2 Rois 23

1 Alors le Roi envoya, et on assembla vers lui tous les Anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.

Then the king sent, —and there were gathered unto him, all the elders of Judah, and Jerusalem;

2 Et le Roi monta à la maison de l'Eternel, et avec lui tous les hommes de Juda, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et les Sacrificateurs et les Prophètes, et tout le peuple, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, et on lut, eux l'entendant, toutes les paroles du Livre de l'alliance, qui avait été trouvé dans la maison de l'Eternel.

and the king went up to the house of Yahweh, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great, —and he read in their ears, all the words of the book of the covenant, which had been found in the house of Yahweh.

3 Et le Roi se tint auprès de la colonne, et traita devant l'Eternel cette alliance-ci, qu'ils suivraient l'Eternel, et qu'ils garderaient de tout leur cœur, et de toute leur âme, ses commandements, ses témoignages, et ses statuts, pour persévérer dans les paroles de cette alliance, écrites dans ce Livre; et tout le peuple se tint à cette alliance.

And the king took his stand by the pillar, and solemnised a covenant before Yahweh—to follow Yahweh, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all [their] heart and with all [their] soul, to confirm the words of this covenant, written in this book. And all the people took their stand in the covenant.

4 Alors le Roi commanda à Hilkija le grand Sacrificateur, et aux Sacrificateurs du second rang, et à ceux qui gardaient les vaisseaux, de tirer hors du Temple de l'Eternel tous les ustensiles qui avaient été faits pour Bahal, et pour les bocages, et pour toute l'armée des cieux; et il les brûla hors de Jérusalem dans les champs de Cédron, et on emporta leur poudre à Béthel.

Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the entrance-hall, to bring forth, out of the temple of Yahweh, all the vessels that had been made for Baal and for the Sacred Stem, and for all the army of the heavens, —and he burned them up outside Jerusalem, in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Bethel;

5 Et il abolit les prêtres des idoles, que les Rois de Juda avaient établis quand on faisait des encensements dans les hauts lieux, dans les villes de Juda, et autour de Jérusalem; il [abolit] aussi ceux qui faisaient des encensements à Bahal; au soleil, à la lune, et aux astres, à toute l'armée des cieux.

and he put down the idol-priests, whom the kings of Judah had appointed, so that incense might be burned in the high places, in the cities of Judah, and round about Jerusalem, —them also that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the constellations, and to all the army of the heavens;

6 Il fit aussi emporter le bocage de la maison de l'Eternel hors de Jérusalem, en la vallée de Cédron, et le brûla dans la vallée de Cédron; il le réduisit en poudre, et le jeta sur le sépulcre des enfants du peuple.

and he brought forth the Sacred Stem out of the house of Yahweh, outside Jerusalem, into the Kidron ravine, and burned it in the Kidron ravine, and crushed it to powder, —and cast the powder upon the graves of the sons of the people;

7 Ensuite il démolit les maisons des prostitués à paillardise, lesquelles étaient dans la maison de l'Eternel; [et] dans lesquelles les femmes travaillaient à faire des pavillons pour le bocage.

and he brake down the houses of the male devotees, which were in the house of Yahweh, —where the women did weave houses to the Sacred Stem;

8 Il fit aussi venir des villes de Juda tous les Sacrificateurs, et profana les hauts lieux où les Sacrificateurs avaient fait des encensements, depuis Guébah jusqu'à Béer-sebah; et il démolit les hauts lieux des portes qui étaient à l'entrée de la porte de Josué, capitaine de la ville, laquelle est à la gauche de la porte de la ville.

and be brought in all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where, the priests, had burned incense, from Geba unto Beer-sheba, —and brake down the high places of the gates, that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua, the governor of the city, which were on one’s left hand, in the gate of the city;

9 Au reste, ceux qui avaient été Sacrificateurs des hauts lieux ne montaient point vers l'autel de l'Eternel à Jérusalem, mais ils mangeaient des pains sans levain parmi leurs frères.

howbeit, the priests of the high places came not up unto the altar of Yahweh, in Jerusalem, save only that they did eat unleavened bread in the midst of their brethren;

10 Il profana aussi Topheth, qui était dans la vallée du fils de Hinnom, afin qu'il ne servît plus à personne pour y faire passer son fils ou sa fille par le feu, à Molec.

and he defiled Topheth, which was in the valley of the son of Hinnom, —so that no man might cause his son or his daughter to pass through the fire unto Molech;

11 Il ôta aussi de l'entrée de la maison de l'Eternel les chevaux que les Rois de Juda avaient consacrés au soleil, vers le logis de Néthanmélec Eunuque, situé à Parvarim, et il brûla au feu les chariots du soleil.

and he did away with the horses, which the kings of Judah had devoted to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Yahweh, near the chamber of Nathan-melech the courtier, which was in the suburbs, also, the chariots of the sun, burned he with fire;

12 Le Roi démolit aussi les autels qui étaient sur le toit de la chambre haute d'Achaz, que les Rois de Juda avaient faits, et les autels que Manassé avait faits dans les deux parvis de la maison de l'Eternel; il les brisa, les ôtant de là, et il en répandit la poudre au torrent de Cédron.

and, the altars which were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, also the altars which Manasseh had made, in the two courts of the house of Yahweh, did the king break down, —and hurried away from thence, and cast out the powder of them into the Kidron ravine;

13 Le Roi profana aussi les hauts lieux qui étaient vis-à-vis de Jérusalem à la main droite sur la montagne des oliviers, [que] Salomon Roi d'Israël avait bâtis à Hastareth, l'abomination des Sidoniens; et à Kémos, l'abomination des Moabites; et à Milkom, l'abomination des enfants de Hammon.

and, the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of destruction, which Solomon king of Israel had built unto Ashtoreth—the abomination of the Zidonians, and unto Chemosh—the abomination of the Moabites, and unto Milcom—the disgusting thing of the sons of Ammon, did the king defile;

14 Il brisa aussi les statues, et coupa les bocages, et remplit d'ossements d'hommes les lieux ou ils étaient.

and he brake in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Sacred Stems, —and filled their place with human bones:

15 Il démolit aussi l'autel qui était à Bethel, [et] le haut lieu qu'avait fait Jéroboam fils de Nébat, qui avait fait pécher Israël, cet autel-là, dis-je, et le haut lieu; il brûla le haut lieu, et le réduisit en poudre, et brûla le bocage.

moreover also, the altar that was in Bethel, the high place which Jeroboam son of Nebat made, wherewith he caused, Israel, to sin, —even that altar, and the high place, brake he down, —and burned the high place, crushing it to powder, and burned a Sacred Stem.

16 Or Josias s'étant tourné, avait vu les sépulcres qui étaient là en la montagne, et il avait envoyé prendre les os des sépulcres, et les avait brûlés sur l'autel, et il l'avait ainsi profané, suivant la parole de l'Eternel, que l'homme de Dieu avait prononcée à haute voix, lorsqu'il prononça ces choses-là à haute voix.

And, when Josiah turned, and saw the graves which were there, in the mount, he sent and took the bones out of the graves, and burned upon the altar, and defiled it, —according to the word of Yahweh, which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

17 Et le Roi avait dit: Qu'est-ce que ce tombeau que je vois? Et les hommes de la ville lui avaient répondu: C'est le sépulcre de l'homme de Dieu qui vint de Juda, et qui prononça à haute voix les choses que tu as faites sur l'autel de Bethel.

Then said he—What is yonder erection, which I do see? And the men of the city said unto him—The grave of the man of God, who came in out of Judah, and proclaimed these things, which thou hast done, concerning the altar of Bethel.

18 Et il avait dit: Laissez-le, que personne ne remue ses os; ainsi ils avaient préservé ses os, avec les os du Prophète qui était venu de Samarie.

And he said—Let him rest, let, no man, disturb his bones. So they let his bones rest, with the bones of the prophet who came in out of Samaria.

19 Josias ôta aussi toutes les maisons des hauts lieux qui étaient dans les villes de Samarie, que les Rois d'Israël avaient faites pour irriter [l'Eternel]; et il leur fit selon tout ce qu'il avait fait à Bethel.

Moreover also, all the houses of the high places which were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made, so as to provoke Yahweh to anger, did Josiah remove, —and he did to them according to all the doings which he had done in Bethel;

20 Et il sacrifia sur les autels tous les sacrificateurs des hauts lieux qui étaient là, et brûla sur eux des ossements d'hommes; puis il s'en retourna à Jérusalem.

and he sacrificed all the priests of the high places, who were there, by the altars, and burned human bones thereupon, —and returned to Jerusalem.

21 Alors le Roi commanda à tout le peuple, en disant: Célébrez la Pâque à l'Eternel votre Dieu, en la manière qu'il est écrit au Livre de cette alliance.

Then did the king command all the people, saying, Keep ye a passover unto Yahweh, your God, —such as is written in this book of the covenant.

22 Et certainement jamais Pâque ne fut célébrée dans le temps des Juges qui avaient jugé en Israël, ni dans tout le temps des Rois d'Israël, et des Rois de Juda,

Surely there had not been held such a passover as this, from the days of the Judges who judged Israel, —nor all the days of the kings of Israel, and the kings of Judah;

23 Comme cette Pâque qui fut célébrée en l'honneur de l'Eternel dans Jérusalem, la dix-huitième année du Roi Josias.

save only, in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, when this passover was held unto Yahweh, in Jerusalem.

24 Josias extermina aussi ceux qui avaient des esprits de Python, les diseurs de bonne aventure, les Théraphims, les dieux de fiente, et toutes les abominations qui avaient été vues dans le pays de Juda, et dans Jérusalem; afin d'accomplir les paroles de la Loi, écrites au livre qu' Hilkija le Sacrificateur avait trouvé dans la maison de l'Eternel.

Moreover also, them who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the household gods, and the manufactured gods, and the abominations which were to be seen in the land of Judah, and in Jerusalem, did Josiah consume, —that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of Yahweh.

25 Avant lui il n'y eut point de Roi qui lui fut semblable, qui se retournât vers l'Eternel de tout son cœur, et de toute son âme, et de toute sa force; selon toute la Loi de Moïse; et après lui il ne s'en est point levé de semblable à lui.

And, like him, was no king, before him, who turned unto Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses, —neither, after him, arose one, like him.

26 Toutefois l'Eternel ne revint point de l'ardeur de sa grande colère de laquelle il avait été embrasé contre Juda, à cause de tout ce que Manassé avait fait pour l'irriter.

Howbeit, Yahweh turned not away from the glow of his great anger, wherewith his anger glowed against Judah—because of all the provocations wherewith, Manasseh, had provoked him.

27 Car l'Eternel avait dit: Je rejetterai aussi Juda de devant ma face, comme j'ai rejeté Israël; et je rejetterai cette ville de Jérusalem, que j'ai choisie, et la maison de laquelle j'ai dit: Mon nom sera là.

So Yahweh said: Even Judah, will I remove from my presence, as I have removed Israel, —and will reject this city, which I had chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house as to which I had said, My Name, shall be, there.

28 Le reste des faits de Josias, tout ce, dis-je, qu'il a fait, n'est-il pas écrit au Livre des Chroniques des Rois de Juda?

Now, the rest of the story of Josiah, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

29 De son temps, Pharaon-Néco Roi d'Egypte monta contre le Roi des Assyriens vers le fleuve d'Euphrate, et Josias s'en alla au devant de lui, mais dès que Pharaon l'eut vu, il le tua à Méguiddo.

In his days, came up Pharaoh-necoh king of Egypt, against the king of Assyria, unto the river Euphrates, —and, when King Josiah went against him, he slew him at Megiddo, as soon as he saw him.

30 Et ses serviteurs le chargèrent mort sur un chariot de Méguiddo, et le portèrent à Jérusalem, et l'ensevelirent dans son sépulcre; et le peuple du pays prit Jéhoachaz, fils de Josias, et ils l'oignirent, et l'établirent Roi en la place de son père.

And his servants conveyed him in a chariot, dead, from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre, —and the people of the land took Jehoahaz, son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made, him, king, in his father’s stead.

31 Jéhoachaz était âgé de vingt et trois ans, quand il commença à régner, et il régna trois mois à Jérusalem; sa mère avait nom Hamutal, fille de Jérémie de Libna.

Twenty-three years old, was Jehoahaz when he began to reign, and, three months, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah, of Libnah.

32 Il fit ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, comme avaient fait ses pères.

And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his, fathers, had done.

33 Et Pharaon-Néco l'emprisonna à Ribla, au pays de Hamath, afin qu'il ne régnât plus à Jérusalem; et il imposa sur le pays une amende de cent talents d'argent, et d'un talent d'or.

And Pharaoh-necoh put him in bonds at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem, —and he laid a fine upon the land, a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

34 Puis Pharaon-Néco établit pour Roi Eliakim fils de Josias, en la place de Josias son père, et lui changea son nom, [l'appelant] Jéhojakim; et il prît Jéhoachaz, qui vint en Egypte, où il mourut.

And Pharaoh-necoh made Eliakim son of Josiah king, instead of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, —and, Jehoahaz, took he away, so he entered Egypt, and died there.

35 Or Jéhojakim donna cet argent et cet or à Pharaon, ayant mis des taxes sur le pays pour fournir cet argent selon le commandement de Pharaon; [et] il leva l'argent et l'or de chacun du peuple du pays selon qu'il était taxé, pour donner à Pharaon-Néco.

And, the silver and the gold, did Jehoiakim give unto Pharaoh, howbeit he assessed the land, that he might give the silver at the bidding of Pharaoh, —every man, according to his assessment, exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, that he might give it to Pharaoh-necoh.

36 Jéhojakim était âgé de vingt-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna onze ans à Jérusalem; sa mère avait nom Zebudda, fille de Pédaja de Ruma.

Twenty-five years old, was Jehoiakim when he began to reign, and, eleven years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Zebudah daughter of Pedaiah, of Rumah.

37 Il fit ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, comme avaient fait ses pères.

And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —according to all that, his fathers, had done.
