1 Als nun das Königtum in Salomos Hand gefestigt war, verschwägerte sich Salomo mit dem Pharao, dem Könige von Ägypten. Und er nahm die Tochter des Pharao und brachte sie in die Stadt Davids, bis er den Bau seines Palastes und des Tempels Jahwes und der Mauer rings um Jerusalem vollendet hatte.
And Solomon joineth in marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and taketh the daughter of Pharaoh, and bringeth her in unto the city of David, till he completeth to build his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2 Nur opferte das Volk noch auf den Höhen; denn bis zu dieser Zeit war dem Namen Jahwes noch kein Wohnsitz gebaut.
Only, the people are sacrificing in high places, for there hath not been built a house for the name of Jehovah till those days.
3 Salomo aber hatte Jahwe lieb, so daß er in den Satzungen seines vaters David wandelte; nur opferte und räucherte er noch auf den Höhen.
And Solomon loveth Jehovah, to walk in the statutes of David his father — only, in high places he is sacrificing and making perfume —
4 Und der König begab sich nach Gibeon, um daselbst zu opfern; denn das war die vornehmste Höhe. Tausend brandopfer brachte Salomo auf selbigem Altare dar.
and the king goeth to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for it [is] the great high place; a thousand burnt-offerings cause to ascend doth Solomon on that altar.
5 Zu Gibeon erschien Jahwe dem Salomo des Nachts im Traume. Und Gott sprach: Bitte, was ich dir geben soll!
In Gibeon hath Jehovah appeared unto Solomon, in a dream of the night, and God saith, 'Ask — what do I give to thee?'
6 Da antwortete Salomo: Du hast deinem Knechte, meinem Vater David, große Huld erwiesen, wie er denn in Treue und Frömmigkeit und aufrichtiger Gesinnung gegen dich vor deinem Angesichte gewandelt hat; und du hast ihm diese große Huld bewahrt und ihm einen Sohn verliehen, der auf seinem Throne sitzt, wie es jetzt der Fall ist.
And Solomon saith, 'Thou hast done with Thy servant David my father great kindness, as he walked before Thee in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee, and Thou dost keep for him this great kindness, and dost give to him a son sitting on his throne, as [at] this day.
7 Nun denn, Jahwe, mein Gott, du hast deinem Knecht an meines vaters David Statt zum Könige gemacht. Ich aber bin ein junger Mensch und weiß nicht aus, noch ein.
And now, O Jehovah my God, Thou hast caused thy servant to reign instead of David my father; and I [am] a little child, I do not know to go out and to come in;
8 Und dein Knecht ist inmitten deines Volks, das du erwählt hast, eines so großen Volks, daß es vor Menge nicht zu zählen, noch zu berechnen ist.
and Thy servant [is] in the midst of thy people, whom Thou hast chosen, a people numerous, that is not numbered nor counted for multitude,
9 So wollest du denn deinem Knecht ein gehorsames Herz geben, daß er dein Volk regieren möge und zu unterscheiden wisse zwischen gut und böse. Denn wer vermöchte sonst dieses dein mächtiges Volk zu regieren?
and Thou hast given to Thy servant an understanding heart, to judge Thy people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this Thy great people?'
10 das gefiel dem Herrn wohl, daß Salomo solches erbat.
And the thing is good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon hath asked this thing,
11 Und Gott sprach zu ihm: Weil du darum gebeten und dir nicht langes Leben oder Reichtum oder auch den Tod deiner Feinde erbeten hast, sondern um Verstand gebeten hast, um auf recht zu hören,
and God saith unto him, 'Because that thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thee many days, nor asked for thee riches, nor asked the life of thine enemies, and hast asked for thee discernment to understand judgment,
12 so will ich deine Bitte erfüllen: ich will dir ein weises und verständiges Herz geben, daß deinesgleichen weder vor dir gewesen sein, noch nach dir erstehen soll.
lo, I have done according to thy words; lo, I have given to thee a heart, wise and understanding, that like thee there hath not been before thee, and after thee there doth not arise like thee;
13 Aber auch das, worum du nicht gebeten hast, will ich dir verleihen: sowohl Reichtum als Ehre, daß deinesgleichen keiner sein soll unter den Königen all' dein Leben lang.
and also, that which thou hast not asked I have given to thee, both riches and honour, that there hath not been like thee a man among the kings all thy days;
14 Und wenn du in meinen Wegen wandeln wirst, daß du meine Satzungen und Gebote beobachtest, wie dein Vater David gewandelt hat, so will ich dir auch ein langes Leben verleihen!
and if thou dost walk in My ways to keep My statutes, and My commands, as David thy father walked, then I have prolonged thy days.'
15 Als aber Salomo erwachte, war es ein Traum gewesen. Als er nun nach Jerusalem gelangt war, trat er vor die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes, opferte Brandopfer und brachte Heilsopfer dar; darauf ließ er für alle seine Diener ein Mahl bereiten.
And Solomon awaketh, and lo, a dream; and he cometh in to Jerusalem, and standeth before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings, and maketh peace-offerings. And he maketh a banquet for all his servants,
16 Damals kamen zwei Huren zum König und traten vor ihn.
then come in do two women, harlots, unto the king, and stand before him,
17 Und das eine Weib sprach: Bitte, mein Herr, ich und dieses Weib da wohnen in einem und denselben Hause, und ich gebar in ihrem Beisein in dem Hause.
and the one woman saith, 'O, my lord, I and this woman are dwelling in one house, and I bring forth with her, in the house;
18 Am dritten Tag aber, nachdem ich geboren hatte, gebar auch dieses weib; und wir waren beieinander, ohne daß jemand fremdes mit uns im Hause war: nur wir beide waren im Hause.
and it cometh to pass on the third day of my bringing forth, that this woman also bringeth forth, and we [are] together, there is no stranger with us in the house, save we two, in the house.
19 Da starb der Sohn dieses Weibes in der Nacht, denn sie hatte ihn im Schlaf erdrückt.
And the son of this woman dieth at night, because she hath lain upon it,
20 Sie aber stand mitten in der Nacht auf, nahm meinen Sohn von meiner Seite, während deine Magd schlief, und legte ihn an ihren Busen; ihren toten Sohn aber legte sie an meinen Busen.
and she riseth in the middle of the night, and taketh my son from beside me — and thy handmaid is asleep — and layeth it in her bosom, and her dead son she hath laid in my bosom;
21 Als ich nun des Morgens aufstand, meinen Sohn zu säugen, fand sich daß er tot war. Als ich ihn aber am Morgen genau betrachtete, fand sich, daß es nicht mein Sohn war, den ich geboren hatte.
and I rise in the morning to suckle my son, and lo, dead; and I consider concerning it in the morning, and lo, it was not my son whom I did bear.'
22 Das andere weib aber sprach: Nein! sondern mein Sohn ist der lebendige, und dein Sohn ist der tote! Und jene behauptete: Nein! sondern dein Sohn ist der tote, und mein Sohn ist der lebendige! Also stritten sie vor dem Könige.
And the other woman saith, 'Nay, but my son [is] the living, and thy son the dead;' and this [one] saith, 'Nay, but thy son [is] the dead, and my son the living.' And they speak before the king.
23 Da sprach der König: Diese behauptet: der da ist mein Sohn, der lebendige, und dein Sohn ist der tote! Und jene behauptet: Nein! sondern dein Sohn ist der tote, und mein Sohn ist der lebendige!
And the king saith, 'This [one] saith, This [is] my son, the living, and thy son [is] the dead; and that [one] saith, Nay, but thy son [is] the dead, and my son the living.'
24 Darauf gebot der König: Holt mir ein Schwert! Als man aber das Schwert vor den König gebracht hatte,
And the king saith, 'Take for me a sword;' and they bring the sword before the king,
25 gebot der König: Zerschneidet den lebendigen Knaben in zwei Teile und gebt dieser die Hälfte und jener die Hälfte!
and the king saith, 'Cut the living child into two, and give the half to the one, and the half to the other.'
26 Da sprach das weib, dessen Sohn der lebendige war, zum Könige - denn die Liebe zu ihrem Sohne regte sich heftig in ihr - sie sprach: Bitte, mein Herr, gebt ihr das lebendige Kind und tötet es ja nicht! Jene aber rief: Es soll weder mir noch dir gehören: schneidet durch!
And the woman whose son [is] the living one saith unto the king (for her bowels yearned over her son), yea, she saith, 'O, my lord, give to her the living child, and put it not at all to death;' and this [one] saith, 'Let it be neither mine or thine — cut [it].'
27 Da entschied der König: die, welche bat: gebt ihr das lebendige Kind und tötet es ja nicht! - die ist seine Mutter!
And the king answereth and saith, 'Give ye to her the living child, and put it not at all to death; she [is] its mother.'
28 Als nun ganz Israel von dem Urteile vernahm, das der König gefällt hatte, wurden sie von Verehrung für den König erfüllt, denn sie erkannten, daß göttliche Weisheit in ihm war, Gerechtigkeit zu üben.
And all Israel hear of the judgment that the king hath judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God [is] in his heart, to do judgment.
