Luke 11
1 And it came to pass, in his being in a certain place praying, as he ceased, a certain one of his disciples said unto him, 'Sir, teach us to pray, as also John taught his disciples.'
Il arriva que, comme il priait en un certain lieu, un de ses disciples lui dit, après qu’il eut fini: Seigneur, enseignez-nous à prier, comme Jean lui-même l’a enseigné à ses disciples.
2 And he said to them, 'When ye may pray, say ye: Our Father who art in the heavens; hallowed be Thy name: Thy reign come; Thy will come to pass, as in heaven also on earth;
Et il leur dit: Quand vous priez, dites: Père, que votre nom soit sanctifié. Que votre règne arrive.
3 our appointed bread be giving us daily;
Donnez-nous aujourd’hui notre pain de chaque jour.
4 and forgive us our sins, for also we ourselves forgive every one indebted to us; and mayest Thou not bring us into temptation; but do Thou deliver us from the evil.'
Et remettez-nous nos péchés, puisque nous remettons nous-mêmes à tous ceux qui nous doivent; et ne nous induisez point en tentation.
5 And he said unto them, 'Who of you shall have a friend, and shall go on unto him at midnight, and may say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves,
Et il leur dit encore: Si quelqu’un de vous a mi ami, et qu’il aille le trouver pendant la nuit, et lui dise: Mon ami, prête-moi trois pains,
6 seeing a friend of mine came out of the way unto me, and I have not what I shall set before him,
Parce qu’un de mes amis est arrivé chez moi de voyage, et que je n’ai rien à lui offrir;
7 and he from within answering may say, Do not give me trouble, already the door hath been shut, and my children with me are in the bed, I am not able, having risen, to give to thee.
Et si celui-là, répondant de dedans sa maison, disait: Ne m’importune point; ma porte est déjà fermée, et mes enfants sont au lit avec moi; je ne puis me lever et t’en donner.
8 'I say to you, even if he will not give to him, having risen, because of his being his friend, yet because of his importunity, having risen, he will give him as many as he doth need;
Si cependant l’autre continue de frapper, je vous le dis, quand celui-ci ne se lèverait point pour lui en donner, parce qu’il est son ami; cependant à cause de son importunité, il se lèvera et lui en donnera autant qu’il en a besoin.
9 and I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;
Et moi je vous dis aussi: Demandez, et il vous sera donné; cherchez, et vous trouverez; frappez, et l’on vous ouvrira.
10 for every one who is asking doth receive; and he who is seeking doth find; and to him who is knocking it shall be opened.
Car quiconque demande, reçoit; et qui cherche, trouve; et l’on ouvrira à celui qui frappe.
11 'And of which of you — the father — if the son shall ask a loaf, a stone will he present to him? and if a fish, will he instead of a fish, a serpent present to him?
Si quelqu’un d’entre vous demande du pain à son père, lui donnera-t-il une pierre? ou si un poisson, lui donnera-t-il au lieu du poisson, un serpent?
12 and if he may ask an egg, will he present to him a scorpion?
Ou s’il lui demande un œuf, lui présentera-t-il un scorpion?
13 If, then, ye, being evil, have known good gifts to be giving to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those asking Him!'
Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, vous savez donner à vos enfants des choses bonnes; combien, à plus forte raison, votre Père céleste donnera-t-il un esprit bon à ceux qui le lui demanderont?
14 And he was casting forth a demon, and it was dumb, and it came to pass, the demon having gone forth, the dumb man spake, and the multitudes wondered,
Or il chassait un démon, et ce démon était muet; et lorsqu’il eut chassé le démon, le muet parla, et le peuple fut dans l’admiration.
15 and certain of them said, 'By Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons, he doth cast forth the demons;'
Mais quelques-uns d’entre eux dirent: C’est par Béelzébub, prince des démons, qu’il chasse les démons.
16 and others, tempting, a sign out of heaven from him were asking.
Et d’autres, pour le tenter, lui demandaient un prodige dans le ciel.
17 And he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, 'Every kingdom having been divided against itself is desolated; and house against house doth fall;
Mais Jésus ayant vu leurs pensées, leur dit: Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même sera désolé, et une maison tombera sur une autre maison.
18 and if also the Adversary against himself was divided, how shall his kingdom be made to stand? for ye say, by Beelzeboul is my casting forth the demons.
Que si Satan est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? car vous dites que c’est par Béelzébub que je chasse les démons.
19 'But if I by Beelzeboul cast forth the demons — your sons, by whom do they cast forth? because of this your judges they shall be;
Et si moi, je chasse les démons par Béelzébub, vos fils, par qui les chassent-ils? C’est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges.
20 but if by the finger of God I cast forth the demons, then come unawares upon you did the reign of God.
Mais si c’est par le doigt de Dieu que je chasse les démons, c’est que le royaume de Dieu est arrivé jusqu’à vous.
21 'When the strong man armed may keep his hall, in peace are his goods;
Lorsque le fort armé garde l’entrée de sa maison, ce qu’il possède est en sûreté.
22 but when the stronger than he, having come upon [him], may overcome him, his whole-armour he doth take away in which he had trusted, and his spoils he distributeth;
Mais si un plus fort que lui survenant, en triomphe, il emportera toutes ses armes dans lesquelles il se confiait, et il distribuera ses dépouilles.
23 he who is not with me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me doth scatter.
Qui n’est pas pour moi est contre moi; et qui n’amasse pas avec moi, dissipe.
24 'When the unclean spirit may go forth from the man it walketh through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding, it saith, I will turn back to my house whence I came forth;
Lorsque l’esprit impur sort de l’homme, il va par des lieux arides, cherchant du repos; et n’en trouvant point, il dit: Je retournerai dans ma maison d’où je suis sorti.
25 and having come, it findeth [it] swept and adorned;
Et revenant il la trouve nettoyée de ses ordures, et ornée.
26 then doth it go, and take to it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and having entered, they dwell there, and the last of that man becometh worst than the first.'
Alors il s’en va, et prend avec lui sept autres esprits pires que lui, et, étant entrés dans cette maison, ils y demeurèrent. Et le dernier état de cet homme devient pire que le premier.
27 And it came to pass, in his saying these things, a certain woman having lifted up the voice out of the multitude, said to him, 'Happy the womb that carried thee, and the paps that thou didst suck!'
Or il arriva que, comme il disait ces choses, une femme, élevant la voix d’au milieu de la foule, lui dit: Heureux le sein qui vous a porté, et les mamelles que vous avez sucées!
28 And he said, 'Yea, rather, happy those hearing the word of God, and keeping [it]!'
Mais Jésus dit: Heureux plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la gardent!
29 And the multitudes crowding together upon him, he began to say, 'This generation is evil, a sign it doth seek after, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet,
Cependant le peuple s’amassant en foule, il commença à dire: Cette génération est une génération mauvaise; elle demande un prodige, et il ne lui sera point donné de prodige, si ce n’est le prodige du prophète Jonas.
30 for as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of Man be to this generation.
Car comme Jonas fut un prodige pour les Ninivites, ainsi sera le Fils de l’homme pour cette génération.
31 'A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and lo, greater than Solomon here!
La reine du midi se lèvera au jugement avec les hommes de cette génération, et les condamnera; parce qu’elle vint des extrémités de la terre entendre la sagesse de Salomon; et il y a ici plus que Salomon.
32 'Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, because they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah; and lo, greater than Jonah here!
Les Ninivites se lèveront au jugement avec cette génération, et la condamneront; parce qu’ils firent pénitence à la prédication de Jonas; et il y a ici plus que Jonas.
33 'And no one having lighted a lamp, doth put [it] in a secret place, nor under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, that those coming in may behold the light.
Personne n’allume une lampe pour la mettre en un lieu caché, ni sous le boisseau; mais on la pose sur le chandelier, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.
34 'The lamp of the body is the eye, when then thine eye may be simple, thy whole body also is lightened; and when it may be evil, thy body also is darkened;
La lampe de votre corps est votre œil. Si votre œil est simple, tout votre corps sera lumineux; mais s’il est mauvais, tout votre corps aussi sera ténébreux.
35 take heed, then, lest the light that [is] in thee be darkness;
Prenez donc garde que la lumière qui est en vous ne soit ténèbres.
36 if then thy whole body is lightened, not having any part darkened, the whole shall be lightened, as when the lamp by the brightness may give thee light.'
Si donc votre corps est tout entier lumineux, n’ayant aucune partie ténébreuse, tout sera lumineux et vous serez éclairés comme par la lampe qui brille.
37 And in [his] speaking, a certain Pharisee was asking him that he might dine with him, and having gone in, he reclined (at meat),
Pendant qu’il parlait, un pharisien le pria de dîner chez lui. Etant donc entré, il se mit à table.
38 and the Pharisee having seen, did wonder that he did not first baptize himself before the dinner.
Or le pharisien, pensant en lui-même, commença à se demander pourquoi il ne s’était point lavé avant le repas.
39 And the Lord said unto him, 'Now do ye, the Pharisees, the outside of the cup and of the plate make clean, but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness;
Et le Seigneur lui dit: Vous autres, pharisiens, vous nettoyez le dehors de la coupe et du plat; mais ce qui est au dedans de vous est plein de rapine et d’iniquité.
40 unthinking! did not He who made the outside also the inside make?
Insensés! celui qui a lait le dehors n’a-t-il pas fait aussi le dedans?
41 But what ye have give ye [as] alms, and, lo, all things are clean to you.
Toutefois, faites l’aumône de votre superflu, et tout sera pur pour vous.
42 'But woe to you, the Pharisees, because ye tithe the mint, and the rue, and every herb, and ye pass by the judgment, and the love of God; these things it behoveth to do, and those not to be neglecting.
Mais malheur à vous, pharisiens, parce que vous payez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue, et de toutes les herbes, et que vous négligez la justice et l’amour de Dieu! il fallait faire ces choses et ne pas omettre les autres.
43 'Woe to you, the Pharisees, because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the market-places.
Malheur à vous, pharisiens, parce que vous aimez les premiers sièges dans les synagogues et les salutations dans les places publiques!
44 'Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because ye are as the unseen tombs, and the men walking above have not known.'
Malheur à vous, parce que vous êtes comme les sépulcres qui ne paraissent point; les hommes marchent dessus sans le savoir!
45 And one of the lawyers answering, saith to him, 'Teacher, these things saying, us also thou dost insult;'
Alors un des docteurs de la loi prenant la parole, lui dit: Maître, en disant cela, vous nous faites injure à nous aussi.
46 and he said, 'And to you, the lawyers, woe! because ye burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves with one of your fingers do not touch the burdens.
Mais Jésus dit: Et à vous aussi, docteurs de la loi, malheur; parce que vous imposez aux hommes des charges qu’ils ne peuvent porter, et que vous-mêmes ne touchez pas les fardeaux du bout du doigt!
47 'Woe to you, because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
Malheur à vous, qui bâtissez des tombeaux aux prophètes, et vos pères les ont tués!
48 Then do ye testify, and are well pleased with the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and ye do build their tombs;
Certes, vous témoignez bien que vous consentez aux œuvres de vos pères; car eux les ont tués, et vous, vous leur bâtissez des sépulcres.
49 because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute,
C’est pourquoi la sagesse même de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, et ils tueront les uns et persécuteront les autres;
50 that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation;
Afin qu’on redemande à cette génération le sang de tous les prophètes qui a été répandu depuis la fondation du monde;
51 from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yes, I say to you, It shall be required from this generation.
Depuis le sang d’Abel jusqu’au sang de Zacharie, qui périt entre l’autel et le temple. Oui, je vous le dis, il sera redemandé à cette génération.
52 'Woe to you, the lawyers, because ye took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves ye did not enter; and those coming in, ye did hinder.'
Malheur à vous, docteurs de la loi, parce que vous avez pris la clef de la science; vous n’êtes pas entrés vous-mêmes, et ceux qui entraient, vous les en avez empêchés!
53 And in his speaking these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began fearfully to urge and to press him to speak about many things,
Comme il leur disait ces choses, les pharisiens et les docteurs de la loi commencèrent à le presser, et à l’accabler d’une multitude de questions,
54 laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
Lui tendant des pièges, et cherchant à surprendre quelque parole de sa bouche pour l’accuser.
