Romains 8

1 Il n'y a donc plus maintenant de condamnation pour ceux qui sont en Jésus-Christ,

There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

2 parce que la Loi de l'Esprit de vie nous a affranchis, en Jésus-Christ, de la loi du péché et de la mort.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 Ce qui était impossible à la Loi, la chair lui ôtant toute force, Dieu l'a fait en envoyant son propre Fils, à cause du péché, prendre une chair de péché semblable à la nôtre; il a condamné le péché dans la chair même,

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4 afin que le décret de la Loi s'accomplît en nous, en ceux qui ne marchent pas selon la chair, mais selon l'Esprit.

That the righteousness of the law may be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

5 Ceux qui sont selon la chair s'attachent à ce qui est de la chair; ceux qui sont selon l'Esprit, à ce qui est de l'Esprit;

For they that are according to the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are according to the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 or l'attachement pour la chair mène à la mort, l'attachement pour l'Esprit, à la vie et au salut,

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 parce que l'attachement pour la chair est une inimitié contre Dieu, puisqu'il ne se soumet pas à la Loi de Dieu (et même il ne le peut pas).

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 Ceux qui sont dans la chair ne peuvent plaire à Dieu;

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 mais vous, vous n'êtes pas dans la chair, mais dans l'Esprit, si toutefois l'Esprit de Dieu habite en vous. — Si quelqu'un n'a pas l'Esprit de Christ, il ne lui appartient pas. —

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. Now if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

10 Si Christ est en vous, votre corps est, il est vrai, soumis à la mort à cause du péché, mais votre esprit l'est à la vie à cause de la justice.

And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 Si l'Esprit de Celui qui a ressuscité Jésus des morts habite en vous, lui qui a ressuscité Jésus des morts donnera aussi la vie à vos corps mortels au moyen de son Esprit qui demeure en vous.

But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised Christ from the dead shall also give life to your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12 Ainsi, mes frères, nous sommes obligés non envers la chair pour vivre selon la chair...

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

13 Si vous vivez selon la chair, vous devez vous attendre à mourir. Si, au contraire, vous tuez par l'Esprit l'activité du corps, vous vivrez,

For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 parce que tous ceux qui se laissent conduire par l'Esprit de Dieu, sont fils de Dieu,

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 et que vous n'avez point reçu un esprit de servitude pour craindre encore, mais que vous avez reçu un Esprit d'adoption, par lequel nous nous écrions: Abba! Père!

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.

16 Cet Esprit atteste lui-même à notre esprit que nous sommes enfants de Dieu,

The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 et si nous sommes enfants, nous sommes aussi héritiers; héritiers de Dieu, cohéritiers de Christ, si nous participons à ses souffrances pour participer aussi à sa gloire.

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together.

18 J'estime, en effet, que les souffrances d'à présent ne sont rien en comparaison de la gloire qui doit un jour se révéler pour nous.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19 Car la création attend avec impatience cette révélation des fils de Dieu,

For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.

20 parce que ce n'est pas de son propre gré qu'elle a été assujettie à la fragilité; elle l'a été au gré de celui qui l'a assujettie,

For the creation was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 et elle espère être affranchie, elle aussi, de la servitude de la corruption et passer à la glorieuse liberté des enfants de Dieu.

Because the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 Nous savons, en effet, que jusqu'à présent la création tout entière gémit, elle est dans les angoisses de l'enfantement;

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 et ce n'est pas elle seulement, c'est nous aussi qui avons reçu comme prémices l'Esprit et qui gémissons en nous-mêmes, attendant l'adoption, c'est-à-dire la délivrance de notre corps.

And not only they, but ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, that is, the redemption of our body.

24 Car c'est en espérance que nous sommes sauvés; or une espérance dont on voit l'objet n'est plus une espérance; ce qu'on voit, pourquoi l'espérer encore?

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 Mais si nous espérons ce que nous ne voyons pas, c'est que nous attendons avec persévérance.

But if we hope for what we see not, then with patience we wait for it.

26 De plus, l'Esprit supplée aussi à notre faiblesse; nous ne savons pas, en effet, ce qu'il faut demander dans nos prières, mais l'Esprit lui-même intercède pour nous par des soupirs et sans paroles.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 Or, Celui qui scrute les coeurs connaît les désirs de l'Esprit, parce que celui-ci intercède pour les fidèles selon les vues de Dieu;

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 et nous savons que tout contribue au bien de ceux qui aiment Dieu, de ceux qui sont élus d'après son décret;

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 nous savons que ceux qu'il a connus d'avance, ont été aussi prédestinés par lui à reproduire l'image de son Fils qui sera ainsi l'aîné de plusieurs frères;

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 et ceux qu'il a prédestinés, il les a aussi appelés; ceux qu'il a appelés, il les a aussi justifiés; ceux qu'il a justifiés il les a aussi glorifiés.

Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 Que dire de plus? Si Dieu est pour nous, qui sera contre nous?

What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32 Lui qui n'a pas épargné son propre Fils, mais l'a livré à la mort pour nous tous, comment ne nous donnerait-il pas toutes choses avec lui?

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33 Qui osera accuser les élus de Dieu? Serait-ce Dieu qui les «justifie?»

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 «Qui les condamnera?» Serait-ce Jésus-Christ, qui est mort? plus encore, qui est ressuscité, qui est assis à la droite de Dieu, qui intercède pour nous?

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, or rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Qui nous arrachera à l'amour du Christ? Sera-ce la tribulation? ou l'angoisse? ou la persécution? ou la faim? ou le dénuement? ou les périls? ou le glaive?

What shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 «A cause de toi», comme dit l'Écriture, «nous sommes mis à mort tout le long du jour; On nous considère comme des brebis pour la boucherie»,

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Mais, dans tous ces combats, nous restons plus que vainqueurs, grâce à Celui qui nous a aimés!

But, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 Oui, je suis certain que ni la mort ni la vie, ni les anges ni les dominations, ni le présent ni l'avenir,

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 ni les puissances, ni les forces d'en haut ni les forces d'en bas, ni une création quelconque, ne pourra nous arracher à l'amour de Dieu en Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur!

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
