2 Corinthians 5

1 For we have known that if our earthly house of the tabernacle may be thrown down, a building from God we have, an house not made with hands — age-during — in the heavens, (aiōnios g166)

Nous savons, en effet, que, si cette tente où nous logeons sur la terre, est détruite, nous avons dans les cieux un édifice qui vient de Dieu, un domicile éternel, qui n'est pas fait de main d'homme. (aiōnios g166)

2 for also in this we groan, with our dwelling that is from heaven earnestly desiring to clothe ourselves,

Nous soupirons même dans cette tente, désireux que nous sommes d'être revêtus de notre domicile céleste;

3 if so be that, having clothed ourselves, we shall not be found naked,

si toutefois il se trouve que nous soyons effectivement revêtus, non pas nus.

4 for we also who are in the tabernacle do groan, being burdened, seeing we wish not to unclothe ourselves, but to clothe ourselves, that the mortal may be swallowed up of the life.

En effet, nous qui sommes dans cette tente, nous soupirons, l'âme oppressée, parce que nous ne voulons pas être dépouillés; nous désirons, au contraire, d'être revêtus, afin que ce qu'il y a de mortel en nous, soit absorbé par la vie.

5 And He who did work us to this self-same thing [is] God, who also did give to us the earnest of the Spirit;

Et celui qui nous a formés pour cet avenir, c'est Dieu; il nous a donné pour arrhes son Esprit.

6 having courage, then, at all times, and knowing that being at home in the body, we are away from home from the Lord, —

Nous sommes donc toujours plein de courage. Cependant, comme nous savons qu'en habitant dans ce corps, nous habitons loin du Seigneur

7 for through faith we walk, not through sight —

(car c'est par la foi que nous marchons, non par la vue),

8 we have courage, and are well pleased rather to be away from the home of the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

nous préférons, quoique nous soyons pleins de courage, déloger de ce corps et habiter près du Seigneur.

9 Wherefore also we are ambitious, whether at home or away from home, to be well pleasing to him,

C'est pour ce motif que toute notre ambition est de lui être agréables, soit que nous demeurions dans ce corps, soit que nous en délogions;

10 for all of us it behoveth to be manifested before the tribunal of the Christ, that each one may receive the things [done] through the body, in reference to the things that he did, whether good or evil;

car ce que nous sommes tous doit être mis en plein jour devant le tribunal de Christ, afin que chacun reçoive selon le bien ou le mal qu'il aura fait, étant dans son corps.

11 having known, therefore, the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, and to God we are manifested, and I hope also in your consciences to have been manifested;

Etant donc pénétrés de la crainte du Seigneur, nous cherchons à convaincre les hommes que tels sont nos sentiments; quant à Dieu, il connaît le fond de notre coeur, et nous espérons que dans votre conscience, vous le connaissez aussi.

12 for not again ourselves do we recommend to you, but we are giving occasion to you of glorifying in our behalf, that ye may have [something] in reference to those glorifying in face and not in heart;

Nous ne venons point nous recommander encore nous-même auprès de vous, mais vous fournir l'occasion et les moyens de vous glorifier de nous, afin que vous puissiez répondre à ceux qui se glorifient de ce qui n'est que grimace, et non sentiment du coeur.

13 for whether we were beside ourselves, [it was] to God; whether we be of sound mind — [it is] to you,

Car, si nous sommes hors de sens, c'est pour Dieu; si nous sommes dans notre sens, c'est pour vous;

14 for the love of the Christ doth constrain us, having judged thus: that if one for all died, then the whole died,

car l'amour de Christ nous possède, persuadés comme nous le sommes, que si un seul est mort pour tous, tous donc sont morts;

15 and for all he died, that those living, no more to themselves may live, but to him who died for them, and was raised again.

et qu'il est mort pour tous, afin que ceux qui vivent, ne vivent plus pour eux-mêmes, mais pour celui qui est mort et qui est ressuscité pour eux.

16 So that we henceforth have known no one according to the flesh, and even if we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him no more;

Aussi, pour nous, ne connaissons-nous désormais personne selon la chair: quand même nous avons connu Christ selon la chair, maintenant nous ne le connaissons plus de cette manière.

17 so that if any one [is] in Christ — [he is] a new creature; the old things did pass away, lo, become new have the all things.

Si quelqu'un est en Christ, il est une nouvelle créature: les choses anciennes sont passées, toutes choses sont devenues nouvelles.

18 And the all things [are] of God, who reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and did give to us the ministration of the reconciliation,

Et tout cela vient de Dieu, qui nous a réconciliés avec lui par Jésus-Christ, et qui nous a confié le ministère de la réconciliation.

19 how that God was in Christ — a world reconciling to Himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses; and having put in us the word of the reconciliation,

Dieu, en effet, réconciliait le monde avec lui en Christ, en n'imputant point aux hommes leurs péchés, et c'est lui qui a mis en nous la parole de la réconciliation.

20 in behalf of Christ, then, we are ambassadors, as if God were calling through us, we beseech, in behalf of Christ, 'Be ye reconciled to God;'

C'est donc pour Christ que nous remplissons les fonctions d'ambassadeur, comme si Dieu exhortait par nous. Nous vous en prions pour Christ: Réconciliez-vous avec Dieu.

21 for him who did not know sin, in our behalf He did make sin, that we may become the righteousness of God in him.

Celui qui n'a pas connu le péché, il l'a traité pour nous comme pécheur, afin que nous possédions en sa personne, la justice qui vient de Dieu.
