Job 33
1 Nun aber höre, Hiob, meine Rede und allen meinen Worten leih' dein Ohr.
But, in very deed, hear, I pray thee, Job, my discourse, and, to all my words, give thou ear.
2 Siehe doch, ich thue meinen Mund auf, und meine Zunge redet unter meinem Gaumen.
Lo! I pray thee, I have opened my mouth, My tongue, with my palate, hath spoken,
3 Geradem Sinn entstammen meine Worte, und was meine Lippen wissen, sprechen sie lauter aus.
Mine utterances come straight from mine own heart, and, what I know, my lips have truly spoken;
4 Der Geist Gottes hat mich geschaffen, und des Allmächtigen Odem belebt mich.
The spirit of GOD, hath made me, and, the inspiration of the Almighty, giveth me life.
5 Wenn du kannst, so widerlege mich; rüste dich gegen mich, stelle dich zum Kampf.
If thou art able to answer me, Set in order before me—take thy stand!
6 Siehe, ich stehe zu Gott, wie du; aus gleichem Thon wie du bin ich geschnitten.
Lo! I am like thyself toward GOD, From clay, have I been nipped off, even I!
7 Nein, Furcht vor mir braucht dich nicht zu erschrecken, und meine Hand soll dich nicht niederdrücken.
Lo! my terror, will not startle thee, nor, my hand, upon thee, be heavy.
8 Allein, vor meinen Ohren sagtest du - ich vernahm den Laut deiner Worte:
But thou hast spoken in mine ears, and, the sound of words, I heard: —
9 “Rein bin ich, ohne Missethat, bin lauter und frei von Schuld.
Pure am, I, without transgression, —Clean am, I, and have no iniquity;
10 Fürwahr, Feindseligkeiten erfindet er gegen mich, erachtet mich für seinen Feind,
Lo! occasions of hostility, would he find against me, He counteth me an enemy to him;
11 legt meine Füße in den Block, beobachtet alle meine Wege.”
He putteth—in the stocks—my feet, He watcheth all my paths.
12 Sieh, darin hast du Unrecht, erwidere ich dir; denn Gott ist größer als ein Mensch.
Lo! in this, thou hast not been right—let me answer thee, For, GOD, is greater than, man.
13 Warum hast du gegen ihn gehadert, daß er auf alle deine Worte keine Antwort erteile?
Wherefore, against him, hast thou contended? For, with none of his reasons, will he respond.
14 Denn freilich spricht Gott einmal, auch zweimal - aber man beachtet es nicht.
For, in one way, GOD may speak, —and, in a second way, one may not heed it: —
15 Im Traum, im Nachtgesicht, wenn tiefer Schlaf auf die Menschen fällt, im Schlummer auf dem Lager,
In a dream, a vision of the night, when a deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed,
16 dann öffnet er der Menschen Ohr und drückt ihrer Verwarnung das Siegel auf,
Then, uncovereth he the ear of men, and, on their correction, affixeth a seal;
17 von seinem Thun den Menschen abzubringen und den Mann vor Hoffart zu schirmen.
To turn a son of earth from his deed, while yet, pride, from man he concealeth:
18 Er bewahrt seine Seele vor der Grube und sein Leben, daß es nicht durch Geschosse dahinfährt.
He keepeth back his said from the pit, and his life from passing away by a weapon.
19 Auch wird er gezüchtigt durch Schmerz auf seinem Lager; ununterbrochen wütet der Kampf in seinem Gebein.
Or he is chastised with pain, upon his bed, and, the strife of his bones, is unceasing!
20 Dann läßt ihm sein Lebenstrieb das Brot zum Ekel werden, und seine Seele die Lieblingsspeise.
So that his life maketh loathsome [his] food, and his soul, dainty meat;
21 Sein Fleisch schwindet dahin, daß es kein Ansehen mehr hat, unscheinbar wird sein dürres Gebein,
His flesh wasteth away out of sight, and bared are the bones once unseen;
22 so daß seine Seele dem Grabe nahe ist, und sein Leben den Todesengeln.
So doth his soul draw near to the pit, and his life to the inflicters of death:
23 Wenn dann ein Fürsprech-Engel für ihn da ist, einer von den Tausend, dem Menschen seine Pflicht zu verkündigen,
If there hath been near him a messenger who could interpret—one of a thousand, to declare to the son of earth His uprightness,
24 und er sich seiner erbarmt und spricht: “Erlöse ihn und laß ihn nicht in die Grube hinabfahren; ich habe das Lösegeld erhalten” -
Then hath he shewed him favour, and said, Set him free from going down to the pit, I have found a price of redemption!
25 dann strotzt sein Leib von Jugendfrische, er kehrt zurück zu den Tagen seiner Jugendkraft.
His flesh hath been made fresher than a child’s, he hath returned to the days of his youth;
26 Er fleht zu Gott, und der erweist ihm Gnade, läßt ihm sein Antlitz unter Jauchzen schauen und vergilt so dem Menschen sein richtiges Verhalten.
He made supplication unto GOD, who hath accepted him, and he hath beheld his face with a shout of triumph, Thus hath he given back to man his righteousness.
27 Er singt vor den Leuten und spricht: “Ich hatte gesündigt und das Recht verkehrt, doch wurde es mir nicht vergolten.
He sang before men, and said, I sinned, and, uprightness, I perverted, yet he requited me not;
28 Er hat meine Seele erlöst und sie nicht zur Grube hinfahren lassen, und mein Leben erfreut sich am Licht.”
He hath ransomed my soul from passing away into the pit, —and, my life, in the light, shall have vision.
29 Sieh, dies alles thut Gott mit dem Menschen zweimal, dreimal,
Lo! a these things, doth GOD work, two ways, three, with a man;
30 seine Seele der Grube zu entreißen, daß er vom Lichte des Lebens umleuchtet werde.
To bring back his soul from the pit, to enlighten with the light of the living.
31 Merke auf, Hiob, höre mir zu; schweige und laß mich reden!
Mark well, O Job, and hearken to me, Be silent, and, I, will speak:
32 Hast du Worte, so widerlege mich; sprich nur, denn gern gäbe ich dir Recht!
If there is anything to say, reply to me, Speak, for I desire to justify thee;
33 Wo nicht, so höre du mir zu; schweige, damit ich dich Weisheit lehre.
If not, do, thou, hearken unto me, Be silent, that I may teach thee wisdom.
