Matthaeus 10
1 Dann rief er seine zwölf Jünger zu sich her, gab ihnen Macht, unreine Geister auszutreiben und alle Krankheiten und jegliches Gebrechen zu heilen.
Calling his twelve Disciples to him, Jesus gave them authority over foul spirits, so that they could drive them out, as well as the power of curing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
2 Dies sind die Namen der zwölf Apostel: An erster Stelle Simon, der auch Petrus heißt, und Andreas, dessen Bruder; Jakobus, des Zebedäus' Sohn, und Johannes, dessen Bruder;
The names of the twelve Apostles are these: First Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebediah, and his brother John;
3 Philippus und Bartholomäus; Thomas und Matthäus, der Zöllner; Jakobus, des Alphäus' Sohn, und Thaddäus;
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax-gather; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
4 Simon, der Eiferer, und Judas Iskariot, der ihn dann verriet.
Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot — the Apostle who betrayed him.
5 Diese Zwölf sandte Jesus mit der Warnung aus: "Gehet nicht den Weg, der zu den Heiden führt, betretet keine Samariterstadt,
These twelve Jesus sent out as his Messengers, after giving them these instructions — “Do not go to the Gentiles, nor enter any Samaritan town,
6 geht vielmehr nur zu den verlorenen Schafen aus dem Hause Israel.
but make your way rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
7 So geht denn hin und verkündet: 'Das Himmelreich ist nahe.'
And on your way proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
8 Heilet Kranke, wecket Tote auf, Aussätzige machet rein, treibt Dämonen aus. Umsonst habt ihr es empfangen, gebt es umsonst auch wieder her.
Cure the sick, raise the dead, make the lepers clean, drive out demons. You have received free of cost, give free of cost.
9 Verschafft euch weder Gold noch Silber, noch Geld für eure Gürtel;
Do not provide yourselves with gold, or silver, or pence in your purses;
10 nehmt keinen Bettelsack mit auf den Weg, auch nicht zwei Röcke, keine Schuhe, keinen Stab. Denn der Arbeiter ist seines Unterhalts wert.
not even with a bag for the journey, or a change of clothes, or sandals, or even a staff; for the worker is worth his food.
11 Betretet ihr dann eine Stadt oder ein Dorf, so fraget nach, wer dort würdig sei. Bleibt dort, bis ihr wieder weiterziehet.
Whatever town or village you visit, find out who is worthy in that place, and remain there till you leave.
12 Betretet ihr das Haus, alsdann entbietet ihm den Gruß und saget: 'Der Friede sei mit diesem Hause'.
As you enter the house, greet it.
13 Ist das Haus es würdig, so komme euer Friede über dieses Haus. Ist es dessen aber unwert, alsdann wird euer Friede zu euch zurückkehren.
Then, if the house is worthy, let your blessing rest upon it, but, if it is unworthy, let your blessing return upon yourselves.
14 Doch wo man euch nicht aufnimmt und eure Worte nicht hören mag, da verlasset jenes Haus oder jene Stadt und schüttelt den Staub von euren Füßen.
If no one welcomes you, or listens to what you say, as you leave that house or that town, shake off its dust from your feet.
15 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Dem Lande Sodoma und Gomorrha wird es am Tage des Gerichts erträglicher ergehen als jener Stadt.
I tell you, the doom of the land of Sodom and Gomorrah will be more bearable in the ‘Day of Judgment’ than the doom of that town.
16 Seht, ich sende euch wie Schafe mitten unter Wölfe. So seid denn klug wie die Schlangen und arglos wie die Tauben.
Remember, I am sending you out as my Messengers like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as serpents, and as blameless as doves.
17 Doch vor den Menschen hütet euch. Sie werden euch den Gerichten übergeben und in ihren Synagogen geißeln.
Be on your guard against your fellow men, for they will betray you to courts of law, and scourge you in their Synagogues;
18 Auch vor Statthalter und Könige werdet ihr geschleppt um meinetwillen, ihnen und den Heiden zum Zeugnis
and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, that you may witness for me before them and the nations.
19 Wenn ihr dann ausgeliefert seid, so macht euch keine Sorge, wie und was ihr reden sollt. es wird euch in jener Stunde eingegeben werden, was ihr zu reden habt.
Whenever they betray you, do not be anxious as to how you shall speak or what you shall say, for what you shall say will be given you at the moment;
20 Denn alsdann seid nicht ihr es, die da reden, vielmehr ist es der Geist eures Vaters, der aus euch redet.
for it will not be you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaks within you.
21 Der Bruder wird den eigenen Bruder zum Tode überliefern, der Vater das Kind; Kinder werden gegen ihre Eltern auftreten und sie in den Tod bringen.
Brother will betray brother to death, and the father his child; and children will turn against their parents, and cause them to be put to death;
22 Von allen werdet ihr um meines Namens willen gehaßt werden. Doch wer ausharrt bis ans Ende, wird gerettet werden.
and you will be hated by every one on account of my Name. Yet the man that endures to the end shall be saved.
23 Wenn man euch in der einen Stadt verfolgt, so flieht in die andere. Wahrlich ich sage euch: Ihr werdet mit den Städten Israels noch nicht zu Ende sein, bis der Menschensohn erscheint.
But, when they persecute you in one town, escape to the next; for, I tell you, you will not have come to the end of the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 Der Schüler steht nicht über seinem Meister, der Knecht nicht über seinem Herrn.
A scholar is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
25 Der Schüler muß zufrieden sein, wenn es ihm ergeht wie seinem Meister, der Knecht, wenn es ihm ergeht wie seinem Herrn. Hat man den Hausherrn 'Beezebul' gescholten, um wieviel mehr dann seine Hausgenossen.
It is enough for a scholar to be treated like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Baal-zebub, how much more the members of his household!
26 Fürchtet sie also nicht. Denn es ist nichts geheim, was nicht offenkundig wird und nichts verborgen, was nicht bekannt wird.
Do not, therefore, be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed which will not be revealed, nor anything hidden which will not become known.
27 Was ich euch im dunkeln sage, das kündigt im Tageslicht; was ihr nur leis ins Ohr vernommen, das verkündet von den Dächern.
What I tell you in the dark, say again in the light; and what is whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
28 Fürchtet euch nicht vor denen, die den Leib zwar töten, aber die Seele nicht töten können. Fürchtet vielmehr den, der Seele und Leib dem Verderben in der Hölle überliefern kann. (Geenna g1067)
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; rather be afraid of him who is able to destroy both soul and body in the Pit. (Geenna g1067)
29 Kauft man nicht zwei Sperlinge um ein paar Pfennige? Und doch fällt nicht ein einziger von ihnen auf die Erde, ohne daß euer Vater es so wollte.
Are not two sparrows sold for a half-penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
30 Bei euch aber sind selbst die Haare eures Hauptes gezählt.
While as for you, the very hairs of your head are numbered.
31 Fürchtet euch also nicht. Denn ihr seid weit mehr wert als viele Sperlinge.
Do not, therefore, be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Wer immer vor den Menschen sich zu mir bekennt, zu dem will ich auch mich bekennen vor meinem Vater, der in den Himmeln ist.
Every one, therefore, who shall acknowledge me before his fellow men, I, too, will acknowledge before my Father who is in Heaven;
33 Wer aber mich vor den Menschen verleugnet, den will auch ich vor meinem Vater verleugnen, der in den Himmeln ist.
but, if any one disowns me before his fellow men, I, too, will disown him before my Father who is in Heaven.
34 Glaubt nicht, ich sei gekommen, Frieden in die Welt zu bringen. Nicht den Frieden wollte ich bringen, vielmehr das Schwert.
Do not imagine that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring, not peace, but the sword.
35 Ich bin gekommen, den Sohn mit seinem Vater zu entzweien, die Tochter mit ihrer Mutter, die Schwiegertochter mit ihrer Schwiegermutter;
For I have come to set — ‘a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 Feinde eines Menschen sind also seine eigenen Hausgenossen.
A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
37 Wer Vater oder Mutter mehr liebt als mich, der ist meiner nicht wert; wer den Sohn oder die Tochter mehr liebt als mich, der ist meiner nicht wert.
He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 Und wer sein Kreuz nicht nimmt und mir nicht nachfolgt, der ist meiner nicht wert.
And the man who does not take his cross and follow in my steps is not worthy of me.
39 Wer sein Leben findet, der wird es verlieren; doch wer sein Leben mir zulieb verliert, der wird es finden.
He who has found his life will lose it, while he who, for my sake, has lost his life shall find it.
40 Wer euch aufnimmt, nimmt mich auf, und wer mich aufnimmt, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat
He who welcomes you is welcoming me; and he who welcomes me is welcoming him who sent me as his Messenger.
41 Wer einen Propheten aufnimmt, weil er ein Prophet ist, wird den Lohn eines Propheten erhalten. Wer einen Frommen aufnimmt, weil er ein Frommer ist, wird den Lohn eines Frommen erhalten.
He who welcomes a Prophet, because he is a Prophet, shall receive a Prophet’s reward; and he who welcomes a good man, because he is a good man, shall receive a good man’s reward.
42 Wer einem dieser Kleinen hier nur einen Becher frischen Wassers reicht, weil er mein Jünger ist, wahrlich, ich sage euch: er wird seines Lohnes nicht verlustig gehen."
And, if any one gives but a cup of cold water to one of these lowly ones because he is a disciple, I tell you that he shall assuredly not lose his reward.”
