Proverbs 2
1 Mi sone, if thou resseyuest my wordis, `and hidist myn heestis anentis thee;
Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, et si tu caches mes commandements en toi,
2 that thin eere here wisdom, bowe thin herte to knowe prudence.
En sorte que ton oreille écoute la sagesse: incline ton cœur pour connaître la prudence.
3 For if thou inwardli clepist wisdom, and bowist thin herte to prudence;
Car si tu invoques la sagesse, et que tu inclines ton cœur vers la prudence;
4 if thou sekist it as money, and diggist it out as tresours;
Si tu la recherches comme l’argent, et que tu creuses pour la trouver, comme les trésors:
5 thanne thou schalt vndirstonde the drede of the Lord, and schalt fynde the kunnyng of God.
Alors tu comprendras la crainte du Seigneur, et tu trouveras la science de Dieu.
6 For the Lord yyueth wisdom; and prudence and kunnyng is of his mouth.
Parce que c’est le Seigneur qui donne la sagesse, et que de sa bouche sortent la prudence et la science.
7 He schal kepe the heelthe of riytful men, and he schal defende hem that goen sympli.
Il veillera au salut des hommes droits, et protégera ceux qui marchent dans la simplicité,
8 And he schal kepe the pathis of riytfulnesse, and he schal kepe the weies of hooli men.
Conservant les sentiers de la justice, et gardant les voies des saints.
9 Thanne thou schalt vndirstonde riytfulnesse, and dom, and equytee, and ech good path.
C’est alors que tu comprendras la justice et le jugement, et l’équité et tout bon sentier.
10 If wysdom entrith in to thin herte, and kunnyng plesith thi soule,
Si la sagesse entre dans ton cœur, et que la science à ton âme plaise,
11 good councel schal kepe thee, and prudence schal kepe thee; that thou be delyuered fro an yuel weie,
Le conseil te gardera, et la prudence te sauvera,
12 and fro a man that spekith weiward thingis.
Afin que tu sois arraché à une voie mauvaise, et à l’homme qui tient des discours pervers;
13 Whiche forsaken a riytful weie, and goen bi derk weies;
À ceux qui abandonnent le droit chemin, et qui marchent par des voies ténébreuses,
14 whiche ben glad, whanne thei han do yuel, and maken ful out ioye in worste thingis;
Qui se réjouissent lorsqu’ils ont mal fait, qui tressaillent de joie dans les choses les plus mauvaises,
15 whose weies ben weywerd, and her goyingis ben of yuel fame.
Dont les voies son perverses, et dont les démarches sont infâmes.
16 That thou be delyuered fro an alien womman, and fro a straunge womman, that makith soft hir wordis;
Afin que tu sois arraché à la femme d’autrui, et à l’étrangère, qui amollit ses paroles;
17 and forsakith the duyk of hir tyme of mariage,
Qui abandonne le guide de sa jeunesse,
18 and hath foryete the couenaunt of hir God. For the hous of hir is bowid to deeth, and hir pathis to helle.
Et qui a oublié l’alliance de son Dieu: sa maison penche vers la mort, et ses sentiers vers les enfers;
19 Alle that entren to hir, schulen not turne ayen, nether schulen catche the pathis of lijf.
Tous ceux qui entrent chez elle ne reviendront pas, et ne prendront pas les sentiers de la vie.
20 That thou go in a good weie, and kepe the pathis of iust men.
Afin que tu marches dans une voie bonne, et que tu gardes les sentiers des justes.
21 Forsothe thei that ben riytful, schulen dwelle in the lond; and symple men schulen perfitli dwelle ther ynne.
Car les hommes qui sont droits habiteront sur la terre, et les simples y demeureront constamment.
22 But vnfeithful men schulen be lost fro the loond; and thei that doen wickidli, schulen be takun awey fro it.
Mais les impies seront exterminés de la terre; et les méchants en seront enlevés.
