Assur eete it, this laste Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, dide awei the bonys therof.
Israël est une brebis chassée çà et là; les lions l’ont pourchassée. Le roi d’Assyrie, le premier, l’a dévorée; et celui-ci, le dernier, Nebucadretsar, roi de Babylone, lui a brisé les os.
18 Therfor the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal visite the kyng of Babiloyne, and his lond, as Y visitide the kyng of Assur;
C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Voici, je visite le roi de Babylone et son pays, comme j’ai visité le roi d’Assyrie;
19 and Y schal brynge ayen Israel to his dwellyng place. Carmele and Baasan schal be fed, and his soule schal be fillid in the hil of Effraym, and of Galaad.
et je ferai revenir Israël à ses pâturages; et il paîtra sur le Carmel et en Basan, et son âme sera rassasiée dans la montagne d’Éphraïm et en Galaad.
20 In tho daies, and in that tyme, seith the Lord, the wickidnesse of Israel schal be souyt, and it schal not be; and the synne of Juda schal be souyt, and it schal not be foundun; for Y schal be merciful to hem, whiche Y schal forsake.
En ces jours-là et en ce temps-là, dit l’Éternel, on cherchera l’iniquité d’Israël, et il n’y en aura point, et les péchés de Juda, et ils ne seront pas trouvés; car je pardonnerai à ceux que j’aurai fait demeurer de reste.
21 Stie thou on the lond of lordis, and visite thou on the dwelleris therof; scatere thou, and sle tho thingis, that ben aftir hem, seith the Lord; and do thou bi alle thingis which Y comaundide to thee.
Monte contre le pays doublement rebelle, contre lui et contre les habitants destinés à la visitation; dévaste et détruis entièrement derrière eux, dit l’Éternel, et fais selon tout ce que je t’ai commandé.
22 The vois of batel and greet sorewe in the lond.
Le cri de guerre est dans le pays, et une grande ruine.
23 Hou is the hamer of al erthe brokun and al defoulid? hou is Babiloyne turned in to desert, among hethene men?
Comment est mis en pièces et brisé le marteau de toute la terre! Comment Babylone est-elle réduite en désolation parmi les nations!
24 Babiloyne, Y haue snarid thee, and thou art takun, and thou wistist not; thou art foundun, and takun, for thou terridist the Lord to wraththe.
Je t’ai tendu un piège, et aussi tu es prise, Babylone! et tu ne le savais pas; tu as été trouvée, et tu as aussi été saisie, parce que tu as combattu contre l’Éternel.
25 The Lord openide his tresour, and brouyte forth the vessels of his wraththe; for whi a werk is to the Lord God of oostis in the lond of Caldeis.
L’Éternel a ouvert son trésor, et il en a fait sortir les armes de son indignation; car c’est ici l’œuvre du Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées, dans le pays des Chaldéens.
26 Come ye to it fro the fertheste endis, opene ye, that thei go out, that schulen defoule it; take ye awei stoonys fro the weie, and dryue ye in to heepis, and sle ye it, and nothing be residue.
Venez contre elle de toute part; ouvrez ses granges, entassez-la comme des gerbes et détruisez-la entièrement; qu’elle n’ait rien de reste!
27 Distrie ye alle the stronge men therof, go thei doun in to sleynge; wo to hem, for the dai of hem cometh, the tyme of visityng of hem.
Tuez tous ses taureaux; qu’ils descendent à la tuerie. Malheur à eux! car leur jour est venu, le temps de leur visitation.
28 The vois of fleeris, and of hem that ascapiden fro the lond of Babiloyne, that thei telle in Sion the veniaunce of oure Lord God, the veniaunce of his temple.
La voix de ceux qui fuient, qui sont réchappés du pays de Babylone, pour annoncer dans Sion la vengeance de l’Éternel, notre Dieu, la vengeance de son temple!
29 Telle ye ayens Babiloyne to ful many men, to alle that beenden bowe. Stonde ye togidere ayens it bi cumpas, and noon ascape; yelde ye to it aftir his werk, aftir alle thingis whiche it dide, do ye to it; for it was reisid ayens the Lord, ayens the hooli of Israel.
Convoquez des archers contre Babylone, tous ceux qui bandent l’arc! Campez contre elle tout alentour, qu’elle n’ait pas de réchappés; rendez-lui selon son œuvre, faites-lui selon tout ce qu’elle a fait; car elle a été fière contre l’Éternel, contre le Saint d’Israël.
30 Therfor yonge men therof schulen falle doun in the stretis therof, and alle men werriours therof schulen be stille in that dai, seith the Lord.
C’est pourquoi ses jeunes gens tomberont dans ses places et tous ses hommes de guerre seront détruits en ce jour-là, dit l’Éternel.
31 Lo! thou proude, Y to thee, seith the Lord God of oostis, for thi dai is comun, the tyme of thi visitacioun.
Voici, [j’en veux] à toi, orgueilleuse, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées; car ton jour est venu, le temps où je te visite.
32 And the proude schal falle, and schal falle doun togidere, and noon schal be, that schal reise hym; and Y schal kyndle fier in the citees of hym, and it schal deuoure alle thingis in cumpas of it.
Et l’orgueilleuse a bronché et est tombée, et il n’y a personne qui la relève; et j’allumerai dans ses villes un feu qui dévorera tous ses alentours.
33 The Lord of oostis seith these thingis, The sones of Israel and the sones of Juda togidere suffren fals caleng; alle that token hem, holden, thei nylen delyuere hem.
Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Les fils d’Israël et les fils de Juda ont été ensemble opprimés; et tous ceux qui les emmenèrent captifs les ont retenus, ils ont refusé de les laisser aller.
34 The ayenbyere of hem is strong, the Lord of oostis is his name; bi dom he schal defende the cause of hem, that he make the lond aferd, and stire togidere the dwelleris of Babiloyne.
Leur rédempteur est fort. Son nom est l’Éternel des armées; il prendra certainement en main leur cause, afin de donner du repos au pays et de troubler les habitants de Babylone.
35 A swerd to Caldeis, seith the Lord, and to the dwelleris of Babiloyne, and to the princes, and to the wise men therof.
L’épée est sur les Chaldéens, dit l’Éternel, et sur les habitants de Babylone, et sur ses princes, et sur ses sages;
36 A swerd to the false dyuynours therof, that schulen be foolis; a swerd to the stronge men therof, that schulen drede.
l’épée est sur les menteurs, et ils deviendront insensés; l’épée est sur ses hommes forts, et ils seront terrifiés;
37 Swerd to the horsis therof, and to the charis therof, and to al the comyn puple whiche is in the myddis therof, and thei schulen be as wymmen; a swerd to the tresours therof, that schulen be rauyschid.
l’épée est sur ses chevaux, et sur ses chars, et sur tout le peuple mélangé qui est au milieu d’elle, et ils seront comme des femmes; l’épée est sur ses trésors, et ils seront pillés;
38 Drynesse schal be on the watris therof, and tho schulen be drye; for it is the lond of grauun ymagis, and hath glorie in false feynyngis.
la sécheresse est sur ses eaux, et elles tarissent; car c’est un pays d’images taillées, et ils sont fous de leurs affreuses idoles.
39 Therfor dragouns schulen dwelle with fonned wielde men, and ostrigis schulen dwelle therynne; and it schal no more be enhabitid `til in to with outen ende, and it schal not be bildid `til to generacioun and generacioun;
C’est pourquoi les bêtes du désert, avec des chacals, y habiteront, et il y habitera des autruches; et elle ne sera plus jamais habitée, et on n’y demeurera plus, de génération en génération.
40 as the Lord distriede Sodom and Gomorre, and the niy citees therof, seith the Lord. A man schal not dwelle there, and the sone of man schal not dwelle in it.
Comme dans la subversion que Dieu a faite de Sodome et de Gomorrhe et des villes voisines, dit l’Éternel, personne n’y habitera et aucun fils d’homme n’y séjournera.
41 Lo! a puple cometh fro the north, and a greet folc, and many kyngis schulen rise togidere fro the endis of erthe.
Voici, un peuple vient du nord, et une grande nation et beaucoup de rois se réveillent des extrémités de la terre.
42 Thei schulen take bowe and swerd, thei ben cruel and vnmerciful; the vois of hem schal sowne as the see, and thei schulen stie on horsis as a man maad redi to batel, ayens thee, thou douyter of Babiloyne.
Ils saisissent l’arc et le javelot; ils sont cruels, et ils n’ont pas de compassion; leur voix bruit comme la mer, et ils sont montés sur des chevaux, préparés comme un homme pour la guerre, contre toi, fille de Babylone.
43 The kyng of Babiloyne herde the fame of hem, and hise hondis ben aclumsid; angwisch took hym, sorewe took hym, as a womman trauelynge of child.
Le roi de Babylone en a entendu la rumeur, et ses mains sont devenues lâches; la détresse l’a saisi, l’angoisse comme celle d’une femme qui enfante.
44 Lo! as a lioun he schal stie fro the pride of Jordan to the stronge fairnesse, for Y schal make hym to renne sudenli to it; and who schal be the chosun man, whom Y schal sette bifore him? For who is lijk me? and who schal suffre me? and who is this scheepherde, that schal ayenstonde my cheer?
Voici, comme un lion il monte de la crue du Jourdain contre la demeure forte; car je les en chasserai précipitamment. Et qui est l’homme choisi, que je préposerai sur elle? Car qui est comme moi, et qui m’assignera le temps, et qui sera le pasteur qui se tiendra devant moi?
45 Therfore here ye the councel of the Lord, which he conseyuede in mynde ayens Babiloyne, and hise thouytis, whiche he thouyte on the lond of Caldeis, no but the litle of the flockis drawen hem doun, no but the dwellyng place of hem be destried with hem, ellis no man yyue credence to me.
C’est pourquoi, écoutez le conseil de l’Éternel, qu’il a formé contre Babylone, et les pensées qu’il a pensées contre le pays des Chaldéens: Si les petits du troupeau ne les entraînent! S’il ne rend désolée pour eux [leur] habitation!…
46 The erthe is mouyd of the vois of caitiftee of Babiloyne, and cry is herd among hethene men.
Au bruit de la prise de Babylone la terre est ébranlée, et il y a un cri, entendu parmi les nations.
