Jérémie 13

1 Ainsi m'a parlé Yahweh: " Va t'acheter une ceinture de lin, et pose-là sur tes reins, mais ne la mets pas dans l'eau. "

Yahweh said this to me, “Go and buy a linen undergarment and put it on around your waist, but do not put it in water first.”

2 Et je m'achetai la ceinture, selon la parole de Yahweh, et je la mis sur mes reins.

So I bought an undergarment as Yahweh directed, and I put in on around my waist.

3 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée une seconde fois, en ces termes:

Then the word of Yahweh came to me a second time, saying,

4 " Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée et qui est sur tes reins; lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et là tu la cacheras dans une fente de rocher. "

“Take the undergarment that you purchased that is around your waist, get up and go now to Perath. Hide it there in a rock crevice.”

5 J'allai et je la cachai près de l'Euphrate, comme Yahweh me l'avait ordonné.

So I went and hid it in Perath, just as Yahweh had commanded me.

6 Et, au bout d'un grand nombre de jours, Yahweh me dit: " Lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et là reprends la ceinture que je t'ai commandé d'y cacher ".

After many days, Yahweh said to me, “Get up and go back to Perath. Take from there the undergarment that I had told you to hide.”

7 J'allai vers l'Euphrate, je creusai et je repris la ceinture au lieu où je l'avais cachée; et voilà que la ceinture était perdue, elle n'était plus bonne à rien.

So I went back to Perath and dug out the undergarment where I had hid it, and behold, it was destroyed and completely useless.

8 Et la parole de Yahweh me fut adressée, en ces termes:

Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

9 Ainsi parle Yahweh: C'est ainsi que je perdrai l'orgueil de Juda, et le grand orgueil de Jérusalem.

“Yahweh says this: In the same way I will destroy the great arrogance of Judah and Jerusalem.

10 Ce peuple mauvais qui refuse d'écouter mes paroles, qui suit l'opiniâtreté de son cœur et qui va après d'autres dieux pour les servir et les adorer, il sera comme cette ceinture, qui n'est plus bonne à rien.

This wicked people who refuses to listen to my word, who walk in the hardness of their heart, who go after other gods to worship them and bow down to them—they will be like this undergarment that is good for nothing.

11 Car, comme la ceinture est attachée aux reins de l'homme, ainsi je m'étais attaché toute la maison d'Israël et toute la maison de Juda, — oracle de Yahweh, afin qu'elles fussent pour moi un peuple, un nom, un honneur et une gloire; mais ils n'ont pas écouté!

For just as an undergarment clings to someone's hips, so I have made all the house of Israel and all the house of Judah cling to me—this is Yahweh's declaration—to be my people, to bring me fame, praise, and honor. But they would not listen to me.

12 Et tu leur diras cette parole: " Ainsi parle Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël: Toute cruche doit être remplie de vin. " Ils te répondront: " Ne savons-nous pas que toute cruche doit être remplie de vin? "

So you must speak this word to them, 'Yahweh, the God of Israel, says this: Every jar will be filled with wine.' They will say to you, 'Do we not indeed know that every jar will be filled with wine?'

13 Et tu leur diras: " Ainsi parle Yahweh: Je vais remplir tous les habitants de ce pays, et les rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David, les prêtres et les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, d'ivresse.

So say to them, 'Yahweh says this: See, I am about to fill with drunkenness every inhabitant of this land, the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

14 Et je les briserai les uns contre les autres, les pères et les fils ensemble, — oracle de Yahweh; je n'épargnerai pas, je n'aurai pas de compassion, je n'aurai pas de pitié pour ne pas les détruire.

Then I will smash each man against the other, fathers and children together—this is Yahweh's declaration—I will not pity them or have compassion, and I will not spare them from destruction.'”

15 Ecoutez, prêtez l'oreille, ne soyez point orgueilleux, car Yahweh a parlé.

Listen and pay attention. Do not be arrogant, for Yahweh had spoken.

16 Rendez gloire à Yahweh, votre Dieu, avant que viennent les ténèbres, que vos pieds se heurtent aux montagnes de la nuit, qu'il change en ombre de mort la lumière que vous attendez, et qu'il en fasse une obscurité profonde.

Give honor to Yahweh your God before he brings darkness, and before he causes your feet to stumble on the mountains at twilight. For you are hoping for light, but he will turn the place into a deep darkness, into a dark cloud.

17 Si vous n'écoutez pas cela, mon âme pleurera en secret, à cause de votre orgueil; mes yeux pleureront amèrement, se fondront en larmes, car le troupeau de Jacob sera emmené captif.

So if you will not listen, I will weep alone because of your arrogance. My eyes will certainly weep and flow with tears, for Yahweh's flock has been taken captive.

18 Dis au roi et à la reine: Asseyez-vous à terre, car elle tombe de votre tête, votre couronne de gloire.

“Say to the king and to the queen mother, 'Come down from your thrones, for your splendid crowns have fallen from your heads.'

19 Les villes du midi sont fermées, et personne ne les ouvre; Juda tout entier est déporté; la déportation est complète.

The cities in the Negev will be shut up, with no one to open them. All Judah will be taken captive, completely taken captive.

20 Lève les yeux et vois ceux qui viennent du septentrion: Où est le troupeau qui t'avait été donné, les brebis qui faisaient ta gloire?

Lift up your eyes and look at the ones coming from the north. Where is the flock he gave to you, the flock that was so beautiful to you?

21 Que diras-tu quand Yahweh te donnera pour maîtres ceux que tu as instuits contre toi — tes familiers? Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas, comme une femme qui enfante?

What will you say when God sets over you those you had trained to be your special allies? Are these not the beginnings of the labor pains that will seize you just like a woman in childbirth?

22 Et si tu dis dans ton cœur: " Pourquoi ces malheurs m'arrivent-ils?... " C'est à cause de la multitude de tes iniquités que les pans de ta robe ont été relevés, que tes talons ont été meurtris.

Then you might say in your heart, 'Why are these things happening to me?' It will be for the multitude of your iniquities that your skirts are raised up and you have been violated.

23 Un Ethiopien changera-t-il sa peau, un léopard ses taches? Et vous, pourriez-vous faire le bien, vous qui êtes appris à mal faire?

Can the people of Cush change their skin color, or a leopard change its spots? If so, then you yourself, although accustomed to wickedness, would be able to do good.

24 Je les disperserai comme la paille qui passe, au souffle du vent du désert.

So I will scatter them like chaff that perishes in the desert wind.

25 Tel est ton sort, la part que je te mesure, — oracle de Yahweh, parce que tu m'as oublié, que tu as mis ta confiance dans le mensonge.

This is what I have given to you, the portion I have decreed for you—this is Yahweh's declaration— because you have forgotten me and trusted in deceit.

26 Et moi aussi je relèverai les pans de ta robe sur ton visage, et l'on verra ta honte.

So also I myself will strip your skirts off you, and your private parts will be seen.

27 Tes adultères, tes hennissements, tes criminelles prostitutions, sur les collines en pleine campagne, toutes tes abominations, je les ai vues. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Tu es impure jusques à quand encore?

I have seen your adultery and neighing, the wickedness of your prostitution on the hills and in the fields, and I have seen these detestable things! Woe to you, Jerusalem! How long until you are made clean again?”
